I've noticed that everytime a new game is announced that 60% of the people will have something good or constructive to say.
then that other 40% just shits all over it.
why can't we just play a game for what it is now adays?
MGS4 is a great example of people shitting all over it.
and it got a fucking 10/10
same with GTA4. and so on.

What I want to know is HOW THE HELL DID GTA4 GET 10/10!? It's retarded. The graphics weren't really that good compared to say Drake's Fortune, game play was the same as any other GTA and that is my opinion.

i dont think its people being 'picky' but more them having their own opinions

people have the right to like, dislike or hate a game after all

As I have repeatedly said before (last night leading to a particularly pissed off flamer ranting at me), I simply think everyone should make up their own minds. Each to his/her own. If people like something then that's up to them, they can rant about it all they like but they shouldn't have the right to say to other people not to play/watch/listen to/etc. something. That completely defeats the point of people having an opinion when they are told by someone else what to think.

It's generally people that can't play the game that shit over it. It's the same with a lot of things. If people can't get something, they say it's bad just so they aren't annoyed as much.

Unacceptable! If a professional reviewer gives a game a 10/10 then we all must give it a 10. How dare us mere mortals dare question the words of them? They are the ones who are given the game for free and paid to play it for 15 minutes before writing said reviews so we cannot question them ever.

the people that shit all over games have played so many games that they feel that when they play a game they dislike, they can never get that time back. they hate to play a game that sucks because the corrupt industry just wants to profit so they bang out shit and try to trick people into buying it. then seasoned gamers get online and ***** about it, hoping to decrease sales somewhat to decrease sales and deter gamedevs from making garbage in such a way.

It's more like people start playing a game with all the wrong expectations. If you don't try to like it, you won't. The view of expecting things to be shit until they prove you wrong is all good and fine until you realize the player's mindset is 45% of the equation.

There is rarely such thing as a "shit game" just games that aren't to peoples tastes.
Although i do feel that these days that game reviews in magazines give away 10/10 too easily on big titles.
I mean GTA IV got a 10/10 and didn't even hold my attention long enough to finish it, which for me is rare.

If everyone liked exactly the same thing the same amounts, life would be very fucking boring indeed. I try to give every game that looks like it might appeal to me a chance.

What would you call a game that can't maintain a steady framerate or has game ending bugs? Would an unfinished game not be considered shit?

no it didn't, it got an 8.
IGN gave it a 10/10 I think.

Edit: No they gave it a 9.9/10.
yeah but the OP was being presumptious, he said MGS got a 10, from where? so I replied "no it didn't it got an 8." without quoting my source material, just as he didn't quote his source material.

My source material was Eurogamer, GameTM and Edge.

For all intense and purpose, he probably meant it got a 10 on his scale, not other peoples.

I haven't played MGS4 so I can't rate it, I've played Halo 3 which got very high scores but I rate it at 3 on my scale.

Possibly a reference to an elder scrolls or fallout game?
I wouldn't say it makes it a shit game, buggy like crazy perhaps but still enjoyable.

Slow framerates are usually caused by the system you run it off, not the game itself.

If I was a PC gamer I would agree. Since I game mostly on the 360 that is not an excuse. And no I was not thinking of either one of them. The first 2 that popped into mind was Incredible Hulk and Destroy all Humans (the 360 games). F3 and Oblivion are kind of excusable just due to the sheer size of the games and the technical limitations of the hardware. They have to release the game at some point and if they have to try and fix every little bug before shipping it could delay them by years and kill thier company in the process. And to thier credit they did fix them via patch.

Oh and I almost forgot my personal fave. Star Wars the Force Unleashed with the "Insert Default Text Here" in the objective menu.

I know its been said already but, 65 + 45 = 100?
Seriously I hate people who only play FPS and shun all who play any other genres. I remember at school I once said I enjoy the legend of zelda and this guy says, "That game sucks, your just running around as an elf kid, you sacrifice your masculinity if you play that game." After some questioning I found out that he played todays shooters and complained that the legend of zelda was unrealistic... Okay so dungeons full of treasures and an elf kid are to unrealistic, yet a guy in green armor running around shooting Midget aliens with a gun that fires green jets of light is perfectly fine?

Not really. I started playing Psychonauts with the following mindset "This game is going to suck so hard its lips will dry out". Now I'm ready to recommend Psychonauts to everyone.
