When I was first told the story of my parents' lives, I was awestruck. They are very cool. Not hip, but seriously bad-ass, great people, who will be sorely missed by many, many others when they pass away. Not just family, but pretty much everyone whose lives they have touched.
Mum's had dinner with Steve Jobbs, Bill Gates, a few rock stars, a couple of politicians, and a few other famous people. She seems to have been to every country on Earth. She's fiendishly clever and practical, as is my dad.
Dad's just lead an incredibly interesting and successful life- born in the Indian Ocean as the son of a master mariner back when photos were still black and white and food was still a little rationed. He's seen a lot, and, crucially, learnt from it.
Not just for their successes in the business world, but what they've done and are still doing for the lives of so many people. I want to be just like them when I'm older- witty, intelligent, pragmatic, selfless, empathetic, wise.
I admire them greatly, even if they do piss me off sometimes. Mum is always singing and making unfunny comments, and dad is OCD to an annoying degree. They are both frustratingly mothering and generally annoy me.
Everyone who meets them seems to agree- they're a pretty awesome pair.
