Put it this way: it does all the right things... but in the wrong way. That's probably why it has a lot of attention.CharrHearted said:Another FC 3 post, i've been wondering, is the game THAT good? Shark hunting with grenades and tiger hunting with assault rifles, that brings back memories.
It's got loot collecting, but instead of a few valuable items your loot sack is constantly overflowing with cheap tat. Of and you can't temporarily drop an item to pick one up to craft and then pick up again. It's got crafting, but it's in the most shallow and trivial way, it's mostly automatic. Basically, you'd think they'd just have a grid where you can see all your loot to sort and craft from there, no, you've got a list that is auto-sorted in order-of-sale. The "loot" is transparently nothing but deferred cash.
It's a game all about shooting with really unsatisfying shooting mechanics and such repetitive enemies, It feels like I'm playing airsoft in the jungle. And the bow is not fun to use. And the weapons, you don't find nor earn any of them, all you do is buy them. No crafting for weapons nor accessories.
And it's got what on paper is a nice plot, but it's so stilted and melodramatic, the big problem is the game seems to assume you care about characters simply because banal exposition reveals they were loved ones of the protagonist... but I've literally never met them before. Half the cutscenes I feel like I've walked on a complete stranger's funeral and everyone there assumes I'm the sibling of the deceased. It's kind of sad when it turns out all of Vaas's scenes have been given away in the trailer, it's like Hannibal Lecter only getting a few 1-minute scenes in a movie he's on the cover-art for.
Basically Far Cry 3 is a tease, on paper it has everything we (speaking for myself and a few others) want, but kind of borks the execution.
