True the Valkyrie missions were carried out by soldiers, But the plan was to not tell the german public about it and make the the people believe the fuhrer was talkin peace with the allies and that Hitler was admitting defeat(this would've saved countless german and jewish lives). Most German people including soldiers were following orders out of fear...not conviction of the idea that taking over the world was a good idea. THats all I meant with keepin it quiet a little while and using the knowledge of his death to our advantage. Now we look no better than the muslims who celebrated when 9-11 happened. : ) I hate politicians so much.

Would that not have involved them taking over the government, and issuing orders allegedly from Hitler?

The US isn't in a position to do that with Al Qaeda.

I don't think there will be another attack. With security in place around major population centers and airports it would be difficult for most non-ethnic groups who could blend in with the crowd better. but with the US expecting an attack, the racial profiling will work against all people of middle eastern heritage or basically anyone who isn't white. (i'm not saying the descrimination is good, just that it'll happen)
add on the fact that 9/11 was a complete fluke in the terrorist's favour in the best case scenario, and a purposeful conspiracy by the government in the worst case, and you can see how difficult it would be to actually get a decent plan together, let alone carry it out.

An ally in the middle east.

Also, Israel has alot of support amongst people who matter, they don't dare not be, for political reasons.
The jewish vote. Also, as above, a major ally in the middle east who share a more sympathetic view of the USA than other regions.

It defends a nation that 'technically' has a right to exist, gives Amercia an ally in one of the most hostile areas in the world, offers a 'semi' sanctuary for some Christians in a mostly muslim, (and radical muslim at that) part of the world, aaaaannnndddd- I dont know what else. I'm sure there is some military strategic thing we get from them but all of the above just came off the top of my head.

Back on topic, I don't know what to think may or may not happen. We did just cut off the head of the snake, but the real question is, was it ever trully a snake or was it a Hydra? If it was a snake, then we should see Al Queda lose a lot of momentum, lose recruits, troop morale, and the Al Queda may no longer be a major threat.

If it was a Hydra though... Shit might hit the fan. They could easily get the resources needed from one of the countless countries that hate us.

I think that since their charismatic leader is gone most of the weak willed guys will quit and the leaders still alive will be fighting each other for control. People dont believe me but they mistake these barbarians for a civilized army they are simply barbarians who lost their chieftain and now we will see how that plays out.
Yeah these guys never really seemed to be out to win whatever psychotic war they think they're waging. They act more like a bunch of idiot teenagers running around the world dropping flaming bags of shit on people's door step and acting like they're sticking it to "the man".

...They're kinda like Anonymous when you think about it. Lots of people want to say they're part of it but most of them are to full of fail to do anything successfully. Anything successful they actually do accomplish doesn't amount to bupkis in the grand scheme of things and then they get on the internet to go "Lulz we attacked uz guise. We R sew hardcore 1337Z0RZ." Then the world rolls it's eyes and thinks "God damn when are these trolls gonna crawl back into their cave and leave us alone?"

We will be attacked, but it wont be on our soil.
It wont be successful either.

If we are attacked on our soil, it will cause a lot of pain between relations of Islam of the middle east and the US population. If we lose more people because of this fake holy war, we can also become desperate and desperate people do horrible things. I really hope this doesn't happen. The world needs to put aside our differences and just except/tolerate each other has humans; a single species.

it depends, i mean according to the american government they buried bin laden in accordance with muslim customs almost immediately after they collected the body.

the one thing i dont get is if they had so many months, to train for this mission, why on earth didn't they attempt to capture... depending on who you ask the mission was to kill him.

and why oh why did bin laden hide next to a pakistani military compound?

i think the most likely answer is that terrorism will always exist in some form or another, be it islamist, ideological or whatever. But i believe that the legacy of bin laden and the zeitgeist under his shadow may finally be over for the general public.

OF COURSE, someone's going to attack. Because America fails at understanding how terrorism WORKS.

Al-Qaeda managed to hide the US's most wanted fugitive for over 10 years. I doubt that they would be stupid enough to do something so predictable.

Besides, I'm pretty sure killing westerners is more important to them than being symbolic.

It's not like they haven't been trying constantly since 9/11...and, to some reports, prior to that too.

Because it is an illegitimate state, put in place as a knee jerk reaction to the admitadly terrible horrors of Nazi Germany.

Isreal is a fundamentalist religious state just like many others in that area. They oppress the people who lived there and had a chunk of their lands removed to give to Israel. They ignore any international comment on their behavior, antagonise everyone around them and basically think they have free reign to do whatever they please.

The Jews have a right to be angry at the world, in their history they have suffered greatly... but giving them a naiton was like taking that one kid in school who always gets bullied, after a particularly bad beating, and telling him "This area of the playground is yours, do whatever you want, we'll be over here with our fingers in our ears.. oh, and here's a cricket bat with nails in it."

Basically this, but I have an addendum to that.

I cannot deny anyone in this world a place to call home. However, if you look at how Israel got its land, the Six Day War if I'm not mistaken, then one can make credible claims about the legitimacy of the state of Israel. Noam Chomsky has done well to voice his opinion on that and, being one of the world's greatest intellectuals, I recommend to both of you that you give him a listen to. He makes great points about this issue.

I feel that this isn't over, not by a long shot.

The extremists will likely make Bin Laden into a martyr. How likely is it that you think we'll be under attack again? Are we guarded enough to prevent it?
I believe we've given [whomever may want to attack America at this point] more than enough reason to do so. Bin Laden was important to America because of his involvement in 9/11, but in terms of those that believe in Bin Laden; no more or less important than any other "terrorist" leader America has toppled thus far.

[edit] added a few words to clarify what I meant to say.
