Ironic that people are willing to harm the 1st amendment to protect the 2nd.

I love it when stuff like this happens.
he's not an American.

do foreign nationals legally have amendment rights under The US Constitution ?

that would seem rather odd tbth...especially given it starts "We the People of the United States..."...which he is not...
Does it matter?

If you value freedom of speech, does it really matter if you're a citizen?
actually it does matter when you start verging on claiming your particular domestic law is universally applicable to all and sundry yes.
The guy had an opinion on gun control laws, and suddenly that's grounds to some people to deport him?

Way to show that you have strength of conviction when someone's contradictory point of view incites so much bile.

Piers Morgans opinion is protected by the 1st Amendment. His residency in the States is not however. And since he has decided to actively undermine the 2nd Amendment, and in the process The United States Bill of Rights. A portion of this countries citizens has decided to petition their government to deport a foreign alien from their country. If Mr. Morgan wants to apply for full citizenship this would easily be remedied. But he hasn't, and he wants to lecture us on shit he's ignorant about. Soooo, yeah, deport the bastard.

Before you ask, yes, I have been living under a rock, so enlighten me. Why exactly is he under the risk of being deported for, as I gathered from the article, saying that better gun control will lead to less murders?
Edit: I have now achieved enlightenment.
He's not, that stupid meaningless petition website has a petition to deport him with like 30k signatures. It's meaningless.

He actually made a fair point, somehow...
However, given that this is Piers Morgan, I think he should be deported. Half way. Then booted out of the plane.

care to back that up ?

law has defined limits.
Out of the many law professor blogs I have bookmarked I think Eugene Volokh is most apt here, http://www.volokh.com/posts/1123520953.shtml regarding the law and non-citizen speech. Which nicely hits the court case I think allows Piers to be deported like the limey bastard he is with http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/scripts/getcase.pl?court=us&vol=408&invol=753 . There are other court cases which can support it if you want, which nicely tie into the fact that he is actively undermining our bill of rights.

Naw, we're keeping him. It is every UK actors dream to make it big enough to come to America.

OHHHHHHHHHHH

You Brits just gonna take that?
Yes, yes we are.

Because 1, we don't want him back and 2, he's not an actor .... he's a journalist that managed to get some mugs to give him a talkshow.

While Christmas is supposed to be a time of happiness and joy, spent with family and friends. My Christmas has just been ruined by the news that you selfish Americans are trying to deport piers morgan. Please find it in your hearts to leave him be, he has more chance of meeting an unpleasant end in your country than ours. Besides no one actually likes the smug faced bastard here in the UK. Every time i hear his name i feel an uncontrollable urge to spit on the ground, like every time i see his face i cant stop myself from vomiting violently. So a cry from the British people, don't send him back here :(

You realize that those "White House Petitions" have absolutely no legal weight whatsoever, right?

News sites are only bringing them up to give people something to ***** about.

Regarding the article: Edit: Fuck it, I'm not opening myself up to a gun debate. I'm just going to say that Morgan came off as a massive uneducated prick, which is funny since he tried to call someone else stupid.

But I'm not here to argue about guns. I'm here to point out that the whole White House thing doesn't matter, since it says RIGHT ON THEIR SITE that they won't delve into matters of law or investigations.

What a waste of an article.

not entirely.

its not a random internet petition website but the official means to petition the executive branch with 25k being the threshold for an official response from the Whitehouse.

i dunno about the states but when people start mentioning you officially and personally "in the house" over here you're generally in a world of hurt one way or another...
They don't do official responses on matters that belong to the court.

Here's another time people have tried the same thing:

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/investigate-chris-dodd-and-mpaa-bribery-after-he-publicly-admited-bribing-politicans-pass/DffX0YQv

Investigate Chris Dodd and the MPAA for bribery after he publicly admited to bribing politicans to pass legislation.

