I have never heard of Anion.
Aion. Only released (to the public) yesterday, I'm sure you'll hear more about it from now on. (unless it turns out to be shit like Conan)

So whether or not Aion will have more players than WOW, I still find it much more fun to play. And in my opinion, that beats WOW for me. Again, I am not concerned if it does not have the same number of players. Being fun is all that matters to me.
Exactly, it's not like you're going to play with every subscriber (even if it was possible), so as long as your server is healthy and thriving doesn't matter what game it is on. I enjoyed LotRO and never found it hard to find a group at all, sometimes easier than in WoW.

Waiting for a trial for Aion however, don't really trust new MMOs.

So aion online has been called the "killer of WoW" in for many reasons. I've played both and personally i think Aion could pull it off.
Many games have been dubbed WoW killers. Every year they name at least one. It never works. There's always a bunch of people who play both and say the new is best and it probably is every time. There's always a game that can pull it off. Why hasn't it so far? Not sure. I just know that it takes more than a better game to do it. People wont migrate to another game just because it's better. They need more than that. People like familiarity. They also like to stick with the friends they made in the game they've been playing for years. That's what I've noticed at least. No matter how many people I've seen leave WoW to go play the year's WoW-killer, they always came back for the next major content patch and/or expansion.

EDIT: Just want to clearly say that I don't believe this is a good thing. I like variety. I think it would be great if there were 3-4 MMOs sharing WoWs success. Sadly that's not true. My post is simply about why I think we should stop talking about "WoW-killers". If WoW dies it'll be because people got tired of it, not because there's something better somewhere else.

Totally agreeable.
it does take more then a better game to take down a giant like WoW.

saying that Aion will be a wow killer is (pardon the language) retarded.

gameplay wont help Aion beat WoW, neither will the story-line or PvP

just look at the system requirements for WoW, and then compare it to Aion.

that should say it all.

God your an idiot.

WoW recommended CPU: "Dual-core processor, such as the Intel Pentium D or AMD Athlon 64 X2"
Aion Recommended CPU: "Dual Core CPU 2.0GHz or equivalent"

WoW recommended RAM: 1Gig <--- needs less ram...however look at video card
Aion Recommended RAM: 2Gig

WoW recommended GPU: "NVIDIA GeForce 7600GT" <--- needs a larger card (^ a series 6 to 7)
Aion Recommended GPU: "NVIDIA® 6800 with 256MB RAM"

WoW needed HDD space: 15Gigs
Aion needed HDD space: 15Gigs

OMG, THERE NOT THAT DIFFERENT!
who would have thought...
Aion needs more ram
WoW needs more GPU (funny cause it looks like ass)

I don't normally post in forums but there is so many absolutely retarded posts on this forum I must respond.
1) AION is not a WoW killer no, however it is going to take about 40% of WoW players.
2) AION will run better than WoW on worse hardware, this is because the WoW graphics engine is absolute crap, something we have come to expect from blizzard.
3) AION is not a WoW copy any more than WoW is a FFXI copy, it's a MMORPG, there is only so much room for originality.
4) AION Just came out, and has minimal issues, WoW has been out for 4 years and they still cant get a patch right! Blizzard fails at everything except making money nuff said.
5) No one wants to hear you cry about how hard crafting or killing certain mobs are, if you want to play an easy game play wow and stop talking about Aion.

In closing, I played WoW for about 3 years, it was fun for along time, and it is a very addictive game. Blizzard hit the nail right on the head and fixed everything people didn't like about FFXI. AION is a very good game, that fixes several of WoW's shortcomings, it appeals to several types of players, and isn't a failtrain like warhammer, ot conan online. AION is here to stay get over it, so is WoW.

When you can't even make a single piece of low level armor without ages of torturous grinding, the crafting system is broken. I quested through two areas containing mobs that drop the reagent I need, and only got one.

Since the mobs are so tough, killing them is agonizingly boring.

Aion is literally nothing but grinding. There is nothing else in the game. You don't even get anything in return, like new equipment. There is no reason to play.
ever though maybe you just suck at mmo rpgs? lul
just a thought, cause i'm playing now and i'm having no problems what so ever....meh...
maybe i'm just that godly.
who knows.

The problem with relating MMOs to regular gaming is that the average regular gamer has multiple games. The average MMO gamer has one MMO game. One. The MMO market is growing, yes, but there is an incredibly limited pool of people who are looking to get a new MMO. Most people in an MMO already are happy there and won't switch to another one.

Because of this it is essentially impossible to overthrow WOW.

If neither GW2 nor The Old Republic can topple WoW, nothing will until it dies of natural causes. Most likely WoW 2.
They already said they're not doing a WoW2. that their next MMO will not be fantasy.

I dont think WoW will ever totally die, just like everquest still lives. but it will become a shell of it's former self.

SW:TOR is going to easily take the crown as #1 MMO though. Largest game development budget of any game EVER. Almost a billion $! That's more than WoW has invested since launch.

Right now though, the most fun MMO i've ever played is City of Heroes. (btw Champions online SUCKS, biggest waste of money ever)

Being the WoW player that I am I really do enjoy WoW. I have friends who still play WoW and the community is so big that I can do most of WoW's features without having the trouble of finding enough people interested in the activity from either PvE or PvP. I really like WoW's storyline and the way they tell it through their Quests. The Achievements is something nice to do when you don't feel like doing the same old instances or dailies and the Holidays always get me into the mood.

I have not read much up on Aion but from the pictures I can see it's a really beautiful game and I have read a few reviews and the gameplay seems to be where it's at. If I can ever find the money or if the company decides to put out a free trial I will be sure to try it out and see which MMO I enjoy the most.

WoW will always win in a fight of the MMOs, just because of its popularity and fanboys. you just can't fight with the fanboys about it without feeling like an idiot, that is why I gave up on ever getting hyped about MMOs.
