Poll: Anime Subbed or dubbed?

some dubs sound really corny, as if the voice actors didn't really take it seriously

however there are some generally good dub actors in the world (Crispin Freeman and Quinton Flynn spring to mind) and they really make the characters they voice their own

in that respect i'm picking both

nether, really so lone as the show is good i can up up with a crappy dub, but mostly i watch sub, and fan subs at that , why? cause i'm BROKE XD

I always go subbed unless, like Bleach or Naruto, I was first exposed to the dub.

That said, I find it hard, sometimes, to find a good quality sub. The one I got for Code Geass, for example, had no consistency with character names (Levall/Rival, Kallen/Karen, Nunally/Nanaly, etc), and messed up one of the best lines ever.

The line was that great one at the end of the first episode, "Lelouch vi Britannia commands you all...die!

What I got was something along the lines of "You all, who serve Britania, are told by me, Lelouch, to stop living!"

I mean, seriously?

Dubs pretty much completely change the character for Naruto, and I haven't watched Bleach, but I doubt it's much better. As for Code Geass, BAD voice acting except for the T.V. guy. However, Lelouch did have some good moments, as did is father. Charles Di Britannia was awesome was he was telling Lelouch to go to Japan and that he's dead because he was never alive because he's been given everything. Also, Lloyd is awesome for the whole thing.

Subbed. Especially for Dragon Ball. Dear god that dub is terrible. Dragon Ball and GT are fine but the Z dub is just terrible.

Subbed, usually the voices are just terrible when it's dubbed. I can only think of one anime where the English version was better than the original Japanese.

I gotta go dubbed. I prefer hearing things in my native language, and I really only watch the more "western" style anime anyway, and they all have good English voice actors. And Japanese gives me a headache...not the language, but the pitch itself seems kinda different...men seem to have higher pitched voices and such. Small issues, but issues still.

Leaning towards subbed. If a dub is good, then I'll definitely watch it. There are some dubs that I prefer over the original Japanese (Cowboy Bebop, Yu Yu Hakusho, FLCL), but a lot of dubs are grating on the ears.

I'm casting my vote for dubbed.

I do believe subbed can be better since it's not been altered with, but I don't enjoy reading and trying to concentrate on the greater picture above it. So yeah, I prefer dubbed because I'm lazy.

I tend to lose the ability to take an anime seriously after its been subbed. An example would be The Slayers. Bad anime, i know, but it had its moments. Then i heard the subbed voices and i wanted to kill myself.

It doesn't help that several times people from one anime sound like people from another.

It goes into games too. In Brawl, Falco sounds like Joey from yugioh. And its a different voice actor. (To development staff)What the hell guys?

Dubbed. I hate reading subtitles. I just find they go too fast and I miss too much when I'm busy trying to read them.

First anime I ever watched was dubbed and I loved it (Yu Yu Hakusho) but ever since I've watched all animes subbed. Not understanding keeps more mystery to it.

subbed, dubbed feels like a slaughter to the anime and should never have happend, if it dident we wouldent know the likes of bad english dubbing on a grand scale

With DVDs and Blu-Ray, how is this even an issue any more?

I prefer whatever seems more appropriate to the anime in question.
If the characters are not of Japanese descent or aren't currently in Japan, I don't care to watch it in Japanese, especially Berserk and Full Metal Alchemist which take place in otherworldy Europe counter-parts. If the action is set in Japan, then I want to hear it in Japanese(such as Devil Man or Neon Genesis Evangelion). That goes double for anime related to Japanese mythology(Hyper Police or anything done by Hayao Miyazaki).

I prefer dubbed much better than having to quick checking down to see what they're saying....although occasionally the voices irritate the crap out of me

I don't prefer either way, it just depends on the show. Some shows sound better in English, and some sound really stupid in English. A good example of the latter category is Gurren Lagann. After watching a few episodes subbed, then dubbed, the voices just sounded a lot better in the subbed one, even though I couldn't understand it.

Subbing usually gets better performances. But there are exceptions, like with RahXephon and Cowboy Bebop. The japanese tracks for both those anime are really poor by comparison to their English counterparts.

American dubs are usually terrible.

The first time I saw that shit I laughed so hard. So dramatic for no reason. Good show though.

OT:I prefer it dubbed. I do watch it occasionally with the subtitles to see how close the dialogue is, but other than that I like to understand what's going on, even if it is half-assed

I prefer the genuine article. And also, dubbed anime is usually horrible.

I don't really care either way. To me, anime is an escape, where swords and big-breasted prepubescent girls are the norm.
