If you want to find a cool vampire(s) you need to look no further then a gaming console. I can continually ignore the existance of twilight as long as Castlevania exists. I mean Dracula made Death his servant. Plus he has the coolest most hamtastic scene in any video game ever.

"What is a man? A miserable little Pile of Secrets!"

and then there's his son whose just as awesome.

The thing is, vampires don't actually exist. No one owns the idea of a vampire, it is not under copyright, therefore, it can be changed and manipulated. I'm pretty sure the only ablility one needs to actually be classified as a vampire is that they drink blood. (I think.) If I recall, the vampires from Twilight do drink blood.

There are plenty of emo teenager books about demons, about angels, about monsters, about lots of things, including just normal, emo teenagers. I think that it is important to remember that most teenagers are total tools and over the top (This coming from a teenager.) and that is what those movies depict. Add that to the fact that you got to watch everyone you love die, that you steal life so that you can live your own, that you can only come out at night (In some cases) and I would be feeling pretty blue, too.
I do completly agree with you there as it is weird we are arguing about 'fake' creatures. I hear a lot of the same things with people that love dragons and arguing about the biology and such of them. But for me my point is how much of a change vampires are lately in the last several years compaired to how they have been protrayed for so many before then. Of course it feels weird or even wrong to a lot of us that grew up knowing it one way just to have it rewritten another way to make money off of romantic emo fantasy.

I would heartily support films about the Noblesse series. One of the best works about vampires I've read (counting Anne Rice) and way above all this shit like twilight and blade. Really. Read it here to see: http://www.mangafox.com/manga/noblesse/

You'll be hooked.

Let The Right One In was pretty fucking awesome if you don't mind a subtitled flick.
Completely forgot to mention that one. Thank you for the reminder.

Let The Right One In is also a great example on how a newer take on vampires isn't necessarily a bad thing.
"newer take", well put.

Did you like Daybreakers? I thought it was pretty cool...cheesy at times, but overall worth-watching.
I haven't, but I've been meaning to watch it, as many people I know have been recommending it.
You should watch it, it's easily the best hollywood vampire flick in a long time.

You know what's gonna suck....the hollywood version of Let The Right One In. That movie had me in the first 5 minutes. Such a beautiful film.
Argh, damn Hollywood for always remaking shit!

I really hope they ditch their attempt on remaking Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, like they did with the Old Boy remake.

I've never liked vampires. Even before Twilight.

The only good vampire movie I've seen is "Let the Right One In".

Everything else is a pile of shit. Including the Korean movie "Thirst".

There is no cooler/sexier vampire in existence.
I didn't mean cool like that i mean cool in the same way that space invaders is cool. Sure it looks bad and no one cares about it but it's a classic.

Twlight is bad enough, but it's not the source of vampire suckage (hehe). Ann Rice is the proginator, the source, the matriarch, if you will, of really shitty and or ambiguously gay vampires. The really shitty part is that it was her intention ALL ALONG to make vampires so gay.

Having never really given a shit myself about vampires, but having always been a 100% werewolf fan, I have just as much reason to hate Anne Rice now because Twilight is her unholy brainchild.

I've never understood why vampires (and werewolves, for that matter) have to be all angsty and shit. Seriously, what is there to angst about?

Vampire: Oh noooooo! I have superhuman strength, preternatural senses, unholy stamina, excellent stealth skills and am now impossibly attractive to the opposite sex. Woe is meeeeeeeeee!!!!!

That's like being a rich kid and angsting over being rich.

Didn't the same thing happen with Elvis in the 50's? Weren't the parents and seniors outraged at his conduct? For years, they had known such music as big band, which is very conservative. All of a sudden, this guy, Elvis, comes along, hip thrusting and such awful, shameless things! The older generation was enraged, the younger generation loved it. Music just changed over time. People were probably wondering that same thing you were wondering about. "We grew up with that music, and now this guy is completly reinventing what we knew and loved!" etc, etc.

In contrast to all that, I can understand where you are coming from. Change often throws people off, especially if they liked whatever it was pre change, and disliked it after change. I easily say that that has happened to me before as well, though vampires aren't really part of the group of things I hold so close to my heart that I will freak out if things change, or they sparkle all of a sudden.

Twilight didn't ruin Vampires, Twilight ruined itself. Then some imitators followed suite, and ruined their own franchise. Peel back the layer of bullshit, and you have about the same amount of cool Vampire lore as any other time. Let The Right One In, for example. Or for a more straightforward one, 30 Days of Night. World of Darkness always manages a compelling setting with a very broad and encompassing look at Vampire Lore, without getting stupid. And True Blood manages to include Werewolves, and a central Female character with competing love interests from across the supernatural spectrum, and still be violent, dark, politically intriguing, insightful, and generally just be everything that vampires are supposed to be. Vampires are fine. Twilight might as well be a different Genre entirely.

I used to think vampires were the most epic mythical creatures ever.Until twilight got popular and ruined them.
Vampires are now everywhere and they're not the cool type. They're the idiotic emo vampires who have nothing better to do than sneaking into houses and watching teenage girls sleep.(That actually happened in twilight.)and sparkle when they get exposed to light. If you've tried to go to a bookstore since twilight came out you will notice that bad vampire novels make up most of the store and the good books are in storage in the back of the store. The worst part:the movies that caused all of this are crap. There are way better movies to watch(Any other movie).I'm just happy that vampire games don't sell well haven't invaded gaming yet.
My point is that unless people stop supporting this crap the image of cool vampires like Blade and Dracula will be replaced by emo teenagers who take their shirts off at unnecessary times.
You sir, a fellow copy clerk shall for now on will be referred by me "the vampire slayer". Thumbs ups.

Meh, if I want to experience cool vampire culture, I play Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. Best damn vampire game out there, and set in urban fantasy which very rarely happens in video games.
I have to agree to this. Multiple times. I agree to this. This post is correct. The poster of the quoted post said an accurate thing. Which I agree to.

Bloodlines is an awesome game. Not only is it the best vampire game I've ever played, it is also an awesome RPG. It was, unfortunately, launched with a lot of bugs (which fan made patches endeavour to fix) but despite that it is a damned good game. it's available on Steam for anyone who wants to check out an awesome Vampire RPG (Twilight fans need not apply).

Interesting that you and a few others mentioned VtM: Bloodlines... I actually picked it up about a week ago and have been playing through it - maybe 1/3 to half way in?

It's an excellent title. Despite the slightly "clunk" feel of 2004 source engine licensing and post PS2 graphics, it's the best and most literal adaptation of the White Wolf WoD: Vampire Masquerade universe and RPG mechanics, in both 1st and 3rd person gameplay.

It reminds me of Deus Ex in a good way - not exactly "open world", but highly detailed sections of what depicts a larger environment full of strong and quirky, but endearing NPC character voices.

Also, I've got to laud the game on it's ambition towards a multitude of different gameplay mechanics that all work nicely in tandem and provide multiple ways to solve a problem.

Just remember, if it interests you to buy Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines (2004), not VtM: Redemption (2001), because that just... sucked...

Digged the movie, Let the Right One In is a GREAT flick.

In regards to all this Twilight Bullshit... it's vampires now, but soon they'll ruin something else from the past, fashion is cyclical, just wait till they get to ruining stuff from the 80s/90s and you'll get to see your childhood be destroyed retroactively.

Hell, video games seem to be getting pretty popular, wouldn't be too surprised if we started seeing some mainstream crappy love-novels on "Gamer R0manc3" and eventually crappy movies.

You have ALL been warned.
