Yes they have every right to do it. It's now a historical event. We make games about WWII don't we? How would this be different?
how about a game where you have to hijack some planes and ram some certain high buildings with them then? historic event, right?

as for the thread: well, what the guys before me said. plus that it's obviously a nice way to cement a picture very positive towards the u.s. in this whole affair, if accurate or not nobody will remember. everybody will think: that's the way it happened.
Yes how about that? I'd play it if it looked like a well designed game. Should we just pretend it didn't happen? That any inclusion of something about 9/11 was crossing the line? The way I view these things is that you can make a game about ANYTHING YOU WANT. Doesn't mean it will sell well, but you shouldn't be stopped for making it.
i agree as far as that i would not oppose it if the game in question would be well designed and handle the critical issue maturely and in a sensible way.
what we have here though is obviously just the attempt to make some quick profit with some shoddy game that in all probability will distort the truth vigorously.

so where to draw the line? there was this once economy game once, named "concentration camp manager". and it was exactly what it says on the tin. i think we can agree that this kind of thing is not cool^^ hard to find a good middle ground..
The only thing I can say is that I feel EVERYTHING should be fair game and it once again comes back to the individual. If you don't like it, then don't play it.
it's not only that i wouldn't like to play a game where i manage a concentration camp, i utterly resent the idea of such a travesty existing!

and sorry if that sounds offensive, but i believe if you think that it's fine that there is a game that tries to sell the player the genocide of millions of innocents as a good and desirable thing, then you need professional help.
Why thank you for that medical assessment. I'll be sure to take it into account.

On topic: Yes YOU don't like it, so of course it shouldn't exist. I don't like seafood, so by that logic I should be pandered to and have it removed from existence.
no, you don't get it, not one bit. seafood is not my kind of thing, but if some people like it, they should have it.
however,

I think you could make a very interesting and moving game out of that idea.
of course one could make an actually good game out of it, there is a lot of potential for deep characters and such, emotional fuel by showing the unimaginable horrors..i was refering to some old game that pretty much without an ounce of irony sold the whole holocaust as a good idea.
No I'm not saying it's a good thing. What I'm saying is that just because it's a bad thing, that isn't reason enough for it not to exist.
so..you are saying that there is nothing wrong with it. (promoting and advertising the holocaust and millions of murders as a good thing.) as i said^^
As I said above. It's not a good thing. BUT that doesn't mean it shouldn't exist!
and that is becaaaaause...?

(i'm really curious now. what, WHAT could possibly warrant the existence of something so horrible and damaging like that game)
OK so this game you think the world has no need of should be burnt from existence. Much like all the books the Nazi's burnt yes?
you failed to respond to the question.

and further there is a difference between burning books with content that is undesirable for your evil system and banning a game that advertises just this evil system and violates the rights of men. the books the nazis burned didn't harm anyone. this game in question promotes hatred, murder, intolerance and injustice.
is it really that hard to gasp that promoting and calling for hatred, murder, intolerance and injustice should not be allowed?
how old are you, if you don't mind me asking?

That'd be like if the Soviets made a video game allowing you to step into the shoes of Lee Harvey Oswald when he shoots JFK.

Of course, this is America, so it's probably going to be a huge hit. Whoo-pee.

Eh, I think it's stupid and going to be a terrible game, but I don't see anything wrong with it other than the sheer stupidity of rushing a game out just to commemorate an enemy's death. Believe it or not, you don't need to make a video game for everything. We already have to have Bin Laden's death pounded into our heads by every other media source, why do we need a video game coming out and yelling "OMG WE KILLED OSAMA!!!!" We killed him, he's dead, let's move on. It doesn't change the fact that every son of a ***** that followed him still wants to kill us.

This is awesome, who wouldn't want to shoot Bin Laden in the face? Still, I hope Kuma has awesome security systems cause this is going to piss off a whole pile of terrorist-inclined Muslims. They rioted over a cartoon, what do you think they would do for making light of the death of their leader.

"At Kuma, we are sensitive and respectful of American and coalition soldiers and the sacrifices they are making every day."

What a crock of shit.

These people aren't respecting the troops, they're making a quick buck off a still-warm corpse.

This isn't tasteless because it's a video game; it could be a game, a book, a movie, a TV series, even a play; it would still be tasteless.

And it's going to be so, so terrible. That's just salt in the wound.

Tasteless is ok, just as long as I get to play the SEAL that gets to yell, "BOOM, HEADSHOT!!!".

I feel the same way about it that I felt about JFK: Reloaded. It's just a game. Granted this Osama game will probably be a shitty flash game if it's been thrown out in a week.

Because we were making video games about WWII a week after it ended, right? No.

OT: Sounds interesting. Though it is probably going to just be a rushed game that isn't worth picking up.
Yeah, it's going to be bad in every way imaginable I'm sure. I certainly won't buy it at least.

Firstly, I believe it's going to be unbelievably shitty, knocking a game out in about 2 days doesn't scream 'A+ quality' to me.

Secondly, it's just mindless bandwagon jumping and profiteering, like a movie licence for Fox News devotees.

Thirdly, what's going to happen when people realise you can lose in the game, and the game lets Bin Laden and his allies kill Americans? Surely it's going to be '6 Days of Fallujah' all over again.

Except 6 Days of Fallujah I actually believe showed some level of respect to the troops involved.

Sure, make a comedy flash game, where you capture Bin Laden, jam a grenade in his mouth, cut his head off with one of their own beheading swords, then kick it into a mosque for bonus points, if you just want to be tasteless and headline grabbing, but please don't waste good discs making this a real retail release.

I think what most of us here would be most offended about is that there's another 'quick buck' shitty cash in game coming, we'll be just as offended about the next Shrek game, I expect.

Meanwhile 6 Days In Fallujah will never be released.
You make a very good point I think its a big shame that got cancelled seeing as if it was well done it could have actually helped legitimatise gaming as a medium that is fit for exploring more mature real life situations in a respectful way.

What the fuck is wrong with people these days? Seriously... that it just disgusting.
I understand the guy was a terrorist and a despot, but at least have some respect for the dead.
Hitler was an arsehole sure, but he was an intelligent guy and had some good ideas too, despite being one of the worst dictators in history.

I really don't care WHAT people do to get their 15 minutes in the sun on this.
