This website is a business as such it should know how to manage its finances and assets in such a way that it doesn't wind up not paying employees. I don't think trying to improve their income base is going to help strengthen out what seems like a long running financial fiasco.
But a business can't pay its employees or contractors if it's not making enough revenue from its content. What the OP is saying is that Extra credits may have to relocate because the escapist isn't currently able to pay them enough to make it feasible to continue.

What if you're in the pub club? ¬_¬;
Your already paying to remove ads, thus supporting the Escapist by paying X time for special things. To answer you when you replied, its simple, Youtube does the same thing.

Youtube- Puts ad at begging of video, ad pay youtube for the space, youtube make money to pay to people who are very liked by the community bringing people into it and being paid to upload.

Escapist - Puts ad before and at the end of video, ad company pays Escapist for using their ad, then they make money to pay for people who contribute videos or comics, news or whatever for them.
Since we're in the pub club, and we're PubClubSubs, we've got nothing to block, do we?
EXACTLY! extending, extending, extending... Unless, what are you hiding from us, what is it you don't want the big bird to know?

Literally none of the ads interest me so what's the point of removing my ad blocker?
Well, keeping shows, the forums, website AND overall well being of people like Yahtzee, Jim, Move Bob, and the Extra Credits team a float if you DID view those ads, along with all the employee's of the Escapist, why wouldn't you?

Extra Credits is leaving because they haven't been paid for what, a year? I'm pretty sure I saw new shows crop up in the period of the last year. You don't start a new show if you can't even pay off the old one. Having the finances is not the issue here, it's either a case of really bad business sense, greed or both.

I've never used an ad blocker; ads have never bothered me enough to go out and get one. Particularly not on this website. But maybe the fact that I'm in Australia means I don't get as many as everyone else.

Upon learning that watching the ads here actually helped The Escapist, I was pleased; though I don't see how that would work, since I've never even considered buying anything the ads have offered.

I was under the impression The Escapist only get ad revenue if I actually click on the ads...

There are no ads for my geographical location.
I only use it when I surf through native websites.

As far as I know, there would be no way for the the ad site to tell if you were using adblocker. The Escapist would see it as a user who didn't click the ad, rather than being able to see if they didn't even see them. The only thing that would show a decrease in traffic seeing ads to The Escapist, is if someone was using NoScript and had blocked Google Analytics, or whatever site The Escapist uses for counting hits, which wouldn't count the hit.

Yeah that may be true but this sin't a problem that is goign to be solved by bring in a few more revue dollars by remove Adblock. This is a prolonged continuous problem that has turned into a big debt sink. The Escapist is running in the red. They need to cut down costs so that they can start paying off their debt and that means possibly letting some contributors go for a while. If you can't pay EC, then you say "we're sorry but we're in the hole and need to let you go for a while, we'll contact you later when our finances turn out better". I doubt if EC would be the first thing they would let go though since its one of the more popular shows but none-the-less there needs to be some internal cuts and changes. If you run out of money you don't just try to improve cash in, you also try to decrease cash out and I don't think only its a simple as trying to get more cash to flow in by watching more ads. I'd like to help out but the Escapist should be able to sink or float on its own since it is a business. I feel like the OP is trying to rally us to remove the shirts off our backs to save the Escapist when it sounds as if this has been a problem that has been going on for a while and should have been handled a bit differently. I don't know, it just bugs me.

I couldn't have said it better myself. It's amazing how many people overlook this.

Oh, hey, a guilt trip, because everybody needs to feel sorry for a website that pulls in millions.

Oh and another thing. Extra Credits is continuing to do their show on YouTube for free. You think not getting paid was the reason they left?

First of all, a more reasonable request would be to ask people to disable Adblock on the site, as opposed to uninstalling it. After all, there are websites out there that are a cesspool of pop-up ads, and disguised links that lead to more pop-up ads, and no one should put up with that.

Second of all, permit me to doubt that The Escapist is financed with ad money, given that I'm currently seeing no external ads on the site whatsoever.

And third of all, regarding why Extra Credits is leaving the site, there's more to it than just the lack of payment. Read the updated topic [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.305970-Extra-Credits-leaves-the-Escapist-UPDATED-WITH-REPLY?page=1].

Yes, because forcing me to watch advertisement has such great use-value.

Why not tell me to take loans so the banks will make money?
