not funny.

especially since my piercing isn't a full ring.
Well whenever i See any kind of septum piercing i instantly tie it with ol' Daisy there. Im certainly not the only one.

I would never say it to someone that i didnt know, but i always think it.

Eh...to be honest you're kinda asking for it with a septum piercing. I don't think it's just the fact that it's a piercing in general, but rather the location. You just happen to like a piercing that, in general, isn't that well received, even by people with piercings. I mean I know you like it, but generally the public perception is that that particular piercing is rebellious and unusual. In a way, this is a fair thought, only because people who get piercings (especially facial ones) know that they are looked down on in parts of society...if you get one anyway, in a way it IS rebellious because you are ignoring this fact.

I'm not dissing piercings btw...I've got a cartilage piercing and two lobe piercings in each ear, and I'm just waiting until I get a job that accepts nose piercings before I get one (not like the one you got...more like this:)

I think that piercings are fine. You just have to find people who don't think it's a big deal. Unfortunately, septum piercings are the least accepted daily seen piercings. If people don't accept you because of the piercing, call them out, don't back down, and go all the way on the offensive.
Most of my friends are fine with it. A lot of them actually think I suit it, which is grand. But there's more than a handful of people in school who insist on saying "THAT'S FUCKIN' DISGUSTIN'!" when they see me. That's always funtimes. :)
Also, you may not find it funny, but again, you HAVE to accept that people are going to view you as this. Same thing if you get a tattoo. You may think it's not fair, but people are entitled to their opinion, just like you're entitled to yours.

Also, I kinda think out of all the piercings you could get, it is the most disgusting...I mean you ARE basically picking your nose whenever you have to put it in. Granted, like I said before, I'm thinking of getting my nose pierced too, but...yeah. It is kinda gross.

I've got two piercings through my left eyebrow and an earring and regardless of what people say they do discriminate. I have to wear an expensive business suit as part of my job and if I'm in a room with other guys in suits, people tend to take me less seriously. If I take them out, there is a noticable difference.

On another topic, I had my tongue pierced and it destroyed the teeth on my right side. Cost me a fortune to fix.

When i worked in a pub, one of the waitresses had that done - She had to wear a blue safety plaster over it (in case it fell out in food), But it wasnt a big deal.

I prefer those kind of piercings than the septum.

Oh geez really? I had no idea a tongue piercing could do that!! Ooh...makes me cringe. Was it because of infection? Did it just keep rubbing up against your teeth and wore down the enamel?

I've never been one to judge but unfortunatly the same can't be said of others. I mean personally I'd never get the piercing you have but to each his own. And as far as the distrust just call them out on it if you can or try to show them that thier wrong in judging you

You're not the only one. I always think "heh, bullring" when I see them. As do I think "metal acne" with others or "why the hell would you want to put metal in your body?".

This is how I feel as well, I think it looks boorish and dumb. When I see people like that I think, "gee what a rebel" or "gross"

I don't like facial piercings, they are gross.

Piercings in unusual places are very, rebellious, and apparently, so is shotting and robbing people.

I hate piercings anywhere other than the ears...except the navel for women..

Ohhh...

To put it bluntly; it looks thuggish.

I'm not against piercings all together, but in certain places it just looks outright trashy and/or thuggish. This is one of those places.

Sorry, but it kinda comes with the territory. Don't let it put you off piercings, though. I actually have 2 10g septum piercings. The people who you want to be around will like it or accept it. Screw the ones who on't understand. Why care what they think anyways? Don't bother getting into body mods if you are worried about the image you are projecting. Its a personal thing, and only other who are into the culture will ever truly understand.

I don't like piercings, don't mind tattoos. And They only meant trouble 30 years ago or more. And the most common nose ring looks like a booger and everyone who has one has to stop wearing it!.

i use to have a few but i had to take them out when i started looking for work :( yes you have to get use to being treated like that piercings are generally seen as being weird and different and people that have them are trying to make a statement etc etc i don't agree with that but that's probably because all my friends had them as well so it never seemed that uncommon to me but the majority of the public do not have them or friends with them either and don't understand that just because you have a hole in your face does not make you a rebel out to destroy society

i miss my septum most of all though but if being treated like that in certain social situations really starts to bother you. you can always flip it up into your nose until your in some kind of "safe zone"

To be honest, I do find that particular piercing style a little off. Maybe because from a distance or with just a passing glance it looks like a noseful of dripping snot.

Personally I would very much doubt that security guards are just interested in you because of a piercing. I know from experience in retail that it takes all sorts to shop lift (I kid you not, my team caught a guy shoplifting from us and we knew he had a £70,000 car sitting outside) and if you stereotype one sort of person you will miss everyone else robbing you blind.

It is possible that with your change of circumstances you feel either (A) More confident or (B) More guarded and cagey. Demeanour attracts attention. If you are nervous, handling product, picking up and putting down you will get noticed. Now you might be thinking about what you can afford and that is kind of normal. But it is a bit of a red flag. In your OP you say you were just in the shop to kill time which suggests you weren't in there to buy stuff and were just hanging out - that will probably flag you as well. I don't think it would matter if you had a bone through your nose.

As for teachers - with few exceptions they are there to make you pass exams (in the UK I don't even believe they wish to teach a subject..just get a pass percentage) which means every student is filed and organised and result tables are all the matters. It is kind of a cookie cutter approach which is sad (and leaves people unprepared for subjects at higher levels). It could be a piercing. Or dying your hair blue. Or something that makes you stand out from the processed masses. Sometimes toeing the line is the wiser choice - Especially as you have a wish to go in to higher education.

I generally dislike septum piercings, others are ok though. I think it's widely considered to be a piercing that punks/anarchists have, plus it looks like the bull ones mentioned earlier.

I have a prince albert, unusual but not noticeable unless I'm flailing my wang around in public. But if I tell someone they don't suddenly think I'm the spawn of satan for having something other than my ears pierced.

My father always told me,
that if I would come home with a piercing,
he'd rip it out with his bare hands,
no matter WHERE I'd have it.

Man's got hands like freakin' coal shovels...

Not that I would ever want one anyway, simply don't have the need.
Doesn't seem practical and doesn't exactly offer any advantages.

Still, you know, if ya dig it, go with it, I will be the last one to judge.

I'm sorry if I offend, but I don't like them. I have ear lobe piercings because I like to wear pretty jewelry but face piercings are off to me. It's probably because anyone who has ever had one has been rude to me, was very self righteous, or simply could not hold an intelligent conversation. I'm not saying that's you but... It's like hearing a name on a kid you don't like and it turns you off to that name forever. Just human prejudice, everyone is guilty of it.

You can do whatever you want with your body, but you need to be prepared for people to make first glance impressions and judgments. It's not fair, I know, but that's how life works.

They can have advantages, either through increased stimulation of the area the piercing is in or as a handy place to hold your keys.
