Pokemon: Ultramarine Blue and Cadmium Brown.

Anyway, I think Nintendo is getting lazy now. First, direct sequel? Alright, alright. Change is good. I suppose giving the sequel a different name did not apply here because it will follow with the story and characters from White and Black? (I never played those games...then again, most Pokemon games are somewhat connected...but whatever).

But just look at those legendary Pokemon. They're starting to resemble things that I'd see on Yu-Gi-Oh or something. I remember when Mew was the ultimate legendary Pokemon. So simple and delicate, yet it was awesome. Same with Mewtwo. What about Lugia and Ho-Oh? They were literally opposites, and yet, their designs were somewhat simple. I mean, you knew they were birds. Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres; same thing.

But that thing right there...is it a dragon? I don't know. It has wings and fur and claws. So it's a flying creature? But it's white; is it an ice type? Or dark type?
See what I'm getting at? You can tell Articuno is an Ice type, Zapdos is an Electric type and so on. And that was great! Maybe they're trying to stay away from the "Derp, no kidding Zapdos was an Electric type!" deal. But I just think there are more creative ways to approach it. And as of lately, I think Nintendo hasn't been successful at it. That's kinda the reason why I stopped playing after the third generation was release.

But that's just me.

Or perhaps they just realised the inevitable "Pokemon Gray" name sounded boring?
*meanwhile at Nintendo...* "So how about Pokemon Grey?" "I don't know, it sounds kind of boring." "Hmm, you're right. What's a color like grey, only cooler?" "Oh I know, Silver!" "Oh yeah, Pokemon Silver Ver-...wait a minute."

OT: Okay I admit that I haven't learned any of the 5th generation Pokemon names, not even the Starters. So I seriously didn't think those were new Legendary Pokemon on the covers there.

Hey, why create a third version, when you can make TWO third versions, and continue milking every last drop of fanboy dollars?
It's worked for them so far. The whole "milk them for every last drop" thing has pretty much been the pokemon law since red and blue. I mean think about it; they're designed this way. Pokemon and features unique to each version.

Then again, no one is forcing you to buy both, especially now with the global link it's easier than EVER to get pokemon unique to the version you didn't buy.

Rather than act in place of "pokemon grey" as the same game with some added bonuses, I'm predicting this odd sequel thing will probably progress N's story, maybe even introduce more of Unovah, and expand upon Kyurem, Zekrom, and Reshiram's backstory... which is AWESOME by the way. Basically, two samurai brothers feuded so badly they literally TORE THEIR shared dragon pokemon in half, resulting in Zekrom, Reshiram, and presumably Kyurem as some kind of shell.

Also, I'm gonna go out and say that I like Vanilluxe!
Vanillite is one of my favourite Pokémon designs of all time, No idea why it's copping the hate for 'terrible character design'.
I have no idea either. An ice cream cone is no worse than, say, a bunch of eggs with faces, or a blob of slime with eyes. The Vanillite family is actually pretty adorable, in my opinion.

I find the whole situation strange, but we will see how it goes. It might be a good decision.

That.. was very unexpected. Color me intrigued. Black and White may have had the worst pokémon designs of the series (so far), but the story was better than those of the other Pokémon games and it seemed more.. streamlined than the other titles. I'll be cautiously looking forward to this. Unless they add another Stunfisk. Or another Patrat. Or.. I'm gonna need a pen.
I really don't get the bad design thing that people harp on Gen 5 for; I really think in that department it is on par with the amount of bad looking ones that each Gen has.

The whole harping on designs thing, and the outrage from people that were mad because they wouldn't be able to train their past favorites for their main story run through, got me to really look at the designs of the new Pokemon and test to see if how they work in look and in team groupings.

I did this by seeing how many teams of only Gen 5 Pokemon, I could train and feel good about them and their designs. To make it so that the test wouldn't take forever to complete, I put the stop level at 75, for when I would then move on and work on another team. So far I have three teams at level 75, and I'm working on a fourth, and I believe I could make at least one more. That's 5 teams, 30 different Pokemon that I actually like in look and how they work as a team.

My favorite part of Gen 5 though, has to be all the new and varied bugs that have been added. This is the first Gen that I actually feel confident that I could construct an all bug team that would actually work. My favorite has to be Volcarona, that thing is a powerful beast. Galvantula is a close second. In my study, I actually fielded them on the same team; they work great together.
I didn't mean to say that all the designs were awful, there are actually still a fair few I like (Volcarona included) and some of my favourite pokémon come from the later Gens. But overall I still like the pokémon from Gens 1 and 2 the most, though I will concede that nostalgia-tinted goggles play a big part in this.

I may be hit with rage, but I wasn't a fan of Black. I liked the story, but I didn't like the Pokemon that much. I didn't finish the game in the end, but from what I played, it was a good story but with less interesting Pokemon.

2nd Generation all the way!

