Online Pass Required to Play as Arkham City's Catwoman

This is becoming a trend and it's starting to get annoying. People need to stop faulting Rage since the publisher of that game aren't the only guys cutting out content for second hand purchases. I have a feeling that near the release date of Skyrim we will be seeing an article here that will say "Online pass required to play certain dungeons in Skyrim", I can definitely see that happening. That being said, good thing I am getting Arkahm city new.

This is how this sort of thing should be done if it is to be done at all.

Don't punish players who buy second-hand by locking out half the game, reward the players who buy new with a little something extra.

But it should have revealed with Catwoman, not this long afterwards.

I don't like it based on this fact alone. They should have revealed this at the same time they showed catwoman. I myself am not allowed by my parents to have any console online. so if I had pre-ordered this game based on playing catwoman as well I'd be screwed.
before you ask, my parents don't allow online games because they think it'll give the computer viruses.
Seriously? Damn... Are your parents Luddites or something? It's not actually possible to get a virus from a video game except in one of two scenarios. 1) You download a file with it someone not the developer modified/created (custom maps in games like TF2 are a good example) and 2) the developers want to give you a virus.

The former can be easily avoided by not downloading custom maps, and the latter can't really be avoided at all. Fortunately, any developer who pulls the latter is going to be looking at a class action lawsuit for everything they own, and possibly a couple of organs as well, so it's not very common.

Please. They got paid when the game sold the first time around. Try applying this "Support the developer" logic to other products. Unless you can honestly say you've never bought anything second hand, don't make me laugh.

You know what? I honestly don't care about here. I'm buying this game for Batman, so I don't care about some silly pass. Besides, why play as Catwoman, when you have a 70's-Batman skin waiting for you?

While yes its true i do buy second hand games, its something i try to avoid doing, simply because I do want to support the people who make games and give me endless amounts of entertainment.
This really isnt that big of a deal, they arent cutting out any major parts of the game, its simply an incentive to buy new, and if later people who bought second hand want to have a bit more content, they can just buy it.

Although it does suck for people with a limited access to the internet, and developers should try find alternate ways for such people.

I'll admit this is similar to what Rage did with the sewers, where it doesn't remove a core important part of the game like say the entire freaking multiplayer portion. However, I still think these codes are a dick move in general. They're really annoying to enter with a freaking controller right after I just gave you 60 fucking dollars. I'm really getting the feeling that this may be the last generation of consoles I even buy. Between the indie revolution on PC and the ridiculous Steam sales, and this kind of douchebaggery, consoles are just becoming out of date PCs with worse hardware now...

Well good thing im getting it on the day it's out then ^^

makes no difference to me. Still can't wait <3

EDIT: Wait? £7.99/$12? Oooh no! Boycott the game to death! Daytime robbery! /sarcasm

They could of easily done an Activision and put it to 15 quid -.- sure it's a bum for the offline players but complaining over price etc is a bit stupid.

Here's the problem: Think about it a few years down the line. It's nary impossible to buy a new copy then, in any way that would affect the developer. Get it used, and you'll have to pay even more for what will seem like, to you, cut content. That's not likely to endear one to the developer, or publisher

And most of the money from a new sale goes to the Publisher. You know, some of whom are trying to prevent us from suing them in a class action. Or the ones who put always-online DRM on their PC launch.

And people are still thinking of buying this whorefest?
Yes. Because of Arkham Asylum. Which was one of the most awesome games I have ever played in my entire game riddled life.

How is it a whorefest exactly? And what is that?

This... is unforgivable. they are cutting a portion of the single player game out unless it is bought new? what will be next? "if a used copy of our game is detected on a console, a virus will be downloaded that turns your Xbox into a robot that will proceed to steal your valuables, kill your family, and throw your dog out the nearest window."
ugh.

But what happens?
Does everyone who rents now have to pay for an additional service even after the copy of the game has been bought full price (probably at a slight discount due to bulk buying) but not sold on?

I can't say I'm terribly fond of this, but I must admit this is one of the least dickish anti-used-games things they could have done.

It's a code that only affects single player and to my knowledge is a rather small part of the game as a whole. It reminds me a lot of RAGE and the sewer things it had. It's the same style at any rate.

I'd like it a lot more if publishers stopped being completely retarded and realized that used games are not a problem, but this is definitely an improvement over the other shenanigans they pull.
I'm in agreement with you. While this is certainly undesirable, this is by no means the worst thing that they could have done. I'm not affected by this, of course, I've pre-ordered, but I can understand why some people would be upset at this. I mean, buying the game new well after the release date will still get you the code and all, but if you aren't connected to the internet, then that code is just that, a code written on a little bit of paper. For the record, I've really only seen an "Online Pass" like this done well in multiplayer, kind of like how Bad Company 2 did it. That makes sense, since you'd have to have XBL/PSN to activate it in the first place.

If only there was some way of having single-player locked content be accessible to offline players...

True but is there really any other option to support a developer? Short of donations? Anyway in a few years down the line the price for most games released around now will have dropped significantly, so theyre still getting a much cheaper product. Besides, this Catwoman stuff looks more like bonus content than cut content anyway
