Why would I question the Universe?

Thought it was a fairly well established conundrum that you dont know if the kittens actually dead till you open the box so the kitten could still be alive up until when you open it.

That's not quite how Schrodinger's Cat works. The idea is that the cat exists as dead and alive simultaneously, until it is observed to be either one.

And you also have to have a radioactive isotope in there somehow, preferably one that will kill the cat if it decays. Usually via some toxin triggered by radioactive decay.

It's also worth noting that the Schrödinger's Cat thought experiment is not meant to be taken as a serious theory. It was Erwin Schrödinger's attempt at absurd hyperbole to illustrate what he saw as the flaws of the Copenhagen Interpretation in quantum physics.
