I found a group of friends who do the party thing right. Nice groups, plenty of food, if they drink, it's to enjoy themselves rather than to just black out - and good discussions are had by all, it's a very pleasant affair. I don't like parties where you can't hear over the music and everyone is totally wasted.

And now I feel like I'm 93 years old.

I find large groups of people highly disconcerting, sexual activity somewhat repulsive and alcohol all out abhorrent... so it's rather odd that I lamented my lack of invitation.
Sounds like me.
Minus the regretting not being invited to parties.
I hate parties
I hate them so much.
I refuse to go to them.
It's just a large group of loud people who are doing things I frown upon.

I was invited to a party like that.. i think i ruined it by bringing aload of my rowdy friends and a bottle of tesco value vodka

I've been to a fair few. They are nothing special. Someones always ruining it by bitching and whining and, if there is alcohol, someone will break something. Nothing great.

I prefer the smaller parties that are with a group of friends.

Th elast party I went to was my friends 18th. it was mainly just a meal down at a nearby pub and then hang around at his house a bit. I ended up playing through the entire halo 3 co-op campaign while I was there.

Errr "Bumming off"? o_O Elaborate
British term, to ass-kiss/follow around and such like.
I'm British. Bumming off is a British term? Perhaps I need to go to more parties....

Actually i'll ask workmates and customers tomorrow if
I've heard it plenty, normally in relation to cigarettes though. ie: "Can I bum a cig off you?"

Also I'd advise against mixing this with other British terms for the word cigarette...

EDIT:

Going off some of these comments I'd say you lot really oughta pick your friends/social groups better.

Hello!

Why am i not at university with you?! In the UK??

I am exactly the same, and for my accomodation application, we had to write an 'about me', and I was like 'I like games. I hate clubbing' and everyone I live with are the exact opposite, so im finding it hard to befriend my housemates :(

Last party I went to, there were lots of crying people. There was only one person who I didn't know, but I was blind drunk and apparently got on with him a lot. I ended up bumming off this girl all night, who is just a friend now and before that night, whilst two friends engaged in almost sexual activities upstairs.

I love parties, by the way.
Haha!

Dude last party i was at i was aparently crying drunk to my friend because he told me unicorns weren't real..

Thats some embarrasing shizz

I used to party when i was like 14-16, im 20 now and rarely go to parties. Haven't been drunk for over 5 years, because when i drink my inner demons come out - yeah i get violent. I don't like that side of my self, so i have 1, maybe 2 beers and thats all - but hey, that means you can drive home :)
I'm kinda shy, and i dislike talking to people i don't really know. But also im quite charming, and i guess likeable. Because people, and especially the ladies, tend to hang out with me, the few times i go out.

I will be starting on a new school with completely new people soon, there i will party and try to talk more to people. But only to get to know the people if they are a bunch of stoners or drunkers i probably wont get along with them anyways.

I enjoy being with people, but as a principal I don't drink alcohol and it can sometimes get a bit weird if I'm the only one not drinking so I rarely attend any parties.

Dearest Escapist; do you party? Do you like parties? What was the last party you went to and what crazy shit happened there?
I'm pretty much in the same boat. I went to a couple frat parties the first couple weeks in University, but I didn't particularly enjoy any of them, so I wound up staying home until people stopped inviting me. The large numbers of people I didn't know combined with my general dislike of intoxicating substances ended up turning me off it.

That said, I tended to get along pretty well with just about everyone through all of uni. I just didn't make any extra effort to socialize.

Parties are great dude. You just gotta go accepting that the music will be terrible and then drink to make it sound better, because honestly, there's nothing worse than being sober at a party. But if you really don't want to drink then fair doo's.

I've only gone to a couple. Just sort of like school with more sexual tension, which is awkward for me. Not to say they were a waste of time.

And it's a shame you missed fresher's week party's, it's meant to be one of the best weeks of a student's life :0
To be honest, dude: I never had any intention of doing any of that kinda stuff in Fresh-Meat Week... Having monitored this thread, I'm gonna make a concerted effort to attend some of these "Box Socials" or whatever later in the term, but Fresh Fest...? Nah... I got my first major project on the second day and my second major project on the third day; both of which to have research evidence for the fourth day and considerable work completion for the start of the second week... Even if I wanted to inebriate myself at ridiculous hours of the night, I still wouldn't have. There's work to be done!!

i like to go on partys, but if you don't like alcohol and girls and big groups of people, stay at home. that's your decision.
I likes the ladies... it's just easier to get to know them on a more personal level without the perpetual insurgence of "alpha males", fuelled by alcohol and dance music and with a single minded intention, attempting to hi-jack the conversation. I kid, I kid, hahaha.
yeah, at that point you're right. i agree that it's nicer to find the girl of your dreams ... hm ... for example at the train station or whereever.

Parties, you go, you get drunk, you potentially "get some", and you wake up in the kitchen or behind a couch.

There's not much to em', and sometimes they can be annoying, but a good party is always appreciated.
