How did Twilight ruin vampires? They just call them vampires, but clearly are not. Shakespear would know they are not vampires
"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet" Means the same as a Turd by any other name would stink. Can call a turd a rose, doesnt make it a rose, or ruin roses (unless its on the roses)

Before Dracula there was Nosferatu. I support this character

Dracula was first.

Just sayin'.
Yes, Nosferatu was based on Dracula.

Also, I blame Buffy in the 90s for moving vampires towards being angsty emo teenagers and basically making Twilight possible. Speaking of which, how many freaking Twilight rip offs and cash ins are floating around right now? Certainly too many.

I think Singer Aliyah ruined vampires before Twilight did by making them boring.

Blade was meh. Dracula was alright. Orlok was the only vampire that did it right.

The first two were action heroes with skin problems and sex symbols. Orlok was a disgusting, plague-ridden rat from the grave that would sneak into houses at night to drink blood and spread disease.

I have a bigger problem with how mundane vampires have become. Stories stopped making vampires the monster and instead turned them into brooding loners that went to clubs at night in between sitting for hours brooding about their lose of humanity.

When I start to feel that way, I look up Last Blood.
Yes that is a vampire defending the last remnant of humanity from zombies. And it's awesome.
Well there went an hour of my life, but not exactly wasted.

Read the Noble Dead Series

I don't know why Twilight got so popular, I didn't even know you could make a movie out of kindling

After reading through this I am pretty sure that the problem is not about a bad vampire movie but that a series made vampires into a mainstream culture thing rather than a shadow genre. I have a friend who refuses to see anything that has become too popular and thus mainstream. I find that idea stupid as I think you can miss some good movies that way.

Vampires have always been in the romance section; just recently they have been the fad in that section. I have seen some good lists of movies and books that you can look into if you want a vampire fix. Warhammer has the Von Carstine books, which are a fun light read.

As has been stated before as much as twilight annoys me there is no right vampires just ones you like and ones you don?t. This shall pass and we will get vampires back only to lose zombies to the romance books.

Vampires were ruined to me way before Twilight, that was just another low blow is all. Here's how I view it, and its just personal opinion so no need to flame.

To me vampires got ruined because of Anne Rice.

This. Vampires were ruined a long time ago. Wes Craven's "Vampires" was decent as was "The Lost Boys". Although, I had problems with the chick and the kid in The Lost Boys but I allow movies some deviation from my view on it. I liked "From Dusk till Dawn" and "Queen of the Damned". (Anne Rice, I know but Lestat and the Queen went a long way in it. I didn't like the "Interview" series otherwise.) The reason I credit dusk till dawn is they didn't chump out the priest. I can't stand when they use Christian values to plant the story and then totally deviate from it.
To me, I see vampires as something you DON'T want to become. It is a form of possession and you are no longer who you were before the possession. You are dead, the body is possessed by something else like demons. All these stories coming out now means -you- aren't dead if you have humanity still. Using vampires as a way to explore the dark side of humanity is just retarded to me because as soon as you step outside of humanity you are no longer exploring it. To use that type of artistic expression behind a vampire setting is automatically invalid as you are exploring the subject matter which is vampirism.

I understand why culture has swayed to turning monsters into "misunderstood" creatures as that was the beauty of books like Frakenstein or The Hunchback of Notre Dame. (both of them struggled to fit in with human society) But to make every monster like that shows a total lack of creativity. Movies and books alike are taking beings originally meant to be embodiments of evil itself. Every book is now the hunchback and frankenstein but they aren't even making up new "monsters" or bringing in new ideas.

I don't hate vampires, I hate people who make a big deal out of vampires. If we really want to put this Twilight phase behind us, we just need to stop making a big deal out of it and move on.

The more you bring a problem up, the bigger an issue it becomes.
