I hope it's good. I'm looking forward to it since I actually enjoyed the first Silent Hill movie. It felt like the first good game to movie translation I've ever experienced.

:'( I can just see the dissapointment now....honestly so sick of half baked movies made to milk a good franchise. The first SH movie imo the only thing they got right was the transition into the alternate world. I have a good feeling they're not even going to let Heather look like Heather...

^ This here.

They really need to remember that the monsters are the personal demons of the people who enter into Silent Hill and unless James is roaming around then CUT THE CRAP!

Goddamn movies always relying on sex appeal as a f*cking crutch and can't let the horror of their monsters be a stand alone feature that can lure the audience in.

F*CK ALL!!!!

Noob Saibot does not approve of your bullshit!

^Both of these. All I see is gory fanservice.

Besides not making one? Fine, if there were a silent hill movie that didn't parrot 2 games for the stupidest fucking reasons. The movie used the "plot" of the first game, but changing the main character, his personality, flaws and likability. To further cement their incompetence they use the enemy deigns from silent hill 2 which makes no sense. The main character is looking for her daughter. tink about that. What does that have to do with sexual repression and gender roles imposed on men? NOTHING. That is what silent hill 2 was about to me. It was amazing.
I would be interested in a silent hill movie that is based off silent hill 2 in the way that it is about a person coming to terms with themselves and their society. Completely original not this prroting bullshit which is such an obvious fucking cash in.
I think you're a wee bit more emotionally invested in this than I am.

To be clear, I never said the first one was a great movie. It's not; I acknowledge that. Even if one thought the main plot completely worked, there's still the small fact that the whole Sean Bean "real world" plot was attached to the main thread so awkwardly that you can practically see the staples.

I said that I enjoyed it. I did. You are free not to.

I think they did a reasonably good job of presenting something that visually looked like Silent Hill and presented some of the same themes (including the possibility that our heroes never really escape the place, and may not be able to.) They may have over-explained some aspects, and yet failed to explain others sufficiently that a non-fan audience could understand what was going on. But given the medium, it's fairly remarkable that it managed to make it into major theaters without turning into "There's a place with lots of fog where a killer with a pyramid on his head kills people." You interpret the pieces of the games they've included as a cash grab and a show of disrespect to the fans of the series; I'm pleased they managed to show as much respect for it as they did.

I think that the Silent Hill movie is probably the only game adaptation that hasn't been terrible. It was decent, not faithful to the story, but it captured the tone very well. Sure, it paid fan service with the nurses and Pyramid Head, but so did most of the game series >_>;

And...I actually have a tiny glimmer of hope that the 3D might work. Giant emphasis on might. If it helps to immerse the viewers into the creepy town even more, then excellent. Admit it; if you see her walking down a blood encrusted street and a Robbie the Rabbit costumed corpse zooms in from the side, you're gonna be happy. In a terrified kinda way.

It has every chance to be terrible...but the first one wasn't bad. Which, as far as game-to-movie adaptations go, is like Prince of Persia Sands of Time's story when compared Metroid: Other M.

I have hopes for this.

Okay, I have to ask... what's a good Malcolm McDowell movie??

EDIT: Besides Clockwork Orange... preferably a movie of the last 30 years.
I heard Caligula (1979) is pretty good. But he mostly does voice work these days. I think they guy is very talented, and is fine with whatever is thrown at him.

in the most unsubtle way imaginable. They miss the point so badly that they use the nemies from silent hill 2. read my post above to see what I think of that.
It makes a certain amount of sense if the monsters that appear have more to do with Alessa's mindset than the visitor's- the nurses and "vomiting invalid" are what she saw around her in the hospital. Certainly the way the nurses were presented looked more like James' "libido under restraint" nurses of SH2 than what I've seen of the nurses of SH1.

I could torture a link for why Pyramid Head appeared, but I'm not going to pretend to excuse it. Pyramid Head appears because they realized somewhere along the way the he's one of the more recognizable iconic monsters of Silent Hill, so he keeps popping up.

So, yeah, it borrows a lot more visually from SH2 than SH1 without borrowing the psychological themes that brought those monsters into being. I guess I'm just glad that at least they managed to make them look like those, and bring some of the dread their presence inspired along (your mileage, as always, may vary.) More than I can say about Homecoming, really.

....ummm... what? Part of the idea of silent hill that no one seems to get is that all of the characters can leave. But they don't want to. In 2/3 they are staying there to find who they are,
James "finding" his wife and heather avenging her father.
It's been noted, though, that...
even in the "happy" ending of Silent Hill 2 the characters are still drifting through fog as they "leave". The second run ending of SH3 reveals that Heather has unknowingly killed her benefactor, raising the question of whether her "victory" over the dark god has any practical meaning.

Huh...kind of disappointed in who they picked to be Vincent. xD;
I always said if they made SH3 into a movie, I'd pick Cillian Murphy to be him...

Oh well, let's just see how this turns out, eh?

I enjoyed the middle third of the Silent Hill film, I really did! And Silent Hill 3 is my favourite of the series...

But... I mean, this new movie is just a cash grab, right? Sequel, videogame adaptation, 3D... Red flags all 'round. We aren't getting another Silent Hill because filmmakers thought they could tell us a good story with it, we're getting one because the studios know brand recognition and technical gimmicks sell tickets. It's the same reason Uwe Boll's films are all game adaptations despite his contempt for videogames; because he knows he'll make his money back quicker with Dungeon Siege than Generic Shitty Fantasy Movie.

Pfffff.... Yeah. I'll go see this one. But I doubt my expectations could be lower.

...God, I'm part of the problem with modern movies, aren't I?

Okay, call me a... umm... something bad, but I dismissed this as soon as I saw the "3D" on the end.

That's not to say 3D is evil, or that it never works, but "Silent Hill 3D"? Come on. That's just silly.
Gonna second this motion.
I will see a movie that looks good and take a peek at the title, as soon as I see In 3D at the end there's an audible "awwww" as if someone just missed a really impressive goal and the whole crowd is disappointed.

The 1st movie was ok at a stretch but I have to back up this statement...

But... but, the nurses don't belong in a Silent Hill film unless the main character is James Sunderland.

The same goes for Pyramid Head if he happens to make an appearance (which you know he will).
"SO what makes Silent hill its own?"

"Erm.... zombie nurses and a dude with a big hat?"

"SCORE!"

No I'm sorry but that was ONE of the games of the original good series which even now makes me kak myself and this is coming from someone who considers himself scare proof.

This is purely pandering to the fans of one game and more importantly the crowd who claim to be SH buffs but only know of those 2 things in the series.

Utter fail.

I guess they won't be taking Yahtzee's advice to "drop the sexy, big-titted nurses." Which is a shame because it shows that they're going for brand recognition, without even understanding what the brand is about.

I strongly disliked the first movie. It was a clusterfuck of fan service references and the plot made no sense, even to me, let alone to people who have never heard of the games. I had hoped that they would let it die, then I see this. It would take some real balls to make a great movie out of a source material that worked because it was interactive, and they blew it once, so I don't have high hopes for it. Especially when they put "3D" in the title. What is this, Cinema going through its own "64" phase?

I loved Malcom McDowell in both Gulag and Time After Time. In the last 10-15 years he's mostly been doing a lot of voice work.

I also really loved the first Silent Hill movie. I wanted Silent Hill 2 to be James's story, but it makes sense to go with Heathers. I'm looking forward to see what they'll do...too bad that Gans and Avery aren't involved.
