People who always use the same tactic. I knew this one guy in Crysis MP who always bought the VTOL as soon as he could and then went spawncamping. I mean, you could try something new now and then.

Cheaters.

This isn't what sniping is about. Sniper rifles should do less damage than a normal weapon, and provide only one hit kills with the good old headshot because thats what sniping is all about.
You've obviously never been in the military, don't own a radio, really hate magazines, skipped school, or have never seen the history channel. Sniper rifles are high caliber long distance rifles. You dont get longer distance by using weaker bullets. I'm not going to get into a physics lesson with you but headshots aren't what snipers are about. They're about killing people in one shot, usually through shock, blood loss or both, using a high caliber round that can maintain its kinetic energy across several miles. Heck, most battle-rifles were designed to kill in one or two good hits.

That said, I cant stand when a game takes leaps and bounds out of realism for the sake of game balance. The 5 round rocket launcher kills people to quickly? "Smart idea, lets nerf the rocket launcher! Lets make it terribly inaccurate and reduce it's damage." How about you leave the accuracy and damage alone, make it a one shot high explosive rocket propelled grenade that takes forever to reload instead, like, oh I dont know, A REAL ONE.

50 caliber rifles, while not inteaded for use on people, should not take 2 hits to kill someone in a video game. They are used to take out lightly armored vehicles, and material like explosives and computer servers hence the name Anti-Material Rifle. Their use in a video game primarily for shooting other people does break the mechanic a bit though. This actually reminds me of something else that bothers me with games too. Long range weapons typically get rediculously inaccurate when shoulder fired. Why are my bullets leaving the gun barrel at a 70 degree angle?! And really, how hard is it to avoid a bad sniper? Got a problem with the kind of snipers that stay in one spot and repeatedly give away their position every time they pull a trigger? Try not running into their bullet path. Try throwing a grenade. Try doing something other than running straight at him or ignoring the fact that he's around and headlonging it wherever you're trying to go and put some stealth to good use eh?

People dont bother me, poor game design does.
...

Oh yeah, I almost forgot = people who are willing to sacrifice balance for realism.

People who take things said in text/voice chat waaaaaay too seriously. Just yesterday, I made a joke some guy who made like, 8 typos in one sentance, to which he replied that he was dyslexic (fine) but then whenever I tried to talk with him he told me to go die in a fire.

My least favourite type of players in any multi-player game are AFK-ers. Stepping away from the keyboard for a moment is fine - everyone needs to do it. Give a quick heads up to the people in your team and no worries. What really pisses me off are the people who go AFK without mentioning a thing, and don't come back. They just sit there, taking up a valuable place that another person who wants to play can't use because they've decided instead of a sceensaver they want to use a game. Grrrrrrr.
AFK-ers however, make for easy kills. :)

People hate playing me in COD4 because I take full advantage of the Overkill perk, usually carrying the Barrett .50 Cal and a P90 so I can get in long range kills and close range if I absolutely need to, more often than not I have to turn off my headset to keep from hearing all the cursing. And it's even worse while playing a local multiplayer match, but that's neither here nor there.

People who vocally refuse to help their team, and instead decide to go "lone wolf" and fail miserably, then claim that it was because their team didn't help.
People who switch teams repeatedly whenever the teams they're on is losing.
And as for specific people, there was one person in the Viper clan on Starsiege: Tribes that led me to refuse to play the game for months, I hated him so much, for various and sundry reasons.

I don't like the kids because the think they are cool because they get to play with the Big Boys on M rated games because their Mommy couldn't listen to them whine any longer in the store and still votes that video games need to be censored. Once i was playing a relatively "dead" console fps ("Shadow Run" I like the teleport mechanics... alot... I WANT TELEPORT!!!) and was playing online when a bunch of sqeeky little voices came over the mike. I tried not to say anything.. but lost it when one of the squeekest voices i've heared online said some thing like

"..yeah... sound older then i am... How old do you think i am" i couldn't help but think 'Oh MY *%T*(#$(#)%)()#*$ YOUR $%@(ING TWELVE GO AWAY' when he contines "yeah... i'm actually 13."

WHHHAAAT YOU ACTUALLY SOUND YOUNGER THEN YOU ARE, YOU SUCK, AND YOU NEED TO GO AWAY!!! *&$%ING PEOPLE.... i can't remember what i actually said but i went off on the kids.. they didn't care because i couldn't hurt them.. but if i could....

I personaly hate little children that are playing 18+ games & suck at them but dont realize how much they suck. oh and I don't hate snipers. I find they're the easiest class to kill in almost any game. Sure they can get annoying, but the reality is they're not that bad. They can get caught off gaurd so easily (via knife or melee). but everyone has their opinion.

Kids. I hate them enough in real life but the ones who play online are exponentially worse. They have whiny voices, are quick to fire off insults and swear and shouldn't even be playing MA15 games. Would you children kindly fuck right off? I don't want to hear what your intentions are regarding my mother, so please, go play Boggle or something...
*Sigh*
I can't do this anymore, I just can't do this
*Takes off coat and leaves*

I hate Child-haters, I'm 13, and I understand that most kids my age are cocky bastards who are quick to insult you, but his is really just starting to piss me off.

Also, I hate Noob-Tubers in COD4, you think your safe and then you get blown up just like that.

I hate snipers too.
I personally don't find games where you have to kill eachother from afar to be that fun really.

However those I like worst will have to be the annoying ones that talk on the microphone all the time.
The high pitched thirteen year old, the unintelligible chatter, the commando guy yelling orders at everyone, the fucktard playing/singing shitty music, the internet tough guy, the clanfags etc.

I'd rather have microphones having age limits than games.

