I hope giving each other video games becomes common practice. Like he goes to Japan and they give him Yakuza 3.
Then japan could pull a deviant move and give him a "stranger" game....

I would honestly laugh

Obama Care 2012: Swallow Potions for everyone.
did you just make a very clever remark about the people who said that Obama wants to kill seniors?
if so, i applaud you, how very witty.

At the beginning i was thinking like 'Go Team Poland' as it was fun, interesting and original at the same time... but then i reminded my self that i read Witcher saga few years back and i reminded my self all the sex/written pornography in the book and face palmed my self hoping that Obama will just put it on his shelf and leave it to dust :p

Wy jesteście wielkimi człowiekiem, premier Tusk.

(You are a great man, Prime Minister Tusk)
Jesteś wielkim człowiekiem, premierze Tusk.

Here's the fixed version. Don't worry though, Polish grammar is really difficult, and no translator is able to fully grasp it ;)

OT: I love this news. Tusk receives a lot of criticism since his party won the election, but I still like this guy, and I'm still going to vote for him next year (if only for the fact, that every other political party in Poland is even worse IMO). And Witcher 2 as a gift? Awesome. At least it's a quality product. Obama probably won't play it, and even if, the difficulty may kill him, but still, this is awesome.

Poland will lose US military backing once Obama gets to fight Letho without potions, because he didn't think he was going to need any potions for the Spider fight.

Sure, it's probably a good game, but seriously, a game as a state gift?
Yeah, why not? It's the 21st century.
We've had films for the the past century aswell, so your whole "welcome to the future" argument doesn't work.
And no matter how often people cry about gaming being a respectable hobby, it's never going to be taken seriously, just like "watching films all day" isn't a hobby, nor is playing with action figures. On top of that, the first Witcher was the worst example of games becoming more "mature". If the second is anything like that, which the reviews suggest it is, giving it to another world leader is just stupid. Utterly fucking stupid.

I actually think this is a brilliant idea.
If you think about it, a lot of very talented people from many different fields invested many hours into creating this game. It took a lot of technical expertise, creative ability and financial backing.
And it was all done by a Polish company that now gets a lot of international praise and recognition for said product.

It´s something you can genuinly be proud of, so why not use it as a gift ?
That it is a video game is actually of no importance whatsoever.

Considering what happens in that game regarding politics I think it'd be safer to give him Yakuza 4- wait, no, that one has similar issues. Erm... Yakuza 2?
Ah fuck it. Give him Of the End just to be safe.

OT: This is so cool I can't even begin to say how cool it is, despite just doing so. Polish dude's all, "Guess what the sexiest RPG this side of Skyrim is." And Obama's like, "I don't know. What is it?" And then he hands him the game and goes, "It's yours."
OH SNAP!

But seriously, it's nice to see an international meeting go off without a faux pas.

Hmmm, well while I can see where this is coming from, I tend to find it a bit sad that making a video game, even a decent one, inspires that level of national pride. Big industry, but it strikes me as being a fairly trivial product.

I also happen to wonder what kind of national recognition the guy who wrote the books that the character in the game is based off of is receiving.

I mean I'm happy Poland has a solid product that shows it's game industry is developing, but as an international gift... I don't know, it seems like an awfully big deal is being made out of something comparitively trivial.
Tusk also gave Obama several English-language translation novels signed by author Andrzej Sapkowski.
It's easy to miss if you don't know, but that is the author of The Witcher.

Most people don't really pay attention to what the diplomats give each other, they only time it comes is if the gift is awesome or unique. We(e.f. nerd) are exploding this story because it shows government recognition of our hobby.

Weather or not Obama plays the game, it is certainly very great to see that Poland, with a few other countries, has recognized that games are as much a medium of artistic and perhaps cultural expression as novels.
Another great leap for games since the British Prime Minister praised Batman Arkham Asylum.

You're calling the prime minister stupid? When was the last time you occupied government office?
