Am I the only one who actually LIKED the Fade sequences in the Dragon Age games?

Anyway, Pokemon's Dark Cave (I hate wasting a slot on flash, and often having to find some new one to waste flash on) was a pain. I'm actually not fond of most games' natural caves in general. I'm not fond of Taris in Knights of the Old Republic I (it's long, not particularly interesting, has extremely annoying parts with the Undercity's monsters, and I went through it for Bastilla of all people, quite possibly my second least favorite character from both games (GOTO takes the cake, but only because he's both a pushy asshole and the type to strongarm me). Oh, what's this? I saved your ass from being a slave and your response is to 1) complain about how it was done and 2) try to take over? I gleefully danced over to the darkside on my first run through (which I've never done before. I always play my preferred goody goody types first) half out of spite (and half because it can get pretty fun).

Actually, there were a lot of stretches in that game I didn't like. Surprised I still enjoy it as a whole so much...

The Nether on Minecraft. The sounds the mobs make there is just disturbing.
So much this, I've been in there 3 times, I even regret building a Nether Gate outside my house, as the noise it makes is pretty freaky.

The Fade has to take the cake.

1. It all starts with the cutscene incompetence that gets you there in the first place. The game takes your control away so some sloth-demon can god mode on you. It makes it all the more frustrating to endure when you know that you should've been able to avoid it entirely.

2. Tthe tedium of constant shapeshifting.

3. You have to fight ogres. Ogres that have a death-hold that will kill you if one of your party members doesn't break their grip... Oh wait. You don't have any party members for this area. Enjoy your unavoidable GAME OVER. Time to reload and hope the AI doesn't screw you over this time.

4. It has permanent stat boosts, so you feel obligated to explore the entire level instead of rushing through it as fast as you can.

As apparently the only one in the world that thinks as much I need to start this off topic.
I Love the fade.
My single favorite segment of either game, Dragon Age 1 or 2, hands down.

What isn't to like? Solo challenge, unique abilities to play with, fancy (though admittedly uninspired) puzzles, free stat boosts, really great aesthetic.
I have two problems with the fade.
1: Not enough of it.
2: They never truly got into the puzzle mind game spirit and went all out with really difficult mental challenges.

Area's I hate though, hmm...
Going to have to go with two different ones for different reasons.

A: Uninteresting places. Samey underground tunnels, sewer, and caves from Oblivion and Fallout make me very unhappy.
The worse offender for this is places that don't use color in interesting ways, hey that's almost half of everything in gaming.
Use color and design well and I will love the game unconditionally and pay for it even if has game breaking flaws.

B: Deep water, for scaring me to death.
Can't explain why but certain in game water just puts a right fear of death in me and I usually panic and do anything in my power to get out of it.
Minecraft, Oblivion, World of Warcraft if my draw distance is down (Though strangely I'm fine with the underwater zones because it's busy enough with details).
But the reason I give this as a B list?

Because I like that something simple can invoke a strong response, I'll give you some context.
Oblivion has sent me through several trials on this quest, in the name of perception, reason, etc. I'm feeling unbeatable, ready to destroy fools, just then I enter the trial of courage.
I walk confidently through the tunnel before stopping at the end and opening the urn that contains my trial relevant item and what do I find in it?
A potion of water breathing.
All of the sudden I have a fear in me as I like over to the cramped pitch black water filled tunnel I need to progress through and all I can say is "Well played trial of courage, well played indeed".

So hate uninteresting areas to death in all contexts.
But hate being in water, which brings out the masochist in me because it can be very fun to fight with that fear in the right context.

I'm with you all on the plane of Oblivion, it's horribly lonely and unbelievably dull.

Being underwater in FF7 was always a big thing for me, because the Shinra sub is not very fast and I was always afraid of Emerald Weapon sneaking up on me, I was nowhere near ready to face it. I remember panicking as the damn thing crept up on me and managed to hit the surface button just before it drew me into battle.

Phew.

Vaults, in Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Any of 'em.

"You must go to Vault ## and retrieve this thing that we need."
"Can I get it anywhere else?"
"No."
"Have you checked?"
"Yes."
"What's in the Vault?"
"Feral Ghouls, radiation up the arse and a labyrinth-esque layout of identical tunnels."
"Is this a main story quest?"
"No, why?"
"HAHAHAHAHAHNOPE, KTHXBYE."