I wasn't making an attack on you, or not trying to, but I'd like to know how people can sacrifice balance for realism when that's the game maker's decision. You obviously meant me.

Excellent game design doesn't mean wonky weapons systems. I'm getting the impression you'd appreciate a weapon like a sniper rifle that does less damage than a battle rifle in Latest First Person Shooter X? I don't understand how that'd work for balance. Everyone would use the typical battle rifle in a game since it does more damage at almost the same range.

Sniper rifles typically have less shots, bigger bullets mean less rounds in the magazine in real life, and this transfers to games. A high powered rifle almost always has monster recoil, that itself discourages unloading the thing like a machine gun. Real life tends to balance itself out. A 50 caliber rifle wasn't invented to be fair. A rocket wasn't invented to be fair, but there are natural limitations to these weapons game designers tend to ignore when making their games and that makes for a flawed experience. The human mind operates greatly off of real-life assumptions. When games lend to that reasonsing, they play better. People generally have their intelligence insulted when they assume a weapon is going to do something a certain way and then it turns out not to.

Most high speed collisions to the head kill. 30 foot drops break legs. A well placed rocket can blow up a tank, and so on. Unlike the 5 shot rocket launchers that dont kill anything typical of Doom style games, or any gun in Halo 3 where most of the time you have to unload a whole magazine into someone's face in hopes of a slim chance it might kill them. (I'm looking at you Mr. Assault Rifle.) These blatantly retarded weapons come from a tight grip on game balance. Take our buddy Call of Duty 4. How does it balance game play? Sure the 50 cal in that game isn't a one hit kill 100% of the time, but then, with proper medical treatment, most bullet wounds aren't. It's a huge weapon, with moderate recoil in real life and they've transfered some of that into the game. It's not something you can hip fire accurately and the bullet doesn't always land on its mark when you aim down the sights. It's only got so many shots and reloading it in a time of crisis is going to get you killed. it's a long range sniper rifle that tends to kill you in one hit to the torso or head, and why shouldn't it? The SMGs can kill a man in 3 or 4 hits, the only reason they aren't murder hoses is because someone up in Activision had it in their head that in real life, 95% of all shots miss.

Now you get a game like quake or some other game that explores fictional weaponry where every bullet ever fired hits and suddenly there's a problem. Lets raise the health, ok but now certain weapons dont run the way they're supposed to. Lets tweak damage. Ok that's awesome but now weapon-x is pathetic! Fine we'll put shields on everyone, that should tone down the rape-kill of a few of those weapons. But now people survive explosions! It creates a painful cycle of constant patching and modifying that I can do without. I dont like having my assumptions of how a game works changing on me every time there's a mass of complaints that someone found a way to make a weapon kill someone.

(Also for the record I go for the SMG or knife in most first person shooters, sniping in CoD4 doesn't do it for me.)

1. People who don't work together.
I stopped playing Battlefield: Bad Company for that reason. When everyone is sitting by the helicopter's spawn, or sitting way back sniping, then it's hard to be the only guy trying to push forward.

2. People who use the 'random grenade' tactic.
I mostly see this in CoD4. I get blown up randomly and watch the kill cam showing some guy throwing a grenade, after grenade until the camera follows the 2nd or 3 one which just happens to bounce off the top of a wall, in a window, and blow up at my feet as I JUST get into range of the blast. That's bull.

3. One trick ponies.
You know the one. The guy who gets into his 'sniper spot' or his 'hiding place' and owns when he's there. But when you knock him out of it, you know that YOU can just wait and he'll keep coming back to try to get the same spot over...and over...and over...and over. If you can't get kills doing anything else, you need more practice.

4. People who talk smack before a game even begins, and before you say anything.
I log onto CoD4, get in a room, say 'Hey everyone' or they just notice my gamertag (Baby Tea) and immediately attempt to be funny to the other 14 year olds in the room who haven't realized that calling people and things 'gay' makes you sound like an inbred kid with fetal alcohol syndrome (No offense to anyone with that terrible sickness). I try to ignore them like I'm sure their parents do, but its still so very annoying.

I fully agree. I hate those people who think their god's gift to gameing and then when the team loses the blame goes fully on everyone else but not them.

Also, there is a difference between sniping and camping, but the difference is only really noticeable on large maps. Snipers will stay relatively still and seek distant locations with a good view of the action. Campers will use automatic weapons (most of the time) and seek locations close to the combat where they can hide and spray any passerby with bullets.
Thanks for clearing that up.

People who follow me about giving away my position, my entire game is sneaking about and hohoho'ing as I land a melee/close kill shotgun or something.

Also people on those wonderful online co-op games who persist on trying to kill you.

And the basic people who scream "omg j00 R haxor!" "map haxor" or my favourite "omg lag".
Although, I often shout lag and have to reconnect my silly slow internet connection. But I get disconnected everytime it lags...

People who are obviously skilled at the game but refuse to play on a team with "lesser" players (thanks a lot, Halo 3 ranking system). Example being that in a 2-man team match (with 4 teams) my teammate refused to actually play, instead usually taking potshots at me and hiding where he didn't have to be shot at or do much of anything. As I kept getting mowed down because there's only so much one person can do, he kept laughing over the chat and saying "you aren't that good at this game". Well no, I'm not that good at this TEAM game when my TEAMmate is a dildo-for-brains who doesn't actually want to play and probably gets some perverse joy out of watching a not-as-experienced player get shot at a lot.

Any player duo (or more) who are obviously friends to the point that they will teamkill just to make sure they can ride the mongoose together (if it's Halo 3 of course). You can make your own joke from that one.

I thought I had something funny, and I forgot it. Next time you see those people its best to let a plasma grenade 'accidentally' stick the mongoose or someone riding it. It's best to have an excuse if they get angry.
