I've never been circumcised, and I don't plan on ever having it done. I can't stand the idea of the pain... But everyone I know is circumcised, and it makes it weird. I'm considered a freak...
They're projecting their shame onto you. They know they cannot have it undone. If anything there the people with the body modifications are freaks.
Disagree.

Uncircumcised cock is pretty gross imho.

THELL NO. It's just a myth anti-circumcision people throw around.

I personally am all for it. It's easier for cleaning, helps protect against infection and for god's sake it's NORMAL. I've known way too many women who balk at an uncircumcised penis. I don't want my son to go through that. You do it as a baby, there's no memory of the event.
The science is in, chopping off the major pleasure centers of the penis reduces the sensation experienced. Does the average victim notice? No, they've lived with the reduction all their lives. Hell, I was born without a sense of smell, I don't feel any 'effects' because I've never whiffed anything in my life. It's as hard to explain what a normal sexual encounter should feel like to a circumcision victim as it is to explain color to a blind man... or scent to me, in fact. I'd call the idea that women prefer scarred genitals and avoid the uncut ones far more mythic in quality.

Genital mutilation upon the unwilling is bad. That's what child circumcision is. Every culture has its awful little traditions, be they slavery, spousal abuse, xenophobia (common) or all the way up to the extremes of murder cultures. Just because something is an old tradition and a cherished one doesn't mean it isn't a bad idea.
indeed.

If it was done to the girls it'd be banned by law in many countries. I think the fact that it's only done to the boys nor that it's as risky makes it acceptable. It's a socially backward custom, the same as ritual scarring and it deserves to go the same way.... out the window.

No offense, but while we share the same viewpoint you're a little too confrontational. As long as this thread remains a discussion, nothing's wrong with having this talk. When you enter into penis-related dirt-slinging such as;

You've gone to a dark place. Let's not turn this into a perceived superiority contest.

I don't really have a preference or opinion...but the logic I go by is that if it was so bad, we'd have evolved so it doesn't exist. While it is useful in some respects I'm still firm in the belief if it's really that bad then nature would have found a way around it to let the species survive.

However I also believe in Kharma, so I dunno if it is more deadly uncircumcised it will probably be mother nature screaming WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MY BEAUTIFUL OZONE!?!

Female circumcision is completely different from male circumcision. The removal of the clitoris is a vile disgusting act akin to cutting off the penis entirely. Anyone defending THAT can fuck off.

I was hoping he'd take away from this that there are people who do not AT ALL share his perception.

I don't see it as a superiority contest... I do get a little irked when I see someone being robbed of a very important choice, and then defending the acting of taking it away. Its like stockholme syndrome, its their coping mechanism.

... and I am dark.

oh and do you not think he should read the lottery?

I had to have it done for the medical reason mentioned by the original poster and my informed opinion based on first hand experience is: Don't get it done during puberty! It hurts ALOT, makes you walk funny and really knocks your confidence around women.

On the brightside it makes things look bigger, which is handy.

No-brainer.

In men :

Only on children for medical reasons. Anything else (including and especially for primitive religious reasons) is basically child abuse / genital mutilation (but hey, the religious generally have no problem with child indoctrination so I doubt that they have a problem with this further imposition of their primitive superstitions on their progeny either).

For adults who chose to with a full understanding of the pros and cons of course.

In women :

Again only for medical reasons. Actually I'm not sure whether it *is* recommended for medical reasons. I'm not too knowledgeable about this. Outside of that, I doubt adult women would voluntarily chose it...

Oh and by the way, 'normal' is dependent on cultural context. In Europe for instance, circumcision is no where near as prevalent as in the US...

- It's genital mutiliation!
- Uncircumcised looks weird!
- Loss of sexual pleasure (cite dubious study)!

...and so on ad nauseam. I'm a little confused as to why OP included FGM, or why two people voted for it. I have a feeling they're not too clear on what it is.

It's one piece of skin...all you people are getting way to freaking worked up about it. I'm circumcised; seems a hell of a lot nicer than being uncircumcised...and it looks nicer

EDIT: I have to state that this is my opinion. Otherwise I will end up getting flamed too all hell. I'm not looking for an argument people.

I was circumcised and I've never have any problems. My whole family has been circumcised for generations, and never had problems. I see no reason to NOT circumcise.

About the time I hit puberty I was introduced to this argument. As a reasonable person (as reasonable as a hormone driven teenager, anyway) I practically shit a brick.

I'm circumcised. I didn't really think about it until I heard the argument that it deadens the nerves in the penis.

For a decade I was ashamed of myself (why, I don't know. I didn't choose the be circumcised, after all). My self-confidence was somewhere in the lower decimals and I was horrified of sexual encounters for fear of being ridiculed.

Then I had sex with lovely woman who was vacationing in the States from Britain. She didn't mention the circumcision thing at all.

You know what I found out?

Sex is awesome.

Leave it at that and move on.

It's the latest craze. The ladies love it!
I'll take one!
Hey, put me down for two!
I'm game. How's it done?
It's a snap.
I take my machine here, I take your little thing, I put it through this hole, and then...

I nip the tip! Whose first?

... Why is this such a heated debate? Who the fuck cares? I got circumcised as a baby and I really couldn't give a shit. I can't compare having sex without it so I can't complain. Besides, my gf really likes it so... I say its worth it.

And a lot of my female friends say they would rather give a circumcised guy a blow-job.

Heh, you defeated your own argument.

Evolution does not produce objectively good designs. It produces functional designs with what it is given. For instance, exterior testicles are shitty, shitty design, most animals, and most mammals for that matter, have interior testicles. But it's what evolution had to work with when it came to Humans.

Your God-did-it argument is a little more sound, but then again Yahweh hates foreskins so I guess it doesn't apply broadly there either.
Heh, I know; I'm my own worst enemy. Exterior testicles is a shitty design, true. I seem to recall reading somewhere they're on the outside so they don't overheat or something? I dunno, my memory is sucky...

And I never understood why God/Yahweh/Allah hates foreskins; I mean, He/She MADE foreskins. Did He make a mistake? But God is omnipotent etc, so He doesn't make mistakes.

Argh. See, this is why I don't do religion.

Still. I stand by what I said, self-defeated though I am. *stubborn stance*

Darkness and coping aside (I agree, incidentally), it's phrases like 'It's their' and 'they're projecting their shame' that turn talking into shouting. Whether or not these statements are true, them's fightin' words.

I frankly find this whole thing about male circumcision quite overblown. It has little if any effect either way so it is not such a big deal.
