Oh, just remembered. We where first to reach the north-pole AND the south-pole. And apperantly America too. Vikings and shit.
Oh, and Edvard Munch and Edvard Grieg and Funcom :p
And all our traditions. Will not mention all of them.
And the nature, and our flag, and our natonal anthems :D
And 17. of may!!! ^^
Ahem... actually it was us Icelanders that were the first Europeans to reach America.
Iceland was once part of Norway.
You are our children. We love you <3
We were never a part of Norway we were two nations under one king. Besides long before that happened we had discovered America and also we had a habit of killing your royalties.

*Facepalm* Yes you where. Before becoming an independent country.
The first people to travel to Iceland where vikings from Norway.
Then after a while some of them decided to stay, and Iceland was born!
Well, apperantly some Irish monks came first, but they left again.

Dont know about that killing royalties thing. Or why you brought it up.

The people coming from Norway were Chiefs that were leaving Norway because of the king (can't remember his name) that was uniting Norway. The chiefs that left Norway never acknowledged him as their king so when in the new country they were independent from him ergo not part of Norway.

Also the killing part: Patriotism.

I'm proud of being Irish. We gave the world some of the greatest writers in history and gave the gaming world Havok.
yes while thats true we are also responsible for Bono so maybe it balances out our greatness.
Bono doesn't exist. He's a concept devised in part by Americans and UNICEF to annoy the people of the world.

Not really proud of being Finnish or English, as i'm not sure i'm either one. One of the bad points of having your military dad drag the family all across Europe.

That is a remarkably good counter arguement.

i like america.

I'm glad im not european, as your birthrates are so low that in 100 years the cultures will be essentially displaced by immigrating (and rapidly reproducing) folks from muslim societies. The germans have realized they'll be an islamic republic by the 2050s.

America isn't much better, we have about 2.11 children per couple, which is the bare minimum for sustaining a culture. NEED MORE IMMIGRATION HERE PEOPLE, LATINOS, COME ONE, COME ALL!
How do you work that one out, in England we have some of the highest teenage pregnancy rates in the world. My whole generation seems to have an aversion to Condoms and as such we are awash in Chavs who are breeding like rabbits, hell we could do with some population reduction, we are only a small island we should not have 6million+ people.

But for the topic at hand I am proud to be English/Irish because we have always produced the finest poets, writers and soldiers, managed to take over almost a quarter of the world and invented the police, all this from a tiny island. Though we did give the world Big brother and Katie Price which is not something to admire.

Being proud of your country for it's citizens achievements is like claiming your soccer team's match as personal victory. I like Canada because of the freedom it provides me, the somewhat subsidized post-secondary education, and free health care. Downside is, it's fucking cold half the year.

Do I think Canada's the best country in the world and we have a mandate by god to rule over other nations? No. Am I proud to be Canadian? I don't see how it's a matter of pride. I was born here. Should I be proud of my country if I were born anywhere else? Canada's a fine country, and I think I'll stay here for a while - but I don't think it or its people are inherently better than the world outside its borders.

Patriotism is a flawed idea no matter how you slice it. Why should anyone be proud of the landmass on which they were born? You don't have any control over something like that.

It's a round world last time I checked and our problems are going to continue on for a long time unless we stop thinking in maps.

In my opinion patriotism is just a glorified term for nationalism. There are some aspects of The Netherlands I like (like the wealth, liberalism or social system) but also plenty I absolutely am not proud of (basically its whole imperialist past).

I really hate it when people see their country, philosofy or culture as superior to everything else and people calling themselves 'patriots' usually do that.

That's not even an opinion to me, it's the truth and I completely agree. There is no reason to be proud of a flag or proud of history that you were not present for, or proud "to be" from the country you are from.

I'm not proud to be an American at all. The rest of the world is swirling in a mix of horror, disgust and rage at the thought of our country and I honestly can't blame them.

Why are you proud to be whatever nationality you are?
Personally I'm proud to be British because of some of the great people this country has made, like William Shakespeare, Isaac Newton, Richard the Lionheart and Winston Churchill.
I'm not proud. I didn't choose my nationality so it means nothing to me. Just as my skin color means nothing, my sex means nothing, and my sexual orientation means nothing.

I'm proud to be American because of the U.S. constitution. It really is one of the wisest, most egalitarian documents upon which a nation has ever been built.

Especially the 1st and 2nd amendments.
