Should we accept a remake of a classic? Or should we demend that the developers get off their asses and put some innovation in their games?

Discuss.

Whats wrong with remakes?

If the game was great to start off with, just add some better graphics and quite a few other tweaks and you have a great game ready for the current gen.

Plus there arnt that many remakes around to get pissed off at them.

I don't mind giving something that was good in the past a fresh coat of paint. Actually there are lots of games I'd like to see in modern graphics. Sometimes a sequel just doesn't cut it.

I don't like developers doing it a thousand times over. *cough*Mario*cough*

This depends, rarely are video game remakes done, and even rarer are they good.

Movies on the other hand can be remade to death

I'm against remakes in general, and remain that way even after having been proven that there can be such a thing as a good remake. But then again, I'm just stubborn.

If the game is remade properly with updates to graphics and gameplay then by all means create it. Revisiting an a previously loved game is a great dose of nostalgia for gamers.

when i voted for "i don't give a shit" i thought of i don't care if they are acceptable, because in my pt of view, a remake should have something else / or fixing bugs... to add to the original piece.

not necesarily new

There needs to be a few things to make a remake acceptable. The first is obviously good quality. It should work properly, and have the gameplay tweaked to erase any goofy behavior in the previous version. The remake must also have additional content. I'd like more from a remake than just a prettier version of the game I already own.

I really don't give a shit if they make remakes or not. But if they do, they need to keep it all there while upgrading graphics and all that jazz. A bad remake is just horrible, an insult to gamers as well as the legacy of the game. Plus, a good remake can help give the new gamers something that they never got to enjoy, say if the game came out twenty years ago.

Yes, as long as a remake actually adds something to the original game, rather than just copy and pasting it. Improved graphics, remastered audio, some extras that weren't in the original. Should it take a very long time to do this? No, so I honestly don't see why both can be done, but that's just me.

I really enjoyed the 360 remake of the N64's "Conker's Bad Fur Day"
...What?!
I really enjoyed a remake
No, no, no, no.

There's a Conker's Bad Fur Day on the X-Box 360?! One where they didn't censor every bit of swearing?!

Why didn't I know of this?

I think remakes are good as long as developers replicate the game-play that was in the original version and keep the story the same.

Poll makes no sense. Try re-wording the question or the answers.
That's what I thought too. I had to reread it several times to get it right.

I reworded in my head this way:
Yes, remakes are acceptable, because the same formula is fine. So don't try and fix it.
No, remakes are not acceptable, because we need something new and fresh. The same formula doesn't cut it.

I think remakes are fine. I would like to play several last generation games on my current gen-console.

I'm against most remakes (both movies and games), but I'm not against the concept of the remake.

Remakes like The Fly and The Thing worked because they were complately different visions of the same story concept; they weren't rehashes with updated effects. I really like Peter Jackson's King Kong, but as a remake it pretty much misses it's mark.

i can think of a few games that would make good re-makes but the developers would never do it cos they are a bunch of lazy pillocks ¬.¬... but im not against re-makes if they are any good

Kind of depends: movie remakes tend to not work at all. If it's a good movie, people won't like 'minor changes', different actors, fancy special effects that weren't there before etc.

Video games: well can be done I guess, also depends on the genre.
