I just think there'd be a big influx of trolls, unfortunately, and people simply posting to say "I Hate Anime", so it'd need a constant watch I think.

Well, you could say the same thing about the gaming discussion board, you'd think there'd be plenty of people saying "Games are 4 nurds" and stuff like that, but after the first handful get banned people start to think twice.

While that is true, to be fair The Escapist is a gaming-related website, first and foremost, so people who aren't gamers or aren't interested in games aren't as attracted to the site in the first place, yes? So, the users of the site are much more likely to post (hopefully) nicely and only defend their favourite games or consoles, rather than trolling games in general, although I've no doubt that it must have happened at some point.

However, while I'd love to see an Anime forum, there's a lot more people on this site that have a negative opinion of Anime rather than of games, so there'd (almost certainly) be heavy trolling, which would always continue, especially when new users come here just to troll.

Having said that, yes, you are right, the first wave of bannings would make most users think twice, but I still believe that an Anime forum would get some of the heaviest trolling, thus necessitating a slightly higher watch, if only for the first few weeks of its creation.

Considering the existing catagories are "Gaming" and "other"... I dont really see why it should get an anime forum before anything else.

As much a fan of anime I am (with over 300 series under my belt)... 90% of anime-related talk on non-specialist forums ALWAYS leads to 10-20 threads about the same aspects of Naruto and Bleach, which is what most of the anime-interested kiddies watch these days, and of which I'm strongly not a fan...

Theres only so many "HAI GUYS WHAT DID U THINK OF NARUTOS NEW EPISODE!!!!! LOLZ" threads I can tolerate. My vote is no... If you want to talk about anime, find an anime forum, not a gaming forum...

I think you would get more Cowboy Bebop and FLCL responses than naruto or bleach, because this site isn't really populated with "kiddies".

On a side note I wouldn't really want to see a whole bunch of "Cowboy Bebop is awesome" threads either.

I mean, we have a gaming forum because this is a site for Gamers...

If we had an anime forum soon people would just be posting anime pictures and videos to get a response, and thats what 4chan was like in its early days...

So I know its slightly moronic logic, but I dont want an anime forum for this reason:

Personally, I will never succumb to watching Anime. I only watch my shows in their respective original languages. If I don't understand that language I don't watch it. Secondly, it's cartoony and idiotic.

One I hate forums which create a forum specificly for anime, yet not create a forum for regular TV shows and movies, there are way more of those then all tose anime shows. I wouldn't say to go so far as to create a subforum for every genre of TV show, but instead of making an anime forum, better make one for the larger group.

A media forum? That's what a lot of us have been suggesting all this time.

As for "succumbing" to watching anime, try Cowboy Bebop. The dub is great, possibly better than the original language, and it isn't "cartoony and idiotic," not that there's anything wrong with that first one. Also the Miyazaki films, that's just obvious.

There are many of us here who like to diversify what series we watch. I myself have a soft spot for romance type anime, I know weird. Those anime fans among us would discuss more than just Naruto and Bleach, and a specific area of the forums would allow fans of the more obscure animes to reach other anime fans. Im reminded of ChromeAlchemist's Noir forum, it went relatively unnoticed since, being posted in the Off-Topic section, reached an audience not suited for the thread. Because of this it received a lot of "Anime is stupid" retards (not unlike this thread). In short a new section would allow for a more focused discussion.

Generally agree with you on anime trolls. A lot of people here seem to really hate all anime and would just post "it all sucks" or something like that. There would need to be a watch for the surprisingly large amount of people who do that.

Oh, I'm not saying it WOULDNT have other series mentioned... I know there's a few genuine fans of the media out there, who genuinly appreicate series for what they are... but when given the option to flourish, things go to pot. "This is why we cant have nice things" and all that.

I've helped to kickstart an anime section on a few torrent forums, which are great at first, you meet some like minded people, each with their own tastes and (good) recomendations... but then you get one *currently-popular-mainstream-crap* fanboy posting about their recent obsessions... then another... then another...

And next thing you know, you're up to your eyes in fanboys and wannabe-japanese

Just because it is from Japan does not mean it is better, it should not even have its own unique name! Canadian animation does not have its own title so why should Japanese?

As far as I'm concerned, Anime is just the japanese word for 'cartoon' and japanophile pricks just started using the term for... whatever reason.

Probably just a convenient word to refer to it separately from western animation.

Yeah, probably, but I think that was the point. Why? We don't have another word for japenese, german, french, australian etc. films. Why is the word 'anime' neccessary here? It just gives a lot of people the impression 'anime' was a genre, which it is not, it's a form of art, like any other cartoon, books, films and even a few video games. Which brings me to another point: how can someone 'hate anime'? There's so fuckin many and they're so fuckin different there's gotta be something you can enjoy.

Well, that'd be a given, it's be under the same rules and everything of The Escapist forums as they are now. Just a separate place for the threads to go and whatnot.

Anime and gaming have a definite intersection of fans. More so when games and anime have cross-overs such as games based on anime shows(Naruto and Ruruoni Kenshin games) and vice versa (like book of Ys).

It happens more often than even movies making it into games so I think it would be nice.

Im not saying that anime fan-boys dont exist, there just seem to be very few of them here. Whenever an anime recommendation thread comes up, 1. theres always hate on Naruto (Bleach gets recommended a few times) and 2. Everyone posts obscure and random anime. I'll reiterate my previous post saying that an Anime board would allow us to reach other fans with a more zeroed in scope. Currently posting an anime thread is like shooting a shotgun, you might hit what your aiming at, but more often your going to his something you dont want to.
