I'm the polar opposite. I've got an old laptop that can't run The Force Unleashed properly b-cuz (according to my nephew who 'knows everything about that stuff') my computer doesn't even have a graphics card (or something). I figure by the time I upgrade it my system won't be compatible with anything available (or something).

I miss Atari.

I still use a GTX 470, and for the most part its given me very little issue. The most recent title I own is Borderlands 2, which while showing some strain here and there, holds up pretty well. I imagine that trend won't continue, as games these days always manage to somehow gradually increase in hardware demand with time, regardless of how the game actually looks..

planning? sales pitch? construction? I don't need this, I bring a game box, look at the requirements and choose a computer that's better than that. I'm a console gamer at heart and I'm not going to waste time getting advice from someone trying to sell me something, just tell me where the things are.

also, my brother got put on a $4000 plan for a $2000 laptop when he already had $2000 in cash, but those crazy salesmen weren't gonna let it be so simple.

I may not be the smartest guy around, but at least I don't fall for things like that. I usually use my stuff for many years or until it breaks. When I got a new storage card for my compact digicam, the clerk was really surprised to see a working model as ancient as that. But it's good! Strong like a brick and as heavy as one. My current notebook is several years old and I'm fine with that. To be fair, it really helps that I'm into nostalgic and indie games rather than the new, more hardware-intensive stuff. I think there's even an xkcd-comic for that...
