Generally, I prefer death metal when it's mixed with another music genre. For example, two of my favorite bands, Opeth and Cynic, are respectively death metal plus prog metal and death metal plus prog and jazz.
My thoughts on Varg...Furburt said:I know they're different, its just the closest thing I actually have to Death Metal that I listen to, so I put it down here.Hiphophippo said:Not to be "that guy" but burzum is black metal. This only matters to us metal heads so deep in the sub genre game that we bleed distortion.See above.Spitfire175 said:I don't give shit what Varg thinks or has done, I love the music, I've got everything Burzum has released. It's just that black metal and death metal are a bit like Ireland and the UK. People treat them the same because they seem similar, while they're in fact vastly different. I thought you were trolling by mentioning black metal in a death metal thread.
Also, while I do find it a bit unsettling to listen to considering he killed his guitarist, burned down some churches and almost bombed an anarchists society in the name of Fascism, I listen to it anyway, because
A. he's fucking brilliant musically
B.Hes got a kick ass beard

Lol? You DO know not all Death metal songs are about violence, right?McNinja said:No I don't like Death metal. I like lyrics that actually have some kind of meaning rather than violence.

haha yeah, I guess I generalized it a bit. I meant I just tend to not like songs about violence in general, be they Death Metal or Ska or Rock.
I wasn't referring to any particular genre really. I just think some are too particular ( like I've heard of cypergrind being used for Agoraphobic Nosebleed). I've listened to some pornogrind (Lividity for the most part) and... it's sick. But I like it.Violence said:You aren't referring to pornogrind by any chance? Cause I love it, hahaha.Jharry5 said:But I do think some people take the subgenre thing way too seriously...
Goregrind makes we want to rip out someone's throat. It's THAT good.
I consider these to be under the blanket of death metal, because it's just like death metal except it sounds like it was recorded inside a garbage can. Bands like Cannibal Corpse, Napalm Death, Deicide, and Cattle Decapitation got me into it originally (after Slipknot of course lulz) and since then I've been lucky to see Cephalic Carnage and Black Dahlia Murder. Though truth be told, I'd rather have Circle of Dead Children over Children of Bodom, anyday. Does anyone here remember Gorerotted? They were awesome.
