It's tail is meant to resemble a torch, but I guess that does not matter much. You'll be the death of me Barbas, I swear. XD

Then again, I'm like one of the few Gen I people who has this opinion so who knows, maybe I'm completely wrong and Pokemon has never gotten past a trainer with an electric rat.

EDIT: Here are some designs from Gen VI to get a better feel for the pokemon from that Generation.

[/spoiler]
While I agree with most of what you just said, Swanna is from Gen 5. I am the resident gen 5 expert and defender. I gotta know these things!

I always loved Weezing. The other pokemon would run around merrily chirping their names, enjoying the fun little tussles they'd have with other pokemon, generally loving life.

Weezing just wanted a coffee, and for it to be friday evening. Much more relatable.

I'm fond of poor Weezing; life has thrown a lot of pokeshit his way and he just keeps on floatin' along in a cloud of dusky farts, looking like a flatulent clutch of tumours.

Good gravy, that would give even Doom Guy the willies.

Pikachu the best XD! HA!

Only thing Pikachu is 'best at' is being over hyped.

See this glorious engine of destruction. That's Tyranitar, a Ground/Dark type. Which means it's immune to the electric rats primary attack element. Not only that, the move pool it can draw from in fucking insane. You can build one of these monstrosity's to handle just about any situation. Mine is built in such away that almost nothing it hits isn't a Super Effective attack.

but maybe that's not fair, throwing a Pokemon out there that is generally considered 'top tier'.

Alright, then how about one of the others (three in total of the six I had on me) Pokemon that where responsible for me beating Red at 20 or so levels lower. (it was intense to say the least.)

Yup, Nintails was a big help in beating Red in my Soul Silver play through. Mine's not shiny though T-T, but it does have Fire and Psychic attacks along with a couple other neat tricks that helped me win. Plus, I've always liked Nintails, I've even traded away starters to have a play throughs with it as my main instead.

in case your wondering what the third Pokemon was.

I had help from Poke-Satan. Now, I don't normally run Legendarys. Mostly because by the time I get them, my team is already face rolling everything anyway so what would be the point past Pokedex fodder. But funny story ... there's an event in Soul Silver you can do if you have an Arceus where you can MAKE one of the 'Origin Trio' and you get a LvL 1 version of which ever you picked. I picked Giratina cause it looks cooler then the other two. Anyway, I'm leveling this thing up, and come to the part in Soul Silver where your back in Kanto and have to deal with the Snorlax, lazy bastard being in the road again. I wake him up, fight starts, and my Ghost Dragon takes a Super Effect attack, Crunch, and lived, this is more impressive considering Giratina was only like lvl 30ish at the time, and the only reason it took the attack is because I forgot Snornlax's learn moves that work on Ghost types ... anyway, I swapped Giratina out and ended up fainting the Snorlax, how ever that little impressive display of defensive ability (and that I raised it from level 1) pretty much cemented Giratina as the ONE exception to my 'I don't need Legendarys cause my team is better then that' rule.

EDIT!!:
heh, all the 'best according to me' have some story attached to them.

In that case, how about one more, as an 'Honorable Mention'

Lucario.

His place, like the above, was earned by 'extraordinary conditions'. In this case. He solo'd Pokemon X's Champs team, and NOT by choice ether. What happened is, kinda like with Giratina above, I 'forgot' something about a Pokemon I was fighting. In this case, Mega Gyarados's weakness. The result being Lucario was last mon standing and I still had the champ to deal with. I COULD have let her finish me off, come back with a full party, and restocked healing items. I didn't though, I thought about it but funny as it sounds there was this little voice saying 'You got this, You've risen to steeper challenges in other games, this, you got.' So I pressed on with One Pokemon, no revives and and only 3 Full Heals to get me through 6 pokemon. I say 'only 3', because the fight against the champ didn't really start until she tossed out Mega Gardevoir, the champs other 5 where OHKs due to me using Mega-Evolution right off the bat (I'm crazy not stupid). The fight between Mega Lucario and Mega Gardevoir was a back and forth slug fest, untill the AI did a dumb thing I was able to capitalize on and secure the win.

