If you ever watched the documentary "We don't have sex, we're Japanese!", that's honestly what it boils down too for men at least. It's on youtube check it out. It tells a great important image why men and woman don't want to be in relationships in Japan. I'm not making this stuff up.

Actually, it's very common for Japanese women to say "no" during sex as a turn-on. It's equivalent to saying "oh yes!" or "Oh my god!" while having sex in Englis. I just found it funny that what was being said, while not literally meaning "no" and more akin to refusing to have sex, is the exact opposite of the situation.

That being said, it's not as much Japanese not wanting women who will not refuse them but rather that in Japan the cost of maintaining a relationship is too high for a lot of people. Couple that with a thriving sim date, red district, semi-legal semi-prostitution, maid cafes, host clubs, titty-grope cabares and other forms of VERY popular sexual escapism (they even have "pay to take a walk with a cute girl" services) and sublimation and you end up with a result of "2d" (this means fictional, not actually 2D) characters seem preferable to going through the pains of making enough money to be able to fund a relationship, then going out and braving the world of dating when you don't really enjoy it and rather simply play games and watch anime.


Basically, it's like a substitute that while obviously not as good as the real thing, the side-benefits and convenience that come with giving up on real women offset the loss for an actually sizable number of folks. No risk of being dumped, rejected, being cheated upon, being given an STD, being sued for paternity fees, having to pay the $10.000-$30.000 wedding bill and so on.

Well although it makes me feel a bit uncomfortable I don't see any harm in it, video game fantasies are not real and most gamers take pleasure from what would be horrific and inhumane actions in real life. I mean I just spent four hours electrocuting and then burning screaming pixel people to death as an Engineer in Mass Effect 3, if someone enjoys peeping at pixel schoolgirls and like most[footnote]I say most but I mean 99.9% of people, there have been occasions where sickos have been "inspired" by a peice of media or entertainment but those are few and far between[/footnote] people its a video game fantasy that stays there thats up to them.

Firstly, the condition that means you are attracted to pubescent but under the legal age is actually super super common. Mainly because its the natural state of human biology to be attracted to that age group.

Just for reference, I am not in anyway condoned having sex with a minor, nor am I arguing it should be legal by any means, as biology or not, their not mature enough to deal with it. I'm just stating the fact that the mind considers any person whos significantly into puberty an adult, and therefore attractive. Its still not a good thing.

If that premise is true and its a matter of biology it might not be a good thing but its not a bad thing or an evil thing its just a thing, we are sentient and self aware enough to understand that while the body and hormones and everything else might be all for it we (should) know better that the right thing to do is never to act on impulses like that.

We all have impulses to do things that are wrong that just come to us, like have you ever wanted to smack your boss? Or fling that annoying phone with the buggy app across the room? People are generally civilised enough to ignore and not act out on these things, if biology really does predispose some people in the way you suggest as long as they never act on it there is no harm done.

I think you're blowing it way out of proportion. Japan has a fertility rate the same as Greece and only just short of both Australia and the U.S. Parts of Korea actually have lower rates than Japan.

He's just saying that they won't say no because of the implication.

Just want to point out that a fertility rate of 1.4 is drastically different than a fertility rate of 1.9. If my math is correct, a fertility rate of 1.4 means that within 2 lifetimes, the population could reduce by approximately 50% (assuming fertility rate remains constant throughout). In contrast, a fertility rate of 1.9 would take about 12 lifetimes to reduce by 50%. I guess we can assume the average lifetime is 80 years (not sure about this). I'm also not taking into account potential growth from immigration.

I do know that several Asian countries with a fertility rate of 1.3 - 1.4 consider that pretty bad as it results in a weaker economy and increases the burden on the young to support the elderly. Singaporean and Japanese governments have taken steps to increase the fertility rate either by grants and national awareness. I am not aware of Greece's stance on this.

Its truth that porn is a driving force beneath the spread of all media, going back as far as we've had any kind of media at all. Ancient Rome and Greece had a taste for it (in jest or not), which is why over so many years, the self righteous catholic church made a thing of seeking out, destroying/defacing and removing anything that was ancient and perceived pornographic. The Vatican has the largest collection of old porn anywhere, because it would make public eyes bleed, apparently. No matter how it may be perceived, that's a lot of culture they are holding hostage.

Anyway, this demo while a bit 'on the j-perv side', is the only one to I've seen to show any kind of character interactivity beyond the usual Star Citizen and Valkyrie space ship demos we've seen. I'd like to imagine what could be done with some good writing and a better scenario, characters and world. Makes me really excited to imagine what the likes of Bioware or Telltale could do with this tech.

As for japan's dwindling population and messy work culture, this stuff could be solved by japan using immigration to fill the falling birth rate. Trouble is they are so in fear of losing their cultural identity (definitely a misplaced fear, IMO, as Hong Kong, Hawaii, Singapore are examples that you can integrate with other people, and still keep your culture and ways), that its as if they'd rather all die out, than let foreigners pick up their slack. I think its been a government led agenda to keep foreigners at bay, because they lost in WWII. A pity, because it may yet bury them as a nation, if they don't swallow some of that pride and wise up.

OT: Well duh. Anybody expected Japanese game developers not to make something like this the moment they got their hands on a VR system? Ogling girls sells like hotcakes in Japan, just look at current anime. Sure, so it does in the West, but we tend to be a bit more discreet.

But yeah, to see Sony show it off at a prominent games con... They must wanna sell the PS4 in Japan pretty bad.

If that is indeed what is the main cultural motivator for their perceived xenophobia (losing their identity), then maybe they should keep to their own, and fix their own problems. Getting past such a devastating loss as in WWII can't be easy, image- wise. The two bombs seemed very... final. Kinda like if you got into a fight on the playground, and the other kid fractured your skull by repeatedly kicking you in the face, and all the other kids agreed that it was the best thing to do, would you want to let any of them in your yard after that?

By the way, I am in no way intending to paint Japan as an innocent party, just thinking about how they might see the world stage.

I think it's best to keep in mind that there is no proof that they will collapse in on themselves- a low birth rate doesn't necessarily mean that the country is doomed.

Agreed. I have no idea what it is, but it's something I love. I like the standard "western" schoolgirl outfit too, (plaid skirt, white shirt) but it's got nothing on the Japanese Sailor suit, it instantly makes any girl wearing it 10x hotter. Which is wierd, considering the gilrs depicted in it are not the sort I'm into otherwise. If someone could get Hitomi Tanaka to wear one, I could die a happy man.

Also, to note your asking about trying sone anime, I don't watch a lot, but I can whole heartedly reccomend "Trigun", it's short, coming in at 24 episodes, so no million episode "when WILL THIS END?!" malarky, it's well paced, so no 30 minute episodes spanning 5 minutes of actual time, the English dub is pretty good, it's got a wicked soundtrack and animation too.

It's depressing because as a species we should be I don't know, more evolved? yeah human beings are naturally drawn to sex and violence, its in our nature, but you'd think by now it wouldn't quite as easily be such a huge draw and such a deciding factor in so many things. I think entertainment and creativity in general would benefit greatly from moving a little further away from having to overtly pander so often.

The creation of art and media is driven by our desires, why would we create stuff we're not passionate about? Different artists have different styles, some are more subtle while some pander (sorry if I sound like i'm being patronizing).

I get where you're coming from but it kind of sounds similar to the idea that critics should be 100% objective/non-bias in their reveiws, you're never going to do it and why would you want to, that sounds beyond boring to me.

Not to mention we are talking about virtual porn here, all that is is pandering.
