While I won't say i'm not addicted, it's the natural kind of addicted one experiances when doing the thing they love in comparison to the things they hate. It can in no way be compared to a physical drug addiction, and I want to see clinical trials that prove gaming causes any kind of chemical imbalance besides perhaps the release of adrenaline and endorphines. Too bad the industry can't slap this asshole with a slander/libel lawsuit. Or can they?

I'm sure anyone who has done coke can confirm that the high is nothing like that of a video game.

This.

Also, games will never come even remotely close to have any form of "high" equal to drugs, not even World of Warcraft(!).

And it's not just children who are being victimized. Pope said that he is currently working with a 74-year-old grandmother who's addicted to online poker, her daughter, who's addicted to eBay and her granddaughter, who is addicted to Facebook. "The poisoned chalice is being handed down through the generations," he warned.
So apparently there are people who are addicted to ebay as much as some people are addicted to cocaine.

Come now, I don't see anyone whoring themselves for money to buy a novelty Alf hat.

I think I'm like you. I'll admit I'm pretty addicted to video games, but I've been addicted to a lot of things.

For example, when I started reading the sword of truth I was reading about 16 hours a day non stop because I loved the books so much. When I got back into warhammer I would be painting all night, staying up until 6 or 7 am because I liked it so much.

Trust me on this, it's not the same. I can guarantee that if you tested x amount of people by letting them play 2 hours of a computer game and then (after a reasonable amount of time) giving them a line of coke they would all say that the effects were nothing like each other.

Last time I played a computer game it didn't make my face go numb or make me feel superior to anything except the enemies I defeated which, unless you're completely retarded, is quite easy to tell from reality.

Whether or not computer games are as addictive as coke depends on the person in question. I get the impression that coke is probably more addictive though, for the vast majority.

You have to wonder about these "experts". I wonder things like "where exactly did they train/study", "how was the experiment conducted" and "who is paying their salary".

if a child is insane enough to go hurt himself or others, it's not the fault of a video game.. it's the fault of the child being poorly medicated because he was clearly always batshit crazy.
I grew up on video games and I can truly say that they have not screwed me up socially in any way.

Agreed.
Parents buy kids video games that are far too mature for them and wonder why they are so effected by it.

I just bought my 5 year old son Gta4 and now he says he wants to go "Wun ova papl!" wtf is wrong with this game, I mean it said for 18 years and older but COME ON who reads labels that tell me the exact content of the game? Surely it's all a joke!

I work in shitty neighborhoods in Toronto. It's not Call of Duty players that I find asleep in my stairwells, and I haven't caught anyone giving a blowjob for 1500 Microsoft points. Don't compare cocaine or crack addiction to playing games. It demeans society as a whole when you do.

The fucking Lancashire Evening Post?! I am absolutely ashamed to be from that small part of the world, now.

I absolutely hate "experts" blabbing on about video games being bad for us, when they only look at the extreme cases. Let's face it, all it takes is a little parental control, and something ironically uncommon they call "common sense", and there wouldn't be an issue, would there?

I'll agree games can get addictive (Oblivion is my addiction of choice), but if it starts to take over the life, you've got to start questioning the person's original state of mind. Video games do not cause these issues, at best they highlight issues already there.

The ironic part is that I know a guy who well... He started playing games at 4, and I'm not talking about Crash Bandicoot and kid friendly games. He's a bit odd. It's sad and funny at the same time.

I completely disagree. 2 hours of gaming is nothing like coke. Infact gaming can improve intelligence if you dont play for over 2 hours. I definetly know im smarter than the inbreds in my class. However, I play for a little bit longer than 2 hours.

I play games very frequently, I am on the school lacrosse team and I get A's and B's in all of my classes. I think i'm missing the point here.
