You don't have to choose between one and the other. You can have both. And I really doubt that many people would "switch", considering they'd have to switch out their game collection too, as well as many titles being exclusive to the PS3.

Yes, sony screwed up but there are too many organizations getting involved in kicking sony while it's down. If this trend continues, and mark my words because it will, this will truely be the beginning for the end of gaming as a major industry and a lifestyle. Here is what will happen next:
When any other gaming company makes a mistake, people will flock to jump on the exaggerated punishment wagon. This will cause developers and other gaming workers to become afraid of their work. This will add to the pre-existing stress of the massive layoffs that happen every year. Working on video games is becoming less of a permanent job with growth opportunitties and developers are being treated more like contracted workers. If you're a developer who doesn't work for the Big 3 or a 3rd party studio that has put out some hits (Insomniac Games and Bioware for example), you're pretty much job hunting at the end of every project.
Game devs will start looking for better job security and will make career changes away from gaming. Companies that either make or just simply fund game development will view the industry as a risky investment where the risk is unbalanced with potential benefits/profits and they will pull out. After that all that will be left is niche pc gaming and apps.
I'm not trying to be a preacher of wrath and doom but there has been a lot of negativity surrounding the gaming industry lately, more so than usual. It used to be that some nut job psychiatrist or some parent group would get flustered and make a small fuss that would be forgotten about a month later. However, now it seems like one thing after another is happening and situations like that tend to steam roll into something worse.
I hope it doesn't come to that

I'm eyeing the exit, but for a different reason. I have to share the PS3 with the family, and as a result, can not play many of the games I want to play. I'm not willing to buy a second one for my room, so I'm either saving up for a gaming PC, or buying a new TV for my room, and a 360.
Anyone who's owned a PS3 for a number of years and is considering seriously selling it off for a 360 is fickle and impatient in my opinion. This just isn't with Sony, I didn't think anyone would take the risk of inputing their credit card information to this online service whether it be PSN, Xbox Live, or whatever simply because things like this can happen to anyone. So my online is down, maybe for the next month or two it doesn't make a difference.
Jump to 360? Maybe if I didn't have any good games to play? Lemme see what I got that I've yet to play at all since I've been non-stop playing Pokemon Black on 3DS. Hmm...

I don't see how anyone can seriously consider leaving Playstation to Xbox 360 just because your offline for a while (Take a Break!). I don't want to have to pay monthly payments no matter how small for a system just to access online ON TOP of monthly Comcast bill payments. The PSN store has movies, music, PS3 games, PS1 classic titles, Wallpapers, themes, Avatars, PS Home, and so much more to keep me entertained. I just bought 2 $50 PSN cards from SafeWay and they are sitting in a nice box on top of my PS3 for the day online comes back online.
Had my PS3 since April 2008 and haven't had a single problem with it. Don't worry they'll regret switching come November 1.

Right so because sony got hacked through no fault of their own, 1/5 users are planning to change to a console thats got 1 good game coming out this year and could have been hacked just as easily if the hackers wanted to target it.

And before anyone accuses me of being a PS3/Sony humper: I have owned every major console since the atari 2600, and my perfered gaming platform is the custom PC I built. The only fanboyism here is to intel cpus and nvidia gpus in PCs.
I'm just upset my neflix won't work on my PS3...and I won a 360, but I'm not about to go crying to them exclusively. I still love Sony's line up. I also like the currently free online.
I think the lawsuits are bullshit. Yes, they should replace any money used by a card that's taken, but paying damages for people who have to cancel cards? Time, effort and cause payments? You should keep an eye on your card anyway. Effort? You look at the page and see it's okay. The ONLY thing I could see is replacement cards, but I doubt those cost that much.
And who the fuck says I have to sue them? I don't want to part of the lawsuit.

ok the only reason im pissed at sony is they pretty much asked for this when they started sueing hackers publicly. now i dont suport these peole at all(i think geohot was right in what he did as i see it as jail breaking)but you dont go out and kick a lion cub and not expect to deal with its much latger parents. now i love my PS3 in fact uncharted 2 is my favoret game but those who currently control the company are fucking up alot.
