I think I'll start patching the game now just incase, that use to take friggin ages, and its off the basic starter disk from back in 2003 (Pre aftershock!)

Also, random question, are we getting anchient tech enabled on these accounts? Theirs a few extra vehcles/weapons/maps that you get with them... if its down to personal use, then it means spending a bit of money will help... or will no one have them?

Sorry if this has been said, but there's 5 pages now. Obviously if we are selected, we are going to have to download the game. Does any body have an idea of how large it is?

Thanks Ralackk!
double thanks! however I have one remaining question for you spin. I have about half of those requirements and the other half I have no idea where to look, if I should enter and win and then it turns out I only have DirectX 8.0 or something and am unable to play would I be able to renounce the key and badge or would I just end up getting banned and hated for taking up one of the slots.
No, you won't be hated. If you are using Vista, that is supposedly a problem at the moment that my IT guys are trying to get around. Otherwise, if you honestly just can't play, please send me a PM and I'll give the key to someone else. No harm, no foul. :)

Running it in WIN95 Compatibility mode sorted it for me.

Also having poked around in game I think a quick tutorial would be nice, just something general that we can all understand.

For instance.

You spawn, there is an Equipment Terminal infront of you. You go up to the ET... etc etc

I have been a regular to the escapist for a few months now. I just never contributed to the forums cause i liked watching the videos and news feeds instead. However the instant the Planetside thing came about i had to become a member simply to enter it. I plaed planetside for months on end, it was IMO one of the best MMo i ever played. Granted it did "Die" due to killing itself, but i would be honored if i were chosen to represent the escapist in this battle.

Besides, when i did play i was Terran Republic, oh yeah, and we rocked face

Ghost user now actually signed up and openly as an escapist.

Ex-Vanu Team leader, Bringing guns to the party... lots of guns... lots and lots of guns :)

Got my discs sitting next to me, but i was under the impression planetside was dead? SOE had finnaly nailed the coffin lid closed after the servers became 2, and werner was EVACed for terminal emptyness.

Answers to your questions! (well, at least most of them) PLEASE READ

1) What are the minimum requirements to load and play PS on my PC?
Windows. 98/2000/ME/XP
Pentium. III 1.0 GHz or greater
256 MB RAM GeForce2 class card with 64MB Video RAM
* DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card 56k + Internet connection 4X speed CD-ROM 3.25 GB hard drive space DirectX 8.1 or greater *

The recommended specifications are as follows:
Windows. 98/2000/ME/XP
Pentium. III 1.6 GHz or greater
512 MB RAM Direct3D compliant video card with 64MB+ RAM
DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card Broadband Internet connection 8X speed CD-ROM 3.5 GB hard drive space DirectX 8.1 or greater

Internet Play: PlanetSide is an internet-only game, requiring players to connect to Sony Online Entertainment servers via their own Internet connections for which they are responsible. Additional online fees and valid credit card required.

2) What is the minimum ping you want to have to be able to play PS and be remotely competitive?
The lower the better but I have seen pings in the 2-300 range and that is playable.

3) In order to create an account with our key, do we have to put a credit card down?
You shouldn't need to, no

4) If people already have SOE accounts with PS, would that account work or should a new account be made to level the playing field?
The account would have to be a new account without PlanetSide on it. If you already happen to have a pre-existing SOE Station account without PlanetSide on it, these keys can be used on that.

5) Will the game be downloadable directly from SOE or through a partner site?
The game will be downloaded from SOE exclusively

6) Will there be a server just for this event?
The server that you will want to use is Gemini.

7) If people can come and go as they please, will they just join the current party upon login?
Yes

8) Did SOE ever fix the problem of White/Missing Textures?
For the most part white/missing textures have been sorted out however due the variance in hardware, drivers, operating systems, and the like, all the problems may not be resolved for everyone.

Well, we won't be recording ALL of it, but I'm pretty sure a couple of the staff are going to have FRAPS :)

For those who signed up check out the Planetside wiki.

I haven't played in forever and there have been a number of updates (besides mechs and caverns), so new and old can enjoy this.

Are any PS vets interested in organizing a boot camp? Or maybe we setup another thread with basic tips. Outdoor tactics by themselves are new for many players that are used to playing in corridors exclusively. I chided a few squad mates that traversed a hill at its crest instead of below. We don't want Galaxy Pilots that are going to bail before the squad either!

That is a great idea and thanks for doing that. Please make sure if you do a basic tips forums thread to post back to this main link for me.

Also, the 70 keys we are giving out are for new accounts only. Old account will not be able to be used, so you'll have to start from scratch.

Ok, downloaded and have been playing it, it's really addictive even without that many players! Got it working on Vista without too much effort either, so that's good.

Just made a Tips & Tricks thread.

I can't add much right now since I'm at work, but I will update/edit more later.
When I have some free time later, I'll add loads of tips to it, I had a br25 cr5 on werner NC and played up until the beginning of last year. I know the phantasm was finally released, but don't think theres been anything else major since that. (And the flamethrower for 4 year vets, that was nice :D )
