Eh, I tend to wait almost a full ten years before upgrading. There's no sense in changing anything until the need for new components is absolutely drastic. Drastic as in "I can't play most of the releases from two years ago" drastic.

Before that, you're basically paying for an extra GT or an X in front of a number you already have, or for pretty abstract concepts that barely impact the visual quality. I remember buying my first vid card about fourteen years ago...

"Lookit this one! Nvidia GeForce Something-Something GT! It's got THIRTY PIPELINES!"

Me: "Uh, sure. What the fuck is a pipeline in relation to a GPU?"

Vendor: "WHO THE FUCK CARES, MOAR PIPELINES!"

I'm just surprised 2/3 of the top cards are still advertised as high-performance even though they're below 60fps average, seems kind of strange. I guess it's only a fool who plays any Crysis game on Max settings.

when i had to completely rebuild my gaming rig last summer because my old one died i was actually really disappointed when everything was running when i turned it on for the first time.

Even more tragic is that those people rarely know what they bought, how to asseble or properly use it. Maybe I'm just jealous that I don't have money to throw away on new elitistic bullcrap every month.
