One-Fifth of PS3 Owners Are Eyeing the Exit

While I hardly believe this is the death of Sony's involvement in the gaming industry (if they could survive the actual launch of the PS3 and the PSPGo, they can get through anything), I am personally done with them.

I purchased a PS3, I gave it a chance, and it did nothing for me. 90% of my gaming still occurs on the 360, the other 10 goes to PC and 3DS. Don't even get me started on the Wii. I'll be watching Nintendo's introduction of Project Cafe with very cynical eyes.

Because some people don't have $500+ extra to spend on the other two consoles.

I would say that I feel bad for Sony, but it's their own damned fault. I won't say that this couldn't happen to Microsoft, because it could, but they've been dealing with hackers for years upon years now. The chances of them getting hacked this badly are significantly less. Should've had better security.

There is no such thing as perfect security. Or perfect anything for that matter. Deal with your own insecurity issues first.

Its called customers want some assurance of protection, they want to be able to own a system and not worry about identity theft, if a company cannot hold to that then the customers are in the right to walk away, ESPECIALLY after sed company delayed telling people shit got fucked up for a week. Honestly i dont blame the converts one bit

My question is: Why don't people own all three consoles? Some games are just better on PS3, for example.

Ps3: 400?
Wii: 150?
Accessories: 100 (being nice)
5 games: 300
Grand total: 1150
(And this is without DLC, XBL, more games, etc)

Thats alot of cash, its easier to go with one system, and cheaper.

There's really no reason to doubt the truth of the results, but this seems like a tiny sample size. Like...2,000? That's half the size of my old High School. The potential for bias is enormous.

Quite right. As someone who was once a sample manager for a market research firm 2,000 is practically nothing for a serious study. What amazes me though is the percentage of gamers that I talk to, and their opinons, that actually seems to make the studies numbers seem low.
I have one freind that was a die-hard Sony fan, fixes them and everything and he just sees this as totally inexcusable. I guess everything changes when theres a chance that you've lost your identity.

I agree. Let us Xbox/pc players know that we too could have suffered this. We should try to make any converts feel welcome.

But if people swap over to xbox, it will lag like hell and no one will be able to play Stay with ps3. They will come back and there security system better than ever. Holy crap. I just said something nice about sony. Im turning DX Halp!

Except now Microsoft is going to ramp up their security BEFORE they get hacked. At least they should be. Ah fuck, who knows what those crazy kids are up to these days?

Yikes, I'm really hoping that the damage is contained soon enough so that not TOO many people get let go. The last thing the game industry needs is more layoffs. Also for the people saying, "Stupid consumer! Come back! It's not Sony's fault!" I'd like to say that the market runs mostly on 1st impressions and changes in quality/changes that affect consumers personally. PS3 got hacked? Easiest solution is to "trade up" as they see it. Xbox 360 gets hacked? They'll just go somewhere else.

I know I'm gonna cancel my SOE account, I got one to play DCUO, and I wasn't that blown away with the game to the point of justifying the subscription, I felt like CoH was a better game, and was considering switching back. The security breach was a last straw.

I find PC gaming more expensive as well... 300 bucks for a game console, or 700 for a gaming PC... but then again, the 700$ gaming PC does also come with a PC...

Na just kidding, but seriously I not going to pawn off my PS3 just because Sony's PSN got Hacked. Most of my PS3 games are not online multiplayer, and those which are I seldom play online.
Also my PS3 backwards compatible and its how I play my PS1 and PS2 games.
Would you guys drop your Xbox 360s if Microsoft got Hacked and Xbox Live got compromised. How many of us will give up on Half Life if Steam got hacked? Holy shit Nintendo got hacked, time to burn my copy of Pokemon Soul Silver.
