They're putting their names down and showing support.

Whether it's a petition or not (you can class it as a petition against the pirates) is irrelevant.

I won't pirate it, but I'm not planning on buying it either. Crytek has done perilously little to prove to me this isn't another consolized shooter.

All the gameplay elements of the first, with a stronger focus on narrative and a prettier PC version - what more do you want, exactly?

They've not stripped anything out.
How is it irrelevant? I was just saying it's stupid to call this a petition because it's not a petition, I didn't say that influenced whether I think it's a good idea to do this or not. What exactly is my post irrelevant to? It's not like at the front of this thread it was stated we can only talk about whether we support this or not. I just thought I'd point out that this isn't a petition.

Petition ?noun
1.
a formally drawn request, often bearing the names of a number of those making the request, that is addressed to a person or group of persons in authority or power, soliciting some favor, right, mercy, or other benefit: a petition for clemency; a petition for the repeal of an unfair law.
2.
a request made for something desired, especially a respectful or humble request, as to a superior or to one of those in authority; a supplication or prayer: a petition for aid; a petition to god for courage and strength.
3.
something that is sought by request or entreaty: to receive one's full petition.
This isn't a request, it's a pledge not a petition.

Whether my post is stupid or not is up to you, but it's not irrelevant, it's about the article after all.
I said whether it's a petition or not is irrelevant, not your post, fucking hell.

Petition sites are just the easiest way to do this, and you could argue that they're petitioning against the pirating of the game anyway - even if that's not what's written in the pledge.
You do realize my entire post was pointing out that this wasn't a petition right? Meaning you are saying my post wasn't irrelevant, but the entirety of the content in it was......how is that supposed to work?

I thought the group making this petition was calling it a petition? If not then I guess it really isn't relevant, but if they just called it a pledge, The Escapist probably shouldn't have called it a petition like 15 times.

Oh, and chill out man, "fucking hell"? Let's relax here, I didn't mean any hostility or condescension in my post, though you probably thought I did considering 90% of the posts on the site are saturated with it.

Ok who is not adding up one and one?!

True the PC is the platform of choice for pirates, because it is easy. But it never means that console games are not pirated and ran on PCs. Thus making console exclusives will not lessen piracy. That is utter nonsense.

What's even better is that this is a leaked version! Each and every game that is made for a console nowadays has a PC version, even if it is a console exclusive. That is what the DEVELOPERS use. It is just too expensive and time consuming to have console dev kits for each and every developer. Why the hell is everybody blaming PC gamers in this special case?!

Maybe someone read http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/32761/Opinion_Game_Developers_Should_Love_Their_Pirates.php and though hey, here is a marketing idea... (Too bad that the post was after the leak.)

Finally, I definitely will not pay 60 Eur for this game, it's not worth it. Maybe when I get a decent discounted version, I can wait, sorry CryTek.

If they had changed the 'petition' to: ''I won't pirate Crysis 2'' instead of ''I will buy the full game'' I would've signed it.

Well I haven't pirated it... my friend has and I got it off of him!

As far as I see it this is just a demo:
If I like it, I want a rendered floor.
If I don't like it then, I tried it, no money wasted... and I'll take it off of my computer.

I refer to extra credits comments about having a demo :p

I tried to sign it but for one, they've hidden the "sign petition" button and two, their Captcha box doesn't display right and trying to open the audio file crashes my browser. It probably would have gotten more signatures if you could just sign it with your facebook profile.

I actually see this beta spreading as a good thing for Crysis 2 - no different than a demo, a hype machine, and - if Crytek chooses to go this route - it could genuinely use it for more advanced bug-testing on thousands of unique machines, like what no FPS released in the past few years have EVER done. If Crytek said, "hey, pirates - give us a comprehensive list of your bugs, problems, and PC makeup," they could polish their finished product based on these recommendations.

That it got out is a terrible, terrible tragedy - that it's being spread around in beta is good, I would assume. And how many people who enjoyed the beta wouldn't buy the finished product based on their enjoyability of that? I know I would.

I also want to point out the hypocrisy of some PC gamers. Cracking open an insanely complex DRM scheme for a released, US$60 game is considered a moral victory - but spreading around an incomplete beta of an unreleased game is considered damaging to the system? Sorry, you can't justify morality in such a blind, two-faced manner.

Part of me wonders... you can leak a build of nearly the entire game but the PC beta is still "coming soon". What's going on over there in Germany?

I thinking that myself.

Anyways, it'd be kickass if Crytek released a completely different multiplayer just to fuck with the pirates.

This is a nice step in the right direction. A lot of the bad treatment PC gamers have been getting lately does relate to the fact that so many people play pirated versions of games on computers (much more than consoles anyways). I don't condemn pirating, but the more it happens, the less publishers will look on us (pc gamers) favorably, and that just blows.

I wish I could sign this petition, but even before this "leak" Crytek seems to have stopped caring as much about its pc fanbase. Crysis 2 is not on my top priority list. I might buy it in 6 months if it goes on sale on Steam or something.

I'd love to sign this if only in support of PC gaming as a whole. However, I got a chance to play the leaked version at a friend's place for about an hour, and I can honestly say that if this is the product quality we can expect to see from Crytek from now on, I don't care if they stop developing for the PC.

It's terrible when compared to the first Crysis. Nothing added, several things removed. And the level design is incredibly linear...narrow pathway after narrow pathway. Just another FPS fallen prey to consolization.
Yes we know about "creative constrains" but they said it's a very small things that can't be done, so , yeah , it's not what you call perfect , but at least the best the industry can offer now , ... wait til doom4 is out.
