So in about a month I will buy a PS3. Now I have no experience with consoles so I will ask those more enlightened than I am: Should I get a new one or buy a used one? Also should I go for the classic or the Slim? I have played on a classic a few times and I love it but is the Slim any good?

Get a new one. Since it does have internet access you have no idea if the console has viruses and such.

Never in my life have I heard of a console virus. Am I missing something here?

I'm getting one after Christmas, I'll be getting the slim. Bigger HDD. Silent.

Omg, the escapist forums, now with yahoo questions...

OP, ignore the first answer, I would say the slim is you best choice, its cheap its small and it has a big hdd, It seems to be the best deal overall.
If you find a cheaper older one (significantly cheaper) then go for it, its the same console, and unlike the xbox it isn't likely to die on you, so don't worry about that

Definately the slim. Smaller, a little quieter (not that PS3s are particularly loud), and in terms of lastability, new hardware>old.

The console may not be susceptible to viruses, but it is to spyware. Though I doubt somebody can really do anything with your Konami ID and password

I'd buy the regular one, I just think the slim looks at me funny.

If you can afford a new one, go for it instead

This may be a stupid question but:

Is the PS3's online wireless or do you need a wire? We have wireless internet at my house and the router is in the living room so it'd be kind of akward if I needed a wire.

Built in wireless. I hope it has an Ethernet port, but it has wireless for sure.

PS3 slim 120GB hardrive FTW
You know, it takes about a few seconds to put another hard drive in, and 300gigs only costs 50$. So, getting the slim just for that is, well, dumb.

I suggest looking around for one of the orginal luanch consoles, why? Backwards compatablity, even if you don't have any PS2 games, you might want some later on.

EDIT:

Well, the orginal 20gigs do not have the built-in wireless, so if your not wanting a wired one, avoid that kind.

I'd go with new one, used games are fine but I want a garrenty (spelling?) that my system will work.

The Slim has a larger HDD, and im guessing it has been improved on other small things from the original.

I have the normal 80gb one, it works great.

Well I don't owna PS3 but I throw in my two cents
get used one that if something was to happen you can just trade it in for another one. My local gamestore does that.

From what I've heard, 'improved' means stripped, no more linux, and no backs compat.

Of course, who uses linux on console? And to be honest, I know of very few people (no one) who actually use the backwards compat, but it would still bugg me to know that 'I can't'.
