I love it, but I'm mostly avoiding shonen anime nowadays. They're fairly predictable. Bad guy shows up, they beat him, bigger bad guy kicks their asses, they get stronger to beat him up, rinse and repeat. At the moment, I'm sticking with Slice of Life, Shakugan No Shana, and Gundam.

I haven't paid any attention to syndicated anime for over half a decade. Most of it is just moe-blob garbage or slice-of-life bullshit with the rest not even worth mention due to being so vapid and deprived of originality. You might get 5, maybe 10, decent series yearly if you're lucky or willing to lower the bar.

My problem with Japanime is that 95% of it falls somewhere between Bizarre Jelly 5 and Princess Robot Bubblegum.
Ha! I love these. Off course, these are just parodies of the "moe" anime archetype.
Like any other media, there's a lot of terrible stuff, but there's a lot to like to. Yeah, that's what a lot of people think of when they think of anime, but that's not all there is.

My opinion is that it has some good stuff in it, but the majority of it is garbage, and a lot of the people who label themselves as "fans" are an embarrassment to the sane people who become afraid to admit an interest. Sort of like rap.
This! A thousand times this!

Amongst the majority of my friends, me liking Hip-Hop at age 21 is a joke, because 50 Cent is the extent of their knowledge of the genre. There was a thread on here a while back about some kid who was bitching that he was being dragged to a 50 Cent concert, and although I hate "Fiddy" with a fury that burns like a thousand suns the amount of uninformed Hip-Hop bashing really got on my nerves. (Which is to be expected on a forum with such a high concentration of Metal-Heads I suppose).

Although this does kinda highlight my hypocrisy in hating Anime... Curses.

I don't see what the huge difference between so-called Western shows and anime is. I like some Western shows, I like some Anime. It honestly depends on the show, and the fact that one may have a different animation style or have subtitles doesn't really influence that.

I'm a huge anime fan, probably it started with "Samurai Pizza Cats" even though that was kind of butchered into a kids show. I've loved it ever since though, and got into it deeper with DBZ and Pokemon, and then went on to shows like my favorite, Ruroni Kenshin, or GITS SAC.

I'm mostly indifferent, although I loved Spirited Away. Haven't seen any other decent anime other than that.

I love anime but I get the feeling it kind of peaked about 10 years ago.
My favorite series is Cowboy Bebop.

It seems like most of the stuff that's come out since then isn't that great. There are a few exceptions but I don't follow it all as closely as I used to.

I like it but I don't love it meaning that thinking it's the greatest thing since sliced bread and 1 reason why some people don't like it is because it's over-sexualized

Also; why do Japanese cartoons get their own special name, but cartoons from other countries don't?
so then the 5% is split 3% that are from shouen jump which are mostly over-rated and drag on leaving the other 2% to actual decent shows
plus I think we call Japanese cartoons anime because we want to differ it from our American cartoons (course that's just a hunch)

Anime is one of my hobbies besides computers and Video Games. Ghost In A Shell, Eden of the East (Confusing but a must watch), Cross Game, Naruto Shippuden, Full Metal Alchemist (Both Series) , etc. I can go on for days. Had I known about anime in my High School days, I don't think I would have garduated ahahaha!

I love it Personally and its pretty much the only form of television I watch anymore.
My favorite has to be Code Geass. Death Note is a close second but I lost interest in the show after
L dies really why? he was the best!

in a unrelated issue don't you think the title is a little short I was skeptical this would turn out well when all I saw was "Anime"
I feel the same way, good sir. That incident made me think "Wow, what a finale" but it kept going? Right...

I bet you can guess which one's my favourite

That's right:

Ralph Bakshi American Pop, Fire and Ice. ever heard of them?
Nope, never. Just looked them up on youtube. Those ARE fairly realistic, maintaining proper human proportions and mostly human faces without far too much stylization.
Still, Le Chevalier ranks as fairly close to human proportions, with realistic body-head proportions, and nearly accurate facial structure (no big-eyes).
Well they should look realistic. Ralph Bakshi used rotoscoping, which is basically where animators trace over live-action film movement, frame by frame, to make a movie.

Now then, on topic. Some anime is good and some anime is bad, like all other forms of television and movies.

I know I said this before but I still think it needs to be said again.
The attitude the great majority of anime dislikers are adopting is very similar to the attitude non-gamers adopt towards gamers. How do you feel when the media destroys video games and condemns gamers?
How do you like it when someone who has no effing clue about how all games are not meant to be like Mario or fit for kids, they bust into you when you're playing God Of War and goes raving like "OMG WTF are you doing? Look at all that blood and violence! YOU GAMERS OUGHTA BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES!!! Why in my day we had the good stuff like Pac-man and Tetris, harmless entertainment for the kids, and nowadays kids play this filthy, masturbatory material for juvenile power fantasies! By the way, why the hell are you still playing video games Jimmy? You're 18, you're supposed to have outgrown this stuff by now! Come with me and let's watch the newest episode of Gossip Girl instead of you wasting your time with this thrash..."

Can you see the analogy here?
You can dislike anime as a matter of taste, but for the sake of all that is good in this world don't adopt the same truly uninformed, snotty and biased attitude non-gamers hold against us.
Also, animation is not only a kid's or a masochist's medium. In Japan, animation is the equivalent of live action series in America, and yeah, Japanese live action TV doesn't compare to American live action TV...
No, I can't see the analogy here. I'm saying that I don't like anime because the vast majority of it is a pointless, masturbatory exercise in gratuitous sex and violence (and often sexual violence) that is not redeemed with good writing or production values. I don't think this is in any way comparable to someone saying that there is an explicit sex scene in Mass Effect that you get if you gorily dismember enough authority figures.

I enjoy video games, but I don't do so uncritically. Saying that violent video games don't have any psychological effects on people (not just children) is just as selective, ignorant and ridiculous as saying that video games have a causal effect that turns children into murderers, and when your parents tell you that you should spend less time playing video games, they're probably right.

Anime is like any media...you have to sift through a ton of garbage(stuff that doesn't interest you) to find what you like. I don't like the majority of movies or TV shows that Western media produces, but there was some good stuff produced by it. Not every anime is a horrible degeneration into bad tropes and of the harem variety.

Hellsing
Trigun
Read or Die
Akira
DOGS
Pandora Hearts
Kino's Journey
Baccano!
Case Closed!
Neo Genesis Evangelion
Moblie Suit Gundam(in general)
Excel Saga
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Genshiken
Higurashi no Naka Koro Ni
Miyazaki films
One Piece
Big O (Season 1)
Black Lagoon
Cowboy Bebop
Darker than Black
D. Gray Man
Cromarite High School
Full Metal Alchemist
Kara no Kyokai
Gurren Lagan
Gungrave

I could probably list less live action series that I consider good. I could probably list fewer current movies that I liked. People who complain about the bad ones, need to extend the judgment to their preferred media. :\
