I'm not pre-ordering it, but I am buying it like a boss.

It's just a matter of when. I have my pre-ordering money reserved for a few games I'm absolutely sure about and have been waiting for a long time. Skyrim is new to my radar in relation to my favorites.

That being said, I'm super excited about it -- and that's saying a lot considering I know nothing of the franchise it's built on.

Hmmm, probably not. I'm poor and totally out of the Oblivion universe. I don't know if Skyrim would be a good first game to buy into.
You should definitely give it a try, it isn't without faults, hell it has quite a few, but despite those the games are really fun. If cost is an issue then but you are still wanting to get into The Elder Scrolls. I would suggest starting with Oblivion. Although Morrowind is (in my opinion) far superior, I think Oblivion was much more accesible to newer players which I don't resent as it meant that many more people who would have otherwise never experienced it got to play the games without wanting to rip their skulls off. It won't be too expensive when Skyrim comes out and that way if you like it you can buy Morrowind or Skyrim. I got morrowind like 7 years ago in a bargain bin for $20 haha. So I can't imagine it will lighten your wallet too much now days.

ehhh i hated oblivion so Ill think about it

I dont how invested I can get into the "YOU ARE THE CHOSEN ONE" thing
Haha this is quite funny because I loved Oblivion but I had a similar issue with the chosen thingo that they love to play with. You'd be surprised how much there is to the game that has nothing to do with it though. I have played like a heap on Oblivion and haven't even come close to beating the main mission. Just love messing around with all the side quests.

OT: Yes I will get Skyrim. I have some extremely high expectations and graphics alone won't be enough to win me, so far I like what I've seen but if it is anything less then my favorite game of all time I probably won't be happy haha

Yeah most likely. Seems pretty good, although i wasn't overly impressed by the leveling in oblivion. So long as they surgically remove that crappy system and transplant the fallout style leveling, it'll be just dandy.

If I don't get Skyrim the circumstances will most likely be;
-I died and the afterlife didn't exist.
-the afterlife didn't provide Skyrim.
-Promptly suing the afterlife but failed.
-Launching a rebellion against the administrators of said hypothetical afterlife failed.
-I were called to go to the province of Skyrim to stop Alduin in real life.

Yes, I fully intend to get Skyrim 11.11.14 when its got GoTY, all its DLC has been released and its dropped in price an appropriate amount.

I hate to say it, but Bethesda is seemingly pushing their launch schedule to Activision levels. So after buying F3, and Oblivion, and as soon as they stop releasing DLC for NV Ill need a decent break from Bethesda RPGs for a while. Ill get it. Im sure it will be a good game, but I am more than a little bit burnt out on bethsda.

Oh fuck yes. The day Skyrim was announced, I let out a loud gasp, squeeled, started bouncing, clapped my hands at a dangerously high velocity, then ran through my house shouting: YES! FINALLY! FINALLY! YES!! FUCK YES!!!

erhm...so yeah, I will be getting this particular virtual experience.

Where is the poll?

And the answer is: No. I won't be buying Skyrim. I won't be buying it, because while I have played Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion, I end up being overwhelmed at the scope of the game and giving up. I need a little bit of linearity in my games, and these games are far, far to open.

the thing about threads like this is you're more likely to get people that are inclined to get it already, and anyone else that comes in is probably on the other side, they wouldn't get it anyway and are going to tell you all the whiny reasons
OT: no, I don't care much for RPGs, unless they're rocket-propelled grenades

...Wow i went on a rant...so...Are you getting skyrim?
One single paragraph hardly qualifies as a rant on these forums. Anywho, I'll get Skyrim, but not immediately--I want to wait until there is absolute verification of modding capability before I consider buying it. Personally, I enjoyed Oblivion, but only after I got mods for it. The combat was somewhat functional, if quite bland...okay, I didn't really like the combat, but the feeling of a large open world was definitely there...a large open world consisting of copy-pasted forests tha--okay, okay, I'm heading on the same road you did now with your opening post.

Anywho, Skyrim will be 'safe'. It's not going to carry the combined impact of Neverwinter Nights, Dragon Age and Fable all combined into one god-like fantasy game, but it will be quite functional. It will have design principles that mainly appeal to console gamers, but which will be adjusted for PC gamers in an at least functional fashion. For the unique adventure experience that PC gamers crave, it'll likely take modifications.

So I'm going to wait. Not necessarily for a price drop--if I see the rise of the modding community, I'll give it a go. I'd love to join the modding community from the start and help build the game, but I've been so disappointed with recent game releases that I'm not willing to pay full price for a game I only hope will actually be enjoyable. I'd rather verify the entertainment factor before committing $50--or as lately has been the case, $60 dollars for a video game.

I will buy it when it goes down in price. As much as I love TES, I just haven't got much money.
