both, mostly subs though, though some times the Japanese language feels off depending on the setting (Claymore, Full Metal Alchemist, Gun Smith Cats, Record of Lodoss War, Spice and Wolf ect ect ect) then i tend to look for the dub, just cause of the thematic fit

I like a good english dub. If the english dub is of dubious quality though, I would truely prefer subs.

It depends on what's better in my opinion. But I will say that I can't really imagine myself watching Hellsing in Japanese w/ English subs. Unless, of course, it isn't dubbed yet *shakes fist*

I don't care how bad the dub is, I will watch it over japanese. Even shenmue 2, god that had some bad voice acting. But that was a game and I don't watch much anime at all.

Every single thing - be it book, movie, game, anime - I try to experience in its original language. Now my first language is Dutch, and the only other language I speak good enough for this purpose is English, so in reality this means a lot of subtitles and - sadly - translated books. NEVER dubs though, dubs are stupid. I can't hear the original language when it's dubbed, and I want to.

has to be original Japanese with subtitles, never seen an anime where i've preferred the dubbed version, the voices are usually awful and don't fit and ruin it

Just watched some clips from Bleach and other animes and was wondering what you guys prefer, the original japanese or english translation.

Personally, i prefer the english dub. Especially when its done really well (Dragonball Z is an example. Vegetas original voice was off the scale for badassness).

I also find it easier to follow rather than relying on subtitles to watch it.
I say subtitles. Japanese VA is usually superior to English dubbed VA.

I prefer the English most times, but it really depends on the anime in question. Or sometimes it depends on what I can get.

EDIT: It also depends on the quality of the voice acting.

There are rare animes I preferably watch in English over Japanese like Midori Days, but I will mainly prefer a sub, even if I really like the dub.

I usually like they Subs in something like a Miyazaki, however if it is done really well(Azumanga Daioh) or nostalgic(G Gundam) I like the dub.

No, no... by all means, kill it with fire. Twice.

OT: I usually go with Subs and Dub all at once. Then again, I know that english dub is almost always inaccurate and sometimes completely changes the flavor of an anime so I sometimes watch in original JP with subs too. I just find a lot of the japanese voice actors to be squeaky and annoying.

Some shows are impossible to watch without subs, others are impossible to watch WITH subs. Like say, Excel Saga, unless you pause to read the paragraph-per-second word barrage that exits Excel's mouth EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY EPISODE. Fun Fact: they went through two voice actresses for Excel porting it to english. I can't remember if only one lost her voice, or if they both did before it was over...

I honestly loved Vegeta's voice in DBZ. Think I saw a Japanese dub version and I freaking hated the Japanese voice. Also, I found that a lot of the villains tended to stand there and make a sound like they were holding the letter "K". If that makes sense...

Anyway, I tend to go with what is available. For example, I'll watch a series dubbed until it no longer has any and then watch the subbed episodes. I have no real preference.

Could you add an option for that in the poll?

I prefer Japanese Subs in most occasions. Although there are some anime that have transfered over to the Western world very well, and as a result their English actors are really good, like Dragon Ball Z.

I don't have a strong preference myself (so long as the english dub has good voice actors), although I prefer subtitles slightly since this is the native language (usually) that the characters speak, and their lips line up with the spoken words.

Should I respect your opinion or shoot you in the head for liking it? I'm weighing my options.

Either way, your not answer the question.

Welcome to te Escapist, don't be dumb.

Really it depends on the series.
shows like Cowboy Bebop and Baccano! have amazing dubs and i personally like them better.
Other shows like Speed Grapher have bad dubs and are better in the original sound track.

Though with shows like Bleach i like some voices in the original and some voices in the Dub.
I agree, it depends on the series. I don't see why we can't have both.

It goes on a per anime basis, for instance mostly the original cast is the best, however there is stuff like Full Metal Alchemist where the voice just better in english.
Whoa. Do you mean Brotherhood or the original...? I'm not sure about Brotherhood (having not seen it) but I totally disagree with that statement if you mean the original FMA series. FullMetal should not be aimed at children, it is an adult series in my opinion. They deal with some pretty heavy stuff, and yet in the English dub every character sounds like they belong in Pokemon.
Sorry for the difference in opinion but I just cannot take any form of media seriously when the voices involved sound so much like a joke
:/
Whose voice sounds like a joke? The only one I can think of that sounds childish is Al's, and that's because when he got stuck in a suit of armor, he pretty much got stuck with the voice of a ten year old, so he's supposed to sound like that. Ed's was done by a girl inn Japanese, so it just sounded really high-pitched there.
In my opinion, just about all of the FMA English dub voices sound absolutely ridiculous. Just watch the first 2 minutes of the first episode: Ed, Al, Winry, Pinako. They sound awful...
