I may not be the smartest guy around, but at least I don't fall for things like that. I usually use my stuff for many years or until it breaks. When I got a new storage card for my compact digicam, the clerk was really surprised to see a working model as ancient as that. But it's good! Strong like a brick and as heavy as one. My current notebook is several years old and I'm fine with that. To be fair, it really helps that I'm into nostalgic and indie games rather than the new, more hardware-intensive stuff. I think there's even an xkcd-comic for that...

I can relate to that feeling of having to buy the newest and shiniest, though to be truthful it turns more into a game of gauging components than a prebuilt computer vs another one. I don't think I'd even consider buying a prebuilt machine unless I was really low on time and didn't have a weekend open to build a new PC.

I'd really like to upgrade to a radeon 7970 from my radeon 6950, though. Skyrim with high rez textures must run at 60 fps damn it!

I know your pain! I'm on a Radeon 6850... I NEED My 7000 SERIES CARD!!! Maybe next year after tax returns.... if I cna get a job...

Doesn't bother me at all. At first I thought it was a bit weird since Erin is designed to look kind of goof rather than conventionally attractive, but looking at the annals (hah) of Rule 34, I don't think that matters to anyone.

Comic itself is not all that funny because it holds no real relevance to how often PC gamers actually upgrade...and the fact that most of us consult benchmarks before we shop so we don't have to ask retarded questions like "IS IT FASTER?". I don't think I've heard any self-respecting PC gamer ask that question actually, not since the invention of Google.

But the facial expressions are HILARIOUS (especially the talk-dirty-to-me face and the last one), so I'll give this one a pass based purely on that

Pretty ballsy taking the piss on this subject around these parts. It made me laugh though, so good job.

I tend to wait to upgrade til I really need to or when a really good deal pops up and I notice it. I'd rather upgrade two or three things at once than bother stringing it out over a period of time. Also, I don't PC game that much anyways. Lots of games I probably could play on my PC I still play on console for whatever reason. I suspect this will change when the new consoles come out and I don't run to by them immediately.

This isn't really me, I guess. Maybe it's the really really hardcore PC gamers? I've been doing just fine with the video card I've bought a couple years ago, and there really isn't any reason to upgrade until components break or I can't run anything anymore.

I am however thinking about getting a SSD since most of my hard drives died on me suddenly. It got me thinking that I should get one so there's a less likely chance of my computer dying on me at a critical moment. However, because I'm poor, I'm probably not gonna be able to get one until the next Black Friday. =(

Turbines in there eh? If it breaks before the new model comes out my old man can fix it. It'll only cost you 250 dollars and hour for his time than 100-150 for the millwrights under him, there may be several. All in all along with tooling, parts, hotels, meals, transportation, consulting fees, air fare, taxes and any other fees and unpredictability's. It should be about 1-2 million dollars.
