Poll: Circumcision - What is your opinion?

I got mine because I'm genetically pron to getting a priapism and my grand-father was a outdoors person, who hoped I would be. He paid for mine and all my cousin's when we were born because he had to get the surgery at 50.

If there's no reason for it, I don't see why someone should get a circumcision. Though, this "wait till they're old enough to decide" thing isn't smart, either. I had a circumcision at 16, because I had phimosis, and the following two weeks were the worst of my life. IF one must get a circumcision, it should be when they're a baby, but only with reason.

I don't think it's necessarily bad, and sometimes people can require it because their foreskin is too tight, but doing it just for the hell of it seems a little unnecessary.

I frankly find this whole thing about male circumcision quite overblown. It has little if any effect either way so it is not such a big deal.

Idealism is why people get upset about this, even if it has insignificant physical effects, its still being robbed of a choice about ones body, which then makes people (imo) more inclined to take that choice away from their children. I find this is horrible cycle of spite.

Aside from that, I just think that anything to do with your own body that isn't absolutely necessary for your survival until a point where you can make the decision yourself should be considered a crime. I just don't see how people can argue this point. It's just perfectly reasonable - you do what you want with your own stuff. Just like I can decide on what to do with any of my other possessions.

But, there are plenty of examples of animals that have higher body temperatures than us, who have internal testicles, i.e. all birds.

And really, considering that exterior testicles put all of your evolutionary fitness on in a sensitive and exposed package which is easily attacked isn't really indicative of great design, no matter what they happen to do well functionally.

Anyway, exterior testicles, the more you know.

I think it should be a personal choice, and not a parental choice, but that's as far as I go.

Female circumcision however, that seems to be all about just hacking anything off that might let a woman enjoy sex and therefore somehow 'stop her cheating', I can't get behind that.

... Why is this such a heated debate? Who the fuck cares? I got circumcised as a baby and I really couldn't give a shit. I can't compare having sex without it so I can't complain. Besides, my gf really likes it so... I say its worth it.

And a lot of my female friends say they would rather give a circumcised guy a blow-job.

Wht I don't get is why female circumcision is considered a horrible form of mutilation and abuse (It is, realistically, but that's a different matter), and should not be performed ever.

Well, time for another dilemma, folks! How do you feel about circumcision? Is it good? Bad? Should it be legal? No? Yes?

Personally, i think i´ll weigh the pros and cons against eachother.

PROS:

Easier to clean.
Lasts longer (during sex)
Reduces risks of some diseases.

CONS:

Loss of about 40-50% pleasure during sex.
More prone to certain diseases.

Now i don´t know about you, but i think we can call this a 50/50 descision, right? It all comes down to what matters the most for you.

But the thing is, that PARENTS can make the descision in many countries, which i think is abhorrent and simply put, wrong, since the practice is irreversible. And if you say "Oh but it can be restored" no, it can´t, not entirely. It can be HEALED, but not restored.

Circumcision is only valid for ONE reason before one hits maturity, and that is a medical condition where the foreskin is to tight around the penis and must be loosened up.

So, my opinion is: If you´re an adult and want to, then fine, good for you. If you´re an adult and you´re about to circumcise a kid, screw you.

What about you?

BONUS DISCUSSION: I find it quite amusing how many people there is that say: "Male circumcision is fine, but Female circumcision is EVUUUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLL!" I want to ask them a question. Do you believe in equality towards both genders? If yes, shouldn´t male/Female circumcision be just as bad/good as the other?

(For the record, i am aware that female circumcision has MUCH more severe consequences, and i believe it is just as wrong as male circumcision, but this just bugs me. Why scream out for equality when you don´t want it?)

While, in both cases, you're getting rid of a very erogenous area, female circumcision is nothing short of genital mutilation.

Also, I think people should be able to choose. It doesn't really seem fair to make someone do it without consent. Let them choose.

Side Note: If it wasn't done to people at birth, I think it would be widely considered to be a disgusting practice, which it really is.

That area of the body is home several major arteries, meaning it's very warm and very vulnerable. Even if you positioned the testes in the groin, a wound there is a serious and life-threatening injury. Basically, the reason humans have the danglers is because that entire area is poorly put together. Once you stand up, you can defend yourself a lot better... and you need to, because now your hips are now like the big glowing spot on every Zelda boss.

Cutting quality, and indeed functionality, to increase (supposedly) quantity is largely considered a bad move in the context of sex. If I took the steering wheel out of a car I wouldn't be glad with how long it took me to pick up a loaf of bread.

Evolution doesn't think.

It works with what it has already, and the cards it gets dealt.

So if it's got a mouse with some internal nuts, and a mutation gives a mouse with external nuts, and the external nuts can get totally huge and increase the amount of sperm, giving that mouse a leg up in sperm competition, then evolution will roll with that.

And then if something new comes out of the big external nut mouse, and that has an advantage, then evolution will roll with that, even if the new thing would work better with the nuts back inside.

Not matter how many mice get their nuts damaged.
