Now over the past few weeks I've been extensively geeking out and looking into the 40K universe, reading up on various information and such.
I used to collect and play the game but I don't anymore, still the whole concept of the 40K universe is interesting to me.
What occurs to me is that it is now stagnant and monotonous, I know that is the point of it in a sense, that everything has gone to cack.
But apart from the usual campaigns they bring out from time to time nothing is happening and in some ways that is boring

In the Imperium technology is failing and thoroughly unknown, even the Emperor's Golden Throne could break, as well as general corruption other bad things that have been happening to the Imperium it means they're in a pretty bad state. Things generally suck for the Imperium and while that's partly cool, I am quite annoyed with Empires collapsing all the time.

It just seems to me that something should be done, the Imperium should get their shit together and have another glorious age or something horrible should happen and bad consequences follow.
Rather vague but I just feel that a change is needed.

Of course there are several things that would limit the possibility of this:
People not wanting it to change, Stockholders, The actual company and so on.
But hey who knows, they could launch a new line of miniatures to compensate and please the stockholders. Alternatively if people complained about balance for one race getting too powerful, just lower the points cost of other races and sell more as a result. Yay.

Just my rant on a topic that'd been on my mind for a while.
Also I don't claim to know all my facts about 40K perfectly, just as best I understand, so sorry for any errors.

Yeah, I'm all for a bit of a change, everything's just ground to a halt.
I paint Orks though I don't play all that often, but the universe is really interesting and dark.

Woah, wait! I've got a question. Is there anyone at all that paints regulare Warhammer? Or is it just 40K for everyone. I love my Skaven army, damnit!

Also. I haven't read much about the universe, but I know enough to think it might be a good idea with some changes ...

Yep (Dwarf and chaos)

There is change predicted. When the primarches return and rid the galaxy of evil, or until everything crumbles to dust (but that wont sell many minis)

Major change? Can't really see it working. The beauty of it IS that everythign is falling apart and no matter where you are, you're screwed on some level or another. It's somethign that has been snowballing into the ultimate crapsack excuse for a universe over the course of several decades, there's no way any major changes could improve things without seriously destabalising the things which are already there and, to be completely fair, probably better.

Well edited for clarity, slightly anyway in the first two paragraphs. My writing gets jumbled at times to say the least.

I know the whole concept of a change would be difficult, but something other than another 'By the Emperor, another planet/system has been invaded by *Insert foe(s) here* Defend/Conquer it!' would be nice.

No, not really. I've stopped collecting altogether now but I still like the ideas in the 40K universe - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

See the problem you have is RPGs (of the table top and MMO variety) rely on a carefully crafted set up where the universe in on the brink of all out war/collapse/something or other. That creates tension and a feeling of excitement around the whole thing.

It's the feeling you describe, wanting to see the next development, which creates interest. But really, it will more than likely never come.

They could do o many things to please stockholders... i know the board game would only translate to RTS/TBS, but the universe offers possibilities for games of other genres FPS in the style of alien versus predator (the games) with multiple teams/races with different playstyles.

Or a nice combination

Battlefield scale FPS with more than 2 teams, with different playstyles and kits... Damn that could be awesome.

Anything with a well build universe could have a good RPG as well, or a single player action game "Tyranid Chainsword Madness" or something

Neat! Lizard men are awsome =D
And I agree, though. 40K looks really awsome, and are a bit easier to match with

I did the whole "Wargame" aspect awhile back but when you are "bought" out of a game it tends to sour your opinion of it for a long time.

Overall I quite like the Warhammer 40k (and Warhammer Fantasy) universes, even though they are a little over the top, and I really want to try both RPG's as soon as I can afford their massively overpriced rulebooks. I don't see a big need for a change.

The last time there was a minor change in 40K (the introduction of a new race to appeal to new players) there was a big backlash from the long-time players. Mostly from a change of tone and aesthetic.

I don't really mind either way, though. The only change I'm currently looking forward to is the new IG codex--that's "playable army rulebook" for the one or two people who stumbled here by accident.

Damn, you must have a lot of time on your hands. I'm a 40k guy but my friend has skaven. Don't you need to paint like 60+ to have even a minor skirmish?

I don't follow 40k much, but I enjoy the mythos.

I think the point is that there ISN'T Much change on a galactic scale, with imperium battle fleets sometimes arriving as late as a century after a conflict has resolved itself, the decline of technology to more of a mystic art than science, and the eternal emperor kept alive for 10,000 years simply by the sacrifice of an army of worshippers every single day.

I thought "wouldn't it be great if there was movement... if the emperor died... if the forces of chaos raided the seat of the golden throne" but at the same time, would it really be great? The death of the emperor I would see as the collapse of the empire in this state, so humanity further fragments and what is left as the counter balance... more orks, tyranids, necrons, tau, and all the other factions just get a slightly bigger piece of the pie.

Thats why I think the emperor will be kept alive until warhammer 80k,at least, and all military actions by all factions will amount as little more than border wars and campaigns rather than grand crusades.

Endless war, endless attrition on a galactic scale, and then you don't have to alter the basic canon and you can keep it going for eons.

Yeah, you do. But I just love having that huge army. I love the fact that Skaven have number on their side. It just looks so awsome. And I also love the Skaven slaves =D

Of course I see your point here and I enjoy it as it is, it is wholly interesting. But for something as dramatic as The Emperor dying, well that'd be just great. The Imperium thrown into disarray, only perhaps it'd allow for some bizarre plot twist such as perhaps he wasn't needed for the Astronomicon and that the webway he was working on before works just fine thanks very much and all is well. Systems lost due to warp storms would be revealed, Chaos would be a bastard but otherwise it'd be good. Hell the ordinary people may not even find out he was dead.

If you believe the propaganda of... well... every other race... the emperor IS dead and that is why they refer to him as the Carrion God, or corpse emperor, or whatever.

I still stand against major upheavals on a galactic scale, major movements must be confined to the sector level to prevent breaking everyone elses games!