Why We Can't Comment

Thank you for signing this petition. We appreciate your participation in the We the People platform on Whitehouse.gov. However, consistent with the We the People Terms of Participation and our responses to similar petitions in the past, the White House declines to comment on this petition because it requests a specific law enforcement action.
Edit: Freedom of Speech in the US is assumed. The only possible exception, since he clearly isn't being libelous or slanderous or threatening, is if Free Speech a) doesn't apply to foreigners (not true), or b) doesn't apply to those working in the US on a Work Visa (unsure of, but almost certainly not true).

Morgan has nothing to worry about.

Double edit: Reading some point earlier in the thread, you seem to believe that Constitutional rights don't apply to foreigners, which is actually not the case. Everyone, while on US soil, theoretically enjoys the same freedom of speech. I won't get into the fact that our government is corrupt and doesn't follow its own laws, but there you go.

One of hundreds of sources detailing legal precedent on freedoms for foreigners in the US, this one specifically about illegal immigrants, but the point remains unchanged:

A. petitions dont mean crap in this case
B. He wont be deported just because he is anti gun, there are plenty of people in the US who are anti-gun.
C. calling us selfish for deporting someone just because you dont want him in your country is....kinda ironic.

also...oooohhhh 30000 signatures! You can start a petition to have the WBC killed by firing squad and you will probably get millions of signatures, nothing will happen to them.

Can you explain WHY he is so hated in Britain? Sure, the guy does come off as a bit of an A-hole.
Simply put, his existence is only continued by his feeding on the souls of everyone around him.

People who don't know how to take, or identify jokes apparently... GrimTuesday, did you even read the original post? Or are you just trying to turn this into another gun thread?

OT: I find it funny that absolutely NO ONE wants Piers Morgan. He should just put himself out of our misery.
Yeah, I did, and you know what, I don't appreciate someone whose post as pretty much composed of 1) Insulting me because I actually posted something of substance, and 2) pointing out something that I'm sure plenty of people have already stated in this thread, asking me if I even read the OP, i bet you didn't even read the link. I was commenting on the substance of the OP, not just adding another pointless comment that ultimately added nothing to the discussion. So don't get in my face (figuratively of course) when you post was just some inane twaddle.

Please, UK, please, take him back. His show gets put on in our house sometimes and I can't freaking stand him. Can we at least come to an agreement on where to send him? Like Antarctica? Or the middle of the Pacific Ocean? We don't want him anymore!

sorry about that, but there is a lot of US bashing on these forums so it is hard to tell the difference between fake and real bashing, no matter how it is presented.
It's a running joke in the UK.

We finally got rid of the bastard and now America wants to send him back. We're not bashing America we just don't him back.

Send him anywhere as long as it's not back here.

Somewhere cold with no internet, camera's or any form of media would be fantastic.
I'v yet to meet anyone in the UK who actually likes him. He's looks and sounds like a second hand snake oil salesman, on a related note, since he's gone over to America, he suddenly can't shut up about his faith in god. I don't think he's got anyone fooled.

Charlie Brooker summed Piers Morgan up brilliantly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pf44cIldEk

Edit: Why the hell is Piers Morgan offering his opinion about American gun control? its fuck all to do with him. I wouldn't be terribly impressed at an American journalist (especially of Morgans "caliber") coming over here and telling us how we should run our country. The citizens of the USA should be entitled to tell him to get out. But send him to Ukraine or something.

Ok I fucking GOT IT!

What we do, now listen close here because it is brilliant as shit!

What we do, is tie him up, and ship him to the middle east...THEN we hide him somewhere, and give him a really really powerful radio that broadcasts to all channels and tell him he has to talk on it 16 hours a day.

Now, this is the important part... There will be peace in the middle east as they will all band together to find him and get him da fux out of there!

THEN when they win this sadistic scavenger hunt, we pick him up and move him to the NEXT conflict zone, given a couple years time... PEACE ON EARTH!

...then we send him to the moon.
That. Sounds. AWESOME. Nobel Peace Prize for this guy here, he's solved everything! Why has no one thought of this before?

Ah, peace on Earth. It's everyone's Christmas wish, and now, maybe, we can have it.

No, he's almost as hated as Piers Moron* is.

*Long running joke here in the UK.

Yes but Simon Cowell doesn't offer his opinions on anything other than horrendous manufactured pop music.
