I use hollow points.

Aren't they, ya know, illegal? I see no reason to have hollow points, in a self defense case, what more good is a bullet that shreds a man's insides gonna do? That just mean's he'll die faster but generally speaking if you shoot a man they're gonna stay down. All hollow points do is kill him quicker, not good.

I live in the US so no, they are not illegal.

I would rather the guy die than have him have the chance to shoot back at me.

Yeah, because the shredded insides are really gonna have any sort of effect on something that happens in a spilt second. Shoot him with a regular bullet and then ensure that the weapon is out of his hand.

A bullet is meant to kill. A hollow point just makes sure that it does it's job more effectively. You do not shoot someone to wound them, you shoot them to kill them before they kill you.

Well it's pretty clear to me that you're a psychopath. Possibly one of the many children of the fear infected America. It is clear that you really don't understand the physical implications of death but merely see your own life as more valuable of anyone attacking you. While it is understandable that a person could incapacitate another to protect themselves, the killing of another is just too far.

Anyway, hollow points are more effective at tearing through flesh (the top splits open and increases surface area of the bullet so more damage is done, best used on the skull because it provides a hard surface to open the hallow point then lots of brainz).

As for the rounded vs. sharp bullets argument, most all bullets are deformed on impact with just about anything solid (walls, people, floors, etc) so any rebounding will be randomly decided by the amount of deformation and may even shatter. (Hallow points have this tendency to do that too, resulting in multiple smaller bullets in your body...) So the bullets are pulverized into a (mostly) indistingushable pulp on contact with mosst things (because of the extreme speed involved). So sharp vs round has a negligable effect on penetration because of the fragility of bullets and their speed.

Hollow point please so that it mushrooms and tears them to shreds. Although to be honest I know nothing about guns seeming as I don't live in a nation that allows you to have them in the first place. I guess that's a good thing looking at the Gun death rate in America.

As it's after 2:30 in the morning I will not be writing 5 pages comparing the various types of ammunition. Instead I will simply say I like the "pointy" variety better for long range as they tend to be more aerodynamic. Also I fail to see the point in anything banning a type of bullet. War is hell, people need to accept that you can't change that. War sucks, people get hurt and killed, and until we can replace everyone on both sides with robots it will stay that way.

Law enforcement use them as it has greater incapacitaion rates and less chance of hitting bystanders with rounds that emerge from the body.

It's only illegal for military forces to use the rounds against other military forces that have also signed the Hague Accords. It is perfectly alright for military forces to engage insurgents, terrorists, etc. with weapons, bullet, and "techniques" banned under the Hague Accords.

yeah, it's war...they don't start with a referee saying "I want a good clean fight..."

but this thread is a waste. only people that hunt or fire weapons in real life have a say, really. I dont play socom and say "gotta love them hollow point rounds!". I do hunt, but I use whatever my dad gives me. Pretty sure they're soft point, though, I don't think I've really seen much else (or that's the only thing he buys)
