It is an optional purely cosmetic procedure. It is only done because of old fashioned religious ideas, is child abuse and mutilation.
Male circumcision for religious or medical reasons? No problem with that. But I don't get why you would circumcise your baby for any reason other than that. It got put there by evolution (or God if you believe in that) for a reason after all. [small]Then again we also have appendices for some reason...[/small]

female circumcision shouldn't even be mentioned. it's not circumcision, it's outright mutilation. it doesn't just eliminate the ability of a woman to orgasm, it completely eliminates their ability to enjoy sex at all.

The big problem I have is when people throw around the "Fact" that there is a loss of pleasure with a circumcised penis.....how the hell do they know? Are circumcised men incapable of having orgasms? Are they suddenly unwilling to have sex because it doesn't feel good?
HELL NO. It's just a myth anti-circumcision people throw around.
I personally am all for it. It's easier for cleaning, helps protect against infection and for god's sake it's NORMAL. I've known way too many women who balk at an uncircumcised penis. I don't want my son to go through that. You do it as a baby, there's no memory of the event.

I totally agree with the OP's thoughts on the matter; what a rational adult does with their own body is their own buisness , but what some adults decide to do to their children is sick. Let them make their own decisions when they're old enough to think for themselves, sexual performance and STD resistance isn't going to affect them when they're five is it?
This is something I don't get, America and the UK will go to war with third world countries to protect their citizens against the horrors performed by the dictators (and totally not just for oil) yet they let their own citizens chop up children? Babies? Hell I hate babies; I think they're noisy, smelly, annoying and a massive waste of money, but they're still human and they'll still grow into someone perfectly capable of choosing which bits to chop off, and perfectly capable of wishing that their parents hadn't chosen for them.

As I recall, this study was fairly dubious. Do you have the link at all? I couldn't find it, just that it seemed like bumpkis when I first heard it.awesomeClaw said:

How can you say that you are aware that female circumcision has "MUCH" more severe consequences, but that you think that male circumcision is just as bad?
Do you have any reason, at all, to think that? Or can I safely reject your claim that it is "just as bad" as subjective bullshitting?
For the record, if we were going to compare evil female castration to something similar in males, it would probably be bobbing the entire tip of the penis off in dudes. That would achieve a similar effect. And that would also be much more abhorrent than removing the foreskin, which is a non-issue.
I usually think unless there is a medical need e.g. recurring urinary infection or that thing where the skin hardens then it should be left until the person is old enough to make the decision themselves.

I've never been circumcised, and I don't plan on ever having it done. I can't stand the idea of the pain... But everyone I know is circumcised, and it makes it weird. I'm considered a freak...
That really depends where you live. In the UK it's relatively rare to be circumcised compared to the US. As someone who lives in the UK, I just think circumcised penises look really weird, and to be quite honest, if I were faced with one, I wouldn't be entirely sure what to do ...JaredXE said:

Every culture has its awful little traditions, be they slavery, spousal abuse, xenophobia (common) or all the way up to the extremes of murder cultures. Just because something is an old tradition and a cherished one doesn't mean it isn't a bad idea.
