I should probably step up on getting a 3DS/2DS now especially since I still haven't played X or Y yet

I wonder if/how Secret Bases will return. That was always one of my favorite parts of the Gen III games. Lost track of how long I went around looking at each spot to find one with the perfect shape/location

Well first, exploring ALL of the regions in one game WOULD be too much effort. It'd mean that Gamefreak would have to design and model all of the different regions from every generation, all with different architecture and then cram it all onto one tiny cartridge.
They have a perfectly good console that would definitely be able to handle it.

Awh but I wanted Pokemon Z!

The new edition to the remake better be good (for one thing, will be fully 3D like X and Y?) since I hated the Dive HM, new Pokemons (least favourite designs) and the whole hidden base thing.

Generation 3 was my favorite, despite the features it lacked compared to the transition from Gen 1 to 2. This is awesome.

I really hope this means a new round of Mega Evolutions as well. A Mega for Swampert might be enough to put it back into OU competative tier, and Sceptile really needs one just to stay out of the bottom of NU.

But what I'm really looking forward to is the chance to finally return my Swampert home. I still have my first pokemon (a mudkip that is now a Swampert) from when I got my first video game, Sapphire version. Returning him to his rightful home and his rightful crown is going to mean so much to me.

Hey, maybe now the game will be playable or at least some pokemon actually useable now that they're not handicapped by the phys/spec determined by type crutch the originals had going on.

Though the reaction to this has been fun, since this is probably the most polarizing Generation of pokemon in terms of how many people liked this vs how many didnt and how this was the true first game for a new generation in terms of brand new game out on release.

EDIT:

Not that this is against you, but just the argument in general. I love when people say this as a knock against pokemon (or really any series games thats a roster change and a change into mechanics that the casual viewer either doeesnt see or doesnt care to see. why should Nintendo as a business have to change a model they know works and brings in sales (especially when looking at their financial reports they could use all the revenue they can get in the hopes of it turning over into profit)? Whats their obligation to the consumer outside of putting out games the consumer can enjoy?

especially since its so ridiculously easy to trade nowadays it shouldnt be hard to get those two or three pokemon you're not getting in your gen. I will say though, i would like if I nintendo could do what they did in black and white and have the games have a certain aesthetic difference.

There's no point to it though. You can just play the different Pokemon games. Not to mention that Pokemon isn't designed to be a home console game. There's no benefit to a Pokemon game with 60+ gyms, less connectivity while also being so less fleshed out than all of the other pokemon games because the vast majority of Gamefreak's resources went into designing a world that's 10x as big as one game.

Also, Pokemon is DESIGNED to be a handheld game. The foundation concept of the Pokemon games are that children play the games with their friends in schools or whatever, trade their Pokemon and battle each other. This might be an alien concept to a few people here, but the Pokemon games are designed to encourage people to go outside and talk to other people.
Indeed; Pokemon is TRUE social game in that you actually have to socialize. This isn't just killing people a thousand miles away in a substitute for bots. And as for the console aspect, Gamefreak has repeatedly stated they aren't interested in putting Pokemon on a console. There is no reason that handhelds shouldn't have huge games like consoles do.

You're in luck, that seems incredibly likely given that in the original gen you actually fought a different team depending on what version you got. I could see them extending that out to more of the scenery.

People have to realise the only reason this game is getting remade is because its so hard to transfer pokemon from gen 3 over to gen 6.

I can see them doing another Pokemon Blue/Red/Yellow at some point, because they, or there original remakes aren't on a DS cartridge. They are still on the Orginal Gameboy ones, meaning its very hard to get pokemon from that system onto the new ones.

The only reason they would remake Gen 2 and 4 now is to get them all up to date with the graphics and the new 3d models it's introduced, but i highly doubt it will happen, i think unless Gen 1 is remade again, this is going to be the last remake we see of any Pokemon games until we see a new cartridge that isn't compatible with any DS system.

Actually, quite a few people were waiting with baited breath for remakes of Ruby and Sapphire.

Unless you have some kind of compulsion to buy both versions (which, with the new online functionality in X/Y, is completely useless), I don't see why this is an issue.

At its core, Pokémon still has the same philosophy--that is, make a game people will play together. The separate versions have always been so that kids will trade with each other because they can't get certain Pokémon otherwise. It's a social game.

yeah I know, but the games were still the same. personally I feel gen 3 as the weakest story was and the gen 3 guys as the weakest enemies. I wouldnt have mindd if they did one enemy and then just the region look different.

Hurrah for more cool underwater sections and sunken ships! I'm a little put off by terms like "fresh take" and "epic new" but I can only see this is a good thing.
I never liked all the water BS that was forced down your throat. You spend more time on water than you do on land in these games. Which is exactly why I consider Hoenn the worst region.

OT: Yay, never wanted these. It's ok, though. It just means they're moving away from GBA and porting the pokemon games from there to 3ds. I fully expect a port of Kanto soon-ish.

I was so happy when I saw the news this morning. My copies of Ruby and Emerald are not in good shape anymore, so I am really glad I can officially retire them for the remakes now.

Also glad to know it's coming this year, I would not be surprised if they started work on this literally right after X and Y were finished.

Oh please, GODS PLEASE Let me be able to catch Jirachi and, Deoxys without waiting for an event! If Nintendo is going to give them away as an event for buying on day one, fine (unless Pokebank is required which I am still paranoid about). Otherwise, I recently played through Sapphire and really enjoyed my time with it! I'm a bit disappointed by the utter lack of screen shots but hey, maybe this will be the first Pokemon that fully uses the 3D feature? Or maybe it'll be the first Pokemon that lets players explore Orange Islands? I sincerely doubt that but ya never know.
