I vote for Wrath as I joined towards the end of TBC and never experienced its endgame content apart from the odd rampage through a raid in fully kitted up level 80s, which kinda defeated the challenge.

It feels like expansions killed the community, but maybe that's just exclusive to my server.

Don't even get me started on the fucking gearscore addon.

If only Warcraft 3 was to Warcraft 2 what Starcraft 2 is to Starcraft.

I enjoyed Classic WoW most, mainly because everything was new and shiny and exciting for me.
Burning Crusade was horrible horrible horrible.
Wotlk was much better again. Blizzard really knows how to improve the best MMORPG.

(Quality of WoW: Wotlk>>>Classic>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Burning Crusade)
(Fun I had with WoW: Classic >>>>>>>>>> Wotlk >>>>>>>>>>Burning Crusade)

Definetly Burning Crusade. That was the highpoint for my raiding time. I managed up to Black Temple before Wrath of the Lich King came.

Hard to say, I've been playing WOW on and off again since the Beta. Really enjoyed Vanilla, I remember first the Southshore vs. Tarren Mill thing, and later day long AV matches. Hell, I remember when Archbishop Benedictus had a brief stint as Human faction leader. Loved exploration especially, and when WOW was still new it was the proverbial 'land of opportunity' since there was no wowhead or thottbot to tell everyone where everything was and how to do everything. Used to wall-walk and glitch the game to sneak places I wasn't supposed to all the time as well, you'd be amazed how much content from later expansions was already in the game from the start, and quite a bit of the stuff I saw still hasn't been used (if it ever will be!). Youtube Nogg-Aholic for a taste of what that was like.

But then again when TBC came out is also the only time I've ever really been a 'regular' player since that was when a friend of mine as well as myself were both in a good, fun guild. Had a lot of fun with them! Anyone who says raiding can't be entertaining has just never been with a good group. Only time I've ever been even remotely close to 'hardcore' in WOW.

Hmm... vanilla or TBC? Not that wrath wasn't good, just I haven't spent nearly as much time playing since it was released.

Gonna go with TBC, just because it's behind right now in the poll.

My first experience with WoW was a few months before TBC came out... finding the world for the first time was great - I'm nocturnal, and wandering Dun Morogh with my gnome at night had a certain serenity about it. It just felt... nice. I guess that's my favourite period of Azeroth, but from a gameplay perspective, as someone who mainly rerolls alts rather than levels extensively, wrath is my favourite, as you level nice and quickly now, and you get a nice constant infusion of loot. Plus, with the non-original-WoW zones, like Nagrand and Howling Fjord, the game gets prettier as you go. Honestly, every time I get a new character to outland I still lose a few minutes just staring at the sky.

Have you played the beta?
That and looked at all the fourms for the other classes *have an 80 lock warrior and rouge* and to me at least looks like there talking all the skill out of it all the passives and only 31 skill points per 85 lvls W.T.F.
actually its 41 points for 85 levels. one point every 2 levels at odd numbered levels such as 11, 13, 15, etc.

I've got a paladin myself and they are making it more of a challenge to play them with the new holy power mechanic they've installed. Mean pallies actually have a closer resemblance to a rotation somewhat. Plus what you arnt getting is that its still beta, there isnt even a release date yet. They are still rebalancing classes and characters.

Wrath. Would've had more fun if 1337 raiders didn't ruin the endgame for me though.

I'd have to go with Wrath for the simple reason that I love the art direction in Northrend. I loved the other periods of WoW too, but I prefer Wrath because of what they did with the quests and their awesome use of phasing.

Also, I hate to say it, but inb4 people who don't play WoW making irrelevant comments about how stupid the game is.

I was tempted to say Vanilla since that's what I started with. But honestly going back and revisiting Old Azeroth while working on my Loremaster reminded me how badly designed some of that Old world really is.

Why doesn't Ghostwalker post not have an inn or a flightpath? There's no good reason why I should have to hike my ass across the entire Desolace zone just to get to the actual town.

Ungoro crater is still an unnavigable nightmare the less said about Azshara the better.

So I'm gonna go with WotLK.
There's always something to do, the instanced zones flesh out the world, the expanded lore is great and Rep grinding isn't the nightmare it was before. It's still a challenge but there's more to do than just kill enemy X for 10 rep per kill and then turn in 20 of their items for 250 rep.

Slightly offtopic, but how was the lore ruined exactly, and what does "Herocraft" even mean?

Burning Crusade for me. The Warcraft 2 expansion campaigns were my favorites, and it was awesome seeing Khadgar and the old fighting locations from a one-person perspective (alá third-person-game, I mean)

Honestly, i have no idea. When i first played WoW, Stormwind had a dead dragon tied up and hanging over the entrance. Both factions had recruitment officers and were pestering players for resource, and the dreini and blood elves were very few in number. It was pretty awesome.

about a year later; I get myself a new trial, and thats all gone...
slightly less awesome...

I can only speak for myself, but some of the retconning that goes into the story in WoW does tend to set some people on edge.

One of the most notable examples being the Draenei being an uncorrupted offshoot of the Eredar that had been living on Draenor before the Burning Legion corrupted the Orcs.

Personally I have to admit I'm a little peeved at their current lore twisting by including Mages as a playable class for the Night Elves. It completely flies in the face of everything the Night Elves back story was based on.
I'm not even an Alliance player and that kinda ticks me off a bit.

I still say Vanilla WoW was better, and for one major reason, open world PvP. Back when I started playing the game Areans and BGs hadn't come out yet, and everywhere you went the world was filled with tons of players doing their thing.

The world just felt a lot more vibrant, recently when I played I was saddened to see nothing but ghost towns everywhere I went. I was a major Pvper, and back then there was this thrill of the hunt and thrill of being hunted every time you stepped into zones like STV and Hillsbrad.

Now you find nothing but a mass of level 80s all epiced out sitting infront of a battlemaster waiting for Q.

Boring!

I see your point, I suppose.

And eh, the guy that contacted Tyrande about letting magi into elven society was Highborne (that is to say, not a traditional Night Elf as people know them ingame at the moment) which suggests the magi might also be Highborne. Game mechanics and story are two different things. The Tauren Paladins aren't Paladins in the story - just in the mechanics.

As a roleplayer on Earthen Ring-EU for five years now, I've yet to be disappointed at Blizzard's storyline choices myself.

OMG UR GS IZNT 5.7K U CANT COM 2 ICC CAUSE U NOOB LOL. GS MAEKS UR PENOR BIGGER

*ahem* Excuse me.

OT: Probably a mix between vanilla and wrath. Vanilla had much less of an air of competition in it. Maybe thats because I wasnt really focusing on raiding back then, but Wrath has become so much more streamlined.

Seriously, you hit 80. You farm heroics and do weekly raid quests. Then if you've actually learned to play your class, you run ICC. If you havent learned, you troll trade until Cataclysm comes out and lets you have another shot.

Though I had the most fun with other people over the course of Wrath.

GS is simply something idiots use because they don't have the skills to actually play. All gearscore shows is that someone got lucky in loot rolls. Nothing more.

I was a scrub in vanilla. Still it gets my vote. Things were better before the blood elf tide washed in and left a mountain of alliance skeletons as it washed out.
