Well they say the first step to recovery is admitting there's a problem, and at least he's done that.

If only he realised that if a journalist falls asleep during a presentation, then it is the journalist not doing their job properly, not Peter's.

All other things aside, I at least have to give him credit for being willing to say "Yeah, my bad" rather than try to come up with lousy excuses or feign ignorance like most other developers do when their games don't come out as planned.

So... Peter is an intentional liar rather than someone who cannot properly calculate what a programming team will be able to deliver in a given amount of time? I am pretty sure I won't be buying anything of his again.

I wish I could find his "wacky" comments a good thing , but I feel like he should be selling used cars not games.

Anyone who buys into any of his future hype and then buys his next game needs their brain scanned

We forgive PEter, in fact, he's one of the more human people working in this buisness. I like the bloke

I love Peter and his enthusiasm. He looks like a nice guy, that is not full of shit, like some other devs (or company CEOs). I don't really care if the games fail to deliver what was promised. I played Fable: The Lost Chapters and it was entertaining enough for me to see it through to the end. I also had lots of fun with Black & White 2! Too bad I couldn't play the other Fables, on account of me not owning an X-box 360...

Someone that admits his mistake... that is quite rare.

Now start admitting to yourself that only Fable 1 was good and start doing them like that again.

If his track record says anything, its that he won't follow up on this apology. I kid, i kid ..
No problems dear mr. Molyneux, i still like you, you deserve your award and congrats, but maybe its time for a fresh start on a new franchise.

Actually, a lot of things about the disconnect between his promises and games would make sense if he wasn't exaggerating about making stuff up on the spot.

In fact, this squares so well with my view of reality, I choose to interpret this as a serious statement.

Peter Molyneux is the fourth game developer to receive a BAFTA Fellowship. Other recipients include the aforementioned Miyamoto, SimEverything creator Will Wright, and Pong creator Nolan Bushnell.
The fact that Molyneux is in that group completely devalues the whole award. How can you even compare him to Miyamoto??? The only reason he got that award is cuz he hired a LOT of British actors to work for his games.

That said, it's nice to hear a reason and an apology. I've never had a problem with over-promise, it shows that a developer has ideas. There's absolutely nothing wrong with his games, they're great, don't get why they get so much anger. BUT he doesn't deserve to win that award.

So he made up features to get the attention of game journalists. That would make him a liar.

My advice would be to carry an air horn or a similar noise making apparatus into meetings. If the journalists look like they're dosing off, use it. Better than digging yourself into a hole and disappointing fans.