The problem I see is that the tao trio is getting taken out back and tearfully shot in the head

Zekrom is Yin, half of what makes plasma, and electricity, the current state of human development.
Reshiram is Yang, the other half of plasma, and fire, the traditional thing that set humans on the road to where they are now.
Kyurem is Wuji/Mu (ie. nothingness), absolute zero (the absence of all energy), and comes from space and eats people (ie. not got anything to do with human development, and actively opposes it)

now, what's the best thing to do with the personification (pokemonification?) of the cold cannibalistic nothingness?

according to nintendo, glue it to something else is the logical choice.

if they didn't want it to be called Pokemon Gray, they could have called it Pokemon Void, or hell, Pokemon Mu (or even Pokemon M) sounds awesome.

Gah, damn you Nintendo! With your releases that I'm going to instantly buy no matter what...

Anyways, I'm actually kinda excited for this! I mean, it IS the first actually numbered Pokemon game and Black/White easily had the best storyline... so a sequel seems like it could work!

the only thing I'll sayt is that we shouldn't have to put up with only the 5th Gen this time through... that was just painful the first time...

Having come to the series during the 3rd gen, Black/White has been my favourite game since Ruby, so if Black/White 2 are actual sequals rather than just expansions then that will be brilliant!
Is anyone else getting an urge to have a Pokemon marathon...?

Call me when I don't have to buy a DS for this. Embrace the age of iOS and get something on there Game Freak, I don't want keep missing out because Nintendo forgot how to design a desirable handheld.
Age of iOS, lol.

Its a Nintendo game, being released on a Nintendo device, I wouldn't hold your breath to see them port one of their most popular titles out to other systems. Instead of constantly missing out, maybe you should consider buying a Nintendo device....?

Well the thing is that story wise the main legenday trio zekrom(dragon/electric) reshiram(dragon/fire) and kyurem(dragon/ice) were all one in the same in events before the story and will apparently in some way merge into one.And i can see what you mean by simpler design but that the newer trio has more than just their types to define them is a bit more creative than just fire/ice/electricity types

I play the shit out of Pokemon, and I've put my fair share of time into White version, but roster updates are the reason for complete sequels. I guess I just don't know.

If there's good post-game content, it'll be a buy for me. Or they could address some movepool problems. That would make it worthwhile.

Understand the nostalgia thing, though I guess I've been able to look at the present and towards the future without many problems.

It's like how I don't condemn motion controls, even though I don't think they are all that great at the moment, I look to the future of possibilities that could lead to the perfecting of such controls and possibly and eventually lead to something akin to Star Trek Holodecks.

I was present and participating when Gen 1 was the new thing, and I played every generation and remake.

I just never got why some people condemn a whole generation of the games just because of a handful of bad designs. Plus, how I don't get people that look back at the first Gen and say it was the greatest, that other generations are a mistake or ruined the game somehow. It's not like they took core things away with each Gen, the only thing Game Freak and Nintendo has ever done is add things to each generation.

The only core thing they have changed recently was how TMs work in Gen 5, how they are now infinite use, and I for one welcomed that, because I don't want to have to do like I have had to do in other Gens which is working through battles for sometimes 20 hours or more earning the points needed to get just one TM I wanted and extra of. It takes that away and allows me to just concentrate on raising my teams and giving them the moves I see fit with less time consuming work.

I guess I'm okay with things because I have multiple goggles on, not just nostalgia goggles. I where the goggles of the past, present, and future.

That I didn't know, I gotta admit. Like I said, I stopped playing a while ago, right after I finished Emerald.

The reason why I liked Pokemon was because it was so accessible to me when I was a kid. The premise was simple but not boring. I could pronounce the Pokemon's name (I still have trouble pronouncing Rayquaza...or those three Pokemon you mentioned) and I knew who the good guys were and who the bad guys were. Right now, all this seems like overkill to me. The story sounds good and all, but I don't know. Maybe it's the fact that I'm old and grumpy now.

Speaking based on design strictly, I prefer to have a simple, yet beautifully done and crafted elemental bird that happens to be unique and legendary than a complicated creature that anyone can come up with. Seriously, coming up with complicated creatures with weird powers is easier than coming up with a simpler creature with balances strengths and weaknesses.

But again, it could be just me not being into Pokemon anymore.

Wut.

I'm sorry, but did Nintendo just decide not to bother completely reinventing their francise every time, and now they just want to put out a sequel to the latest in their francise. Great.

I blame Super Mario Galaxy 2 for this trend. Ever since then, Nintendo (and Square Enix for some reason) now thinks it's okay to just make them exact same game again after a history of stand alone, wildly different games. There's probably more of a precidence for this that predates SMG2, but I blame Mario for making this okay!

Eh, these will probably still be good games. What do I care at this point?

I feel ashamed for being so excited for these... I guess its because I enjoyed B/W more than any pokemon games since Ruby. Hopefully it will be set in a different region, maybe in Hoenn, after all, they haven't actually stated any information about the games other than the Kyurem forms and the release dates. Maybe you could go back to the sevill islands as well. That would be cool.
