I like fast. Fast means you can hit and be gone before they know what hit them. Fast is taking a jab, rolling to the side, stepping behind them and then hacking the backs of their knees.

If you're careful with speed & agility, usually associated with fragility, you can dance around a heavier, harder hitting opponent all day.

Fast attacks. Usually the DPS evens out, so it's almost never "weak". Fast attacks mean that you have more chances to stagger your opponent and less chances at leaving an open window. It also allows you to be more mobile. Since attack time is shorter, you have more chance to get out of a sticky situation instead of being unable to move because you're stuck in an attack animation. In games where you can break your attack animation/combo to move then quickness allows you to get more hits in before you have to pull out to evade.

The fast kind as from my experiences I've encounter more slower but powerful type so by being faster is more of an advantage.

Well you can't brag about oneshotting the squishies when you go Attack Speed... Anyway, everyone knows that a pure Attack Speed build is only good on Teemo.

Remember kids, every time a Teemo dies an angel gets it's wings. However every time a Teemo gets away on 1 HP an angel gets thrown out of Heaven in disgust. Not in the Morgana "I have only gotten stronger" type of way either.

In stuff like fighting games I like the super fast person who is all rushdowny and awesome. It's why X-23 is a staple of my UMVC3 teams. That quarter circle light charge move is awesome. It covers 3/4 of the screen and is inexplicably safe on block even though it looks as unsafe as possible.

Whereas in shooters I like the ones that do stupid damage but are slower. You know that one sniper in the ME games? The one that has like 11 bullets in a clip and fires really fast? Fuck that noise, imma gonna stuck with the Mantis until I get my hands on a Widow. Then the real fun begins...

You can't block them all.

Slow attacks may be nice but a well timed block fucks you up.

Pff, my attackz may be slow but zey crush yu and yur puny shield {Read in thick russian accent for added effect}

On topic:
One of my favourite games of all time is Onimusha Dawn of Dreams, in which I get to choose between fast and agile and strong and slow-ish-er characters and really, in that game I enjoy both.
And since then, I always enjoyed both.
In Monster Hunter, I use hammers and GS as well as Longswords and Dual Swords.
The only thing that matters to me is what I want to do at that moment.

I prefer the two handed mace, just like the powerful hits I can pull off, rather have a strong one hit then a bunch of fast weak small hits.

Fast attacks are much more efficient in my opinion. If you a wuss (like me) you can just poke an enemy and then jump away while they're trying to swing around their huge-ass greatswords...

Really matters on the game.

In first person shooters, I tend to go with slow and powerful, usually with high power semi-autos when possible, as I trust my ability to aim.

With fighting games, I go with fast and weak because usually I can stun-lock the slower guys and win that way. It fits well with my "know only 3 combos and nothing else" strategy. :p

Dota2, fast attacks with buff placers (stun, freeze, lightning, lifesteal) better than slow ones that just damage.

Fast and weak. You can get in more attacks and slow ones get interrupted. With fast ones you're almost always guaranteed a hit.
In fighting games, I usually play faster characters too. I can get high combos and stun-lock them.

Speed . Always speed . If you get interrupted or miss it doesn't matter as much . Plus i feels like i'm getting shit done faster . In WoW i had my warrior dual wield daggers just for the lol's , it was pretty cool , people laughed , but i was still onthe top of my dps meter . Why the hell can't other classes put poison on daggers? Where the sense in that?
Maybe at lower levels but try do that at end game and you will surely be laughed out of town :p

You can't hit me if I see your attack coming from half a mile away and just dodge out of the way :p

Dark Souls has some interesting heavy weapons where it's hard to judge the timing. There's a certain type of pike that while the 1st swing is easy to dodge the 2nd swing will catch out anybody who isn't intimate with it's timing

It all depends on the game. In Borderlands I prefer to play as a Sniper. I got range and attack power, but little speed.

In Super Smash. Bros I like both, but mostly I like being in the middle.

I guess what I really prefer is stealth. Kill without being noticed then move on while whistling a jolly tune.

If it's an MMO, I don't really care as much as long as I'm putting the numbers out. However, if it's a caster, I'd rather cast fast and have less of a chance to be interrupted. In action games, I also often find a speedy character more effective because of their ability to adapt to a changing situation and get out of a skirmish quick if something bad is about to happen. In Super Smash Bros Brawl, I play Toon Link over Link for the exact reason that Toon Link is so much more mobile.

I'm big on Fire Emblem, and if you aren't one-shotting everything, you always want to have just enough speed to get in two attacks. There are very few instances when two weaker attacks are worth less than one big hit.

As far as shooting games go, stopping power is more important, so you really need some balance of power, accuracy, and speed. There's no real point in favouring a fast-reloading pistol over most rifles and shotguns, though I feel modern games have screwed everything up by making knifes the most powerful common weapons just because of difficulty of execution. But ultimately: Explosions > all.

Exactly this.

Also, some games you can completely break by repeatedly interrupting the enemy's attack until they fall over with thousands of tiny holes in their torso. (I see no reason to fight fair against the AI.)

Anyway, attack is the best form of defence, and all that jazz.