TLDR:
'The Best' Pokemon isn't determined by stats or popularity. They are the ones that you know you can depend on in battle, because you've seen what they can do first hand. Anyone who tells you different is full of it.

Pikachu the best? Pffft, yeah at being overrated.

Zoroark is hands down the best, with number 2 for my money being Zorua.
Kyuubi, you are a Trainer of fine taste.

Seriously, Zorua and Zoroark are pretty much my favorite Pokemon. I love the thematic flavor and quirkiness that their illusion ability gives them, even if their stats in the games usually make them substandard choices.
That's why you gotta breed, and know which are optimal to breed them with.

It's absolutely criminal that there are no Mega-evolutions for the foxes either.

But on the whole I always have to have a Vulpix and Zorua on my team, or optimally a Zoroark and Ninetales, because when done up right they're amazing in their classes.

If we're considering Pikachu as the best I suppose that would mean best received?

Seeing as Nintendo used and use jigglypuff and mewtwo (in that order) before they use anyone else in other properties it's pretty clear.

I think the list in that regard currently goes :

1 Pikachu
2 Jigglypuff
3 Mewtwo
4 Charizard/bulbasaur/Squirtle as a compendium with Charizard probably being the favorite for boys and Squirtle for girls
5 Lucario

Just rating that onto who has snuck into other properties and in what order/frequency.

A bit too angular then, maybe - especially in the eyes. Some of these (like the king penguin-lookin' dude) are unlike anything I can recall seeing in previous designs, but the others don't look very unique; they've all got this angry-looking aesthetic, even the inherently non-threatening and silly-looking ones.

I think...I think this might be why they were so big in secondary school, looking back. The trading cards sort of died out, but people used to put the stickers and tattoos on everything.
Eh, that's really because I like the angry aesthetic. There are plenty of Pokemon that still have the "cute" or "silly" aesthetic. Also, it's the anime that's emo, not the designs.

...Oh, you didn't know? Well, in the latest Pokemon, Ash's Greninja is a special Pokemon because it has a special form not found in the games. This form (which is not a Mega-Evolution) is powered by the bond of love between Ash and Greninja, so long as the bond is strong, Greninja can transform into a powerful form.

...No, I swear, I'm not making this crap up.

That is some fanfiction-tier stuff. But I remember watching some film where, IIRC, Ash was literally brought back to life by tears, so I dunno. It's so depressing. But then I think back to when he first tried to hug Pikachu and got electrocuted and it becomes funny.

Alright, top 5!

1. Starmie
2. Dodrio
3. Murkrow
4. Shedinja
5. Venomoth

That's in no particular order, although, if I had to choose a top pokemon it'd be Starmie

There are many correct answers; however, none have been stated in this thread yet.
1. Bundt Beedrill. I mean, if Egoraptor really IS Jesus, then we can take it as word of God that this is true, yeah?
2.
[img src="http://i914.photobucket.com/albums/ac350/ccggenius12/aggroninfographic.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo aggroninfographic.jpg"/}
3. Magikarp. Damn thing's a money making machine. For five hundred Poke dollars, you get the Magikarp, and the Magikarp chow. Now, each Magikarp lays a thousand eggs, which all hatch and become Magikarp. Then THOSE Magikarp all lay a thousand more eggs. and if you sell all of those Magikarp to suckers savvy business people such as yourself, you'll be the head of a pyramid scheme rich!

It's actually funny how Naruto the series has gotten in some respects. Especially the opening.

Honestly, I've been actually really surprised at how good the new series has been so far. Of course there have been some duds, but it's a weekly anime series. There's surprisingly a decent attempt at creating an actual story. Granted, this story includes a man's true love for his frog but hey, baby steps.
