Really the only kind of game that should sell a console is one with infinite replayability (read: multiplayer). I'm not sure about most people, but once I finish the single player I go right to the multiplayer and that's what makes a game memorable to me. After the missions are done and the dust is settled, I will forget the boss battle in stage two.. but the time I threw a knife across the map and stabbed someone in the eye... that will be forever imprinted in my memory.

I got my 360 for Gears of War, Mass Effect and Halo 3 in the future, got my PS3 for Killzone 2, which I kind of regret, but would have gotten it for Demon;s Souls as well.

Anyways, the question of "will there be any" doesn't apply, there has already been several. You not seeing them as such doesn't change that.

Heaps of people bought PS3s for MGS4, same goes for Halo 3 (for the Xbox 360, retard).

if it were truly awesome, but you forget the other person would come away with a perfectly servicable console as well...

The one game that's making me think about getting a PS3 is God of War III. I went with the 360 at the time because most the games I wanted to play were multi console and it was cheaper. Thinking about it, I don't think I have a single game for 360 that isn't on PS3 or the PC. Not a fanboy, I go with price, but I think I'll wait to get a PS3 until I see more than one game I'd like to play.

Even with the Gamecube I bought it with Smash Brother's Melee, but I was also looking forward to Eternal Darkness, the new Zelda and Metroid games, and the Resident Evil remake. I can't see one single game making me fork out several hundred dollars.

Well, I got my PS2 for Contra: Shattered Soldier, Rygar, and Maximo. Then found quite a few other great games for it. So basically a minimum of three games that I'd like to play per console purchse.

I know there aren't many racing fans among you, but Gran Turismo did the trick for me .

yes but the space time continum would collapse in on itself due to the pure awesomeness of this game (which would probably contain chuck norris)

I bought a Dreamcast after watching Soul Calibur for 20 minutes.

I bought an Xbox after playing Halo co-op with a friend (ended up being one of only 3 games on the system worth owning).

So the answer is 'yes' for me.

I bought my first PS1 (my first console too) for the original Formula One back in '96. I then bought a PS2 when it came out for the F1 series, Gran Turismo and MGS2 which were all PS2 exclusives.

When the PS2 died last year I replaced it with a PS3, partly because I guess whether or not I care to admit it I have become a Sony 'fanboy', but also because of GT5 & MGS4.

So yeah, not only WILL there be console-selling games, they have in fact been around for pretty much as long as there have been consoles!

Remember Halo? That really good game that everyone thinks they're cool for hating now? Yeah, it pretty much single-handedly kept the Xbox alive long enough to get other good games on it. If not for Halo, Xbox most likely would not have survived. I'd call that a console-selling title.

I bought a 360 for Resident Evil 5 and Tales of Vesperia. One of them ended up exclusive... kinda, since the PS3 version's only for Japan.

I think people don't quite get the real question. The scenario is the following: You already own one new console. Could there ever be a game on the other console that you would buy it for without even thinking about the other exclusives released on that particular console?

Well, I doubt it... if we're talking about full price here. 3-4 years later, used, maybe - but I can only talk for myself and buying a complete console and afterwards owning only one single game sounds outrageous.