Those Oblivion gates were terrible!!! The areas were monotonous and difficult all at once. I had no incentive to go inside; consequently, I've only played the game casually and haven't progressed through the story much at all.

I also agree with Worgen in that sewers are 'almost universally boring.'

The hub-like temple in Phantom Hourglass (the one you have to revisit and redo several times) is very dull, and the caves in Pokemon are often rather frustrating.

I agree. I got really sick of the Ghostlands pretty quick. xD Even though I thought it was interesting at first. Lol. I want out of there! xD

Any underwater levels where I have to swim in a vast ocean/lake/body of water.

Seriously Super Mario 64 and your damn eels. Everything has nice, calm music, and then "Oh my god, WHATTHEFUDGEISTHAT!!!!!"

Bear in mind, I was 8.

The damn Ocean Temple in Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. You have to go there so many times in the game and you gotta keep doing the same puzzles over and over again. Oh, there's also a bloody time limit!

The horse riding section from the first Assassin's Creed especially since I wanted all the view points and having to walk past every single guard in a pace slower then a snail was so frustrating. And when I did get bored enough to gallop on I'd get chased by hundreds of guards that I had to dispatch before I could climb the viewpoints. I am so glad they ditched this for the second game.

Every sewer level in every video game ever made. It's bad enough they design sewers like mazes, but the developers make it so dark you can never see where the Hell you're supposed to go.

The Temple at the beginning of Fallout 2.
If you didn't make a melee-hand combat character it takes so bloody long to get through.

As much as I love Dragon Age: Origins, two places in that game can go fuck themselves.
The first being the Fade because it's so goddamn longwinded and I know I'm not alone in this because on PC there's a mod to skip the whole damn thing (frankly that person is a saint).
The next is Orzammar. The worst part of the game by far and the quest that I always leave last, if not because of the idiotic difficulty curve but how bloody boring it is.

The motherfucking Fade in Dragon Age. Seriously, it fucking killed my first character dead. Not just to a reload screen, but just fucking dead. I rolled him as a cleric type guy, and then the game throws a looong, tedious solo-mission at me when I'm loaded up with Heal, Heroic Offense, and Spirit Bolt.

...Rest in peace, Cleric Warden.
It can be done. You just need to solo the burning tower. Which to be honest is the easiest one. Then you have burning man who can just use fireball on his own feet and win everything.

OT: I hate space. Really, I think space is boring. I don't like space at all.

Until recently I just thought I hated Sci Fi, then I realised, that I fucking love those "sciency, but bullshit shows and stuff like Fringe and Heroes like how they try to explain fictional things with pretend science, what do you call that... *face plam* Science Fiction."

So yeah, I now don't baulk at SciFi. Just space. It makes my life better.

But most of all, them otherfucking (yes, otherfucking) Haunted Mansion in Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines. Place be scary. And a few pieces of flying cutlery and othe kitchen shit should not be enough to half-kill a flippin' vampire. So it was scary, and it could actually kill you very easily with pure luck deciding wheter you un-live, or re-die. Happeh.
I love that game so much, but it seriously took me, like, three years to finish it because I'd get to that bit, and stop playing because it was so scary. There were a couple of other bits that scared me later in the game, but nothing as much as the hotel.

I hate going underwater in any game. I never bothered with the Oasis quest in Fallout 3 because, seriously, fuck going underwater. And I got my lockpick skill up to 100 so that I could pick the lock to get into the sunken part of Rivet City because, seriously, fuck going underwater. And I stopped playing the first Half Life for a couple of days when it came to the bit with that motherfucking fish because, seriously, fuck going underwater. And that eel in Mario 64 that gave me nightmares. And the scariest part of Resident Evil for me was wading through waist-high water. The first game that ever actually made me feel scared was Ecco the Dolphin.

For other general specifics, I hate the Fade in Dragon Age because it's boring and the same every time you play it. I hate the Temple of Trials and the dungeon of Keeng Ra'at in Fallout 2 because they're boring and retarded. And I hate that level in Banjo Kazooie that has the shark because, seriously, fuck going underwater.
