So everybody has used the be responsible argument already, so I'm going to use a different argument. Isn't it funny that the same people that run organizations like this also support the de-regulation of the banking, oil, and food industries. "We don't want the government interfering in our daily lives" they say, then they say shit like this where it's exactly what they're asking for. They'd rather have oil spills, food poisoning, and bad deals disguised as good deals rather than selling violent games to children, which it seems they don't want to be responsible for. So, basically they don't want government interfering in their daily lives except when they want the government interfering in their daily lives. What morons.

People keep bringing up "Parent more" "Lazy parents" "Shit parents" blah blah blah.

If these people are that incompetent to supervise their children when it comes to gaming then surely a law doing it for them is a good idea. That way children are protected even if their parents aren't the ones doing the protecting.

The idea is to protect all children not just the ones with decent parents.
Here's a new Idea for a law-Since a lot of parents are crappy at supervising their children, let's make sure children will never leave the perimeter of their house until they are 18.
How bout them apples.
Someone being denied a video game is a lot different than locking up children. The former is a sensible solution to a problem, the latter an extreme to try and validate your opinion and belittle mine.

This ruling replaces the authority of parents with the economic interests of the videogame industry. With no fear of any consequence for violating the videogame industry's own age restriction guidelines, retailers can now openly, brazenly sell games with unspeakable violence and adult content even to the youngest of children.
...Mr. Winter, are video game companies storming into peoples' homes, knocking down doors, breaking windows, and shoving their games into the arms of young children and threatening the parents who protest? No? Then stop blaming video games and start blaming lazy parenting.

Step 1: Acquire 2(3 recommended) functioning brain cells.
Step 2: Get your ass back from the cafe and watch what your kid is playing!
Step 3: ???
Step 4: Be a good parent.

If the government is going to ban everything that might be bad, why are you (the parents) even there, why don't you send your kids off to live in homes, like orphans...

Is this not the Christian watchdog group that has already gotten into trouble for falsely exaggerating their membership count by keeping members on list that have already died or left the group, and have been accused of opening donations from outside sources and stockpiling those donations for more than just what it was donated for in the first place?

..The PTC is such a fucking, hypocritical joke.

I worked in gamestop couple of years ago here in Finland. At the time when Assassin´s creed 2 was coming up and I wanted to pre-order it. I was under-age so my supervisor didn't let me to order it. I asked "what if my mom buys it?" "well then I will know that it´s for you, so no." I´m an AC fan so I wouldn't take no for an answer.

The next day I asked my mom to come to the shop. She asked why couldn't she buy the game. "I know it´s for your daughter so I can't let you order it, she has to be at least eighteen" "But I am the one buying it", she wondered. "Look, I don't want to take the risk that your child plays the game, goes and murders someone and then you come here complaining how I sold you the game and how it´s my fault."

My mom then replies "she´s my child. She´s my responsibility. I´ve bought violent games to her before and I watch when she plays them and I observe her behavior afterwards. If she kills someone because of the game, it´s my fault and I can´t blame you."

I got to order the game. Now that´s a parent.

wait... so, the court says that you can put as much sex drugs and violence in your game as you want (you're still getting the ESRB rating appropriate to what you put in) and its violating the First Amendment, so you want to stop that?

HUnh... Alright, I know people say kids today are dumb as all fuck, but really, when they have parents like that, its a small wonder.

I know (some) parents dont understand how the ESRB works, and how games sales work, since they're an adult and can be sold anything they want to buy, but really, just send in your child to buy an M rated game, and see what happens.

but eh. Let parents *****. I'm sure when/if we're parents, we'll be the same, so its hypocritical to say this now.

"This ruling replaces the authority of parents with the economic interests of the videogame industry..."
stopped reading after that.
no amount of money diminishes a parents' authority or ability to moderate what their kids are exposed to. if you don't want your precious fucking snowflake tainted by the big bad world, don't enable them. do research. your kid wants "Call of Something?" on their "Gamebox"? research it. make sure that you're okay with your kid being exposed to it. no one's saying that games like GTA are GOOD for children. but they aren't MEANT for children. letting your kid play GTA and complaining when they start talkin about cappin punk ass hos who didn't know they place is like giving your kid an adult dose of asprin and then blaming the pharmacist when they need to go to the hospital; it's your own stupid-ass fault. my parents paid attention to what I played. I didn't get an M game until I was 12 or 13. yeah, that's not the intended age, but my parents looked into it. it was Call of Duty World at War. they knew that it was a WWII game, I had learned about Hitler's atrocities, and I was mature enough to enjoy such a game. America is a country where you are free to decide what is appropriate for your children. if you want a government that regulates every single thing you do, I suggest moving to China. you, your spouse, your one child you are allowed to have, and your bike will all be very happy.... or at least I will be; that's one less whiney idiot in my country.

Well, maybe if a certain parent organization stopped crying about every little thing and got of their asses to actually do some real parenting, this wouldn't be a problem?

Call me radical, but it's just a thought.

Oh, parents association? Glad you could come! Actually, we meant to tell you something.

Parents are present when games are purchased or rented 91 percent of the time. [http://www.theesa.com/facts/index.asp]

that is to say...if kids are seeing things they're not meant to, YOU'RE THE ONES AT FAULT.

The response to the decision by dissenting parties continues to look at the wrong part of the case. The case wasn't really about whether children should play M rated games; it was about whether or not video games were covered under the first amendment, like other medium.

If you read the Court's opinion, they also make some vague allegations that the statute was politically motivated to begin with.

Censorship groups need to focus on the real issues.

This dude I met (who's older than me mind you) thought cynicism was the same as being advantageous, I already know we're in a millennium of idiots (luckily, it's balanced by the people who're actually somewhat intellegent, as in, most people in my circle of friends).

"This ruling replaces the authority of parents with the economic interests of the videogame industry.

I'm sorry but this just seems like an excuse for parents not to be parents and have their decisions made for them by someone else. Maybe they should take the Parents bit out of PTC and replace it with lazy iggnorant ass.

The Parents Television Council, or PTC, has been protecting children from "sex, violence and profanity on television and in other media"
They've been doing a fucking poor job of it.

OT: No clerk is gonna sell an M rated game to a 10 year old, and if they do they wil get their ass fired, also if you care about what games your children are playing maybe you should go to the store with your children and actually do some parenting.

But that seems to be the problem huh? Parents don't want pay attention to their kids so they want rules to be put in place so they don't actually have to do any of the work.
