Ok, two points. First, the no offline support is just a different take on DRM that I honestly think is more palatable. Instead of saying it can only be installed on X computers, you can play on infinite computers, fully transfer all characters, at the cost of signing in with your user name.

...

So, if you are boycotting a game for strictly moral principles, make sure the designers are actually doing something wrong.
Always online for single player and DRM are wrong. Blizzard will probably lose a lot more money by making it online only than they would from pirates. Inconveniencing a paying customer is never the right move. Most of the time, my internet is great. But occasionally I'll lose my internet connection and it is always invariably on a friday afternoon with a federal holiday on monday so my internet won't be back up for DAYS. You know what I like to do when I don't have the internet to entertain me? I like to play games. This isn't a moral principle, it's an "I want to be able to play my game" principle. Also, the lack of mod support is a big deal, because sometimes I just like to get some fun mods and play some LAN games with friends.

You know what game has all of those options? Torchlight 2. Runic games has decided not to be a dick to me, so I'm going to be using my money to buy from them instead of Blizzard, and many of my friends are doing the same.

No offline play?

I may have a constant connection but that doesn't make me a happy gamer.

Nah, I was looking forward to this game when it was looking like a simple dungeon crawler with some possibility of single player (however minimal). Now it just looks like a less interesting version of WoW.

..then again, I guess Diablo 2 was like that too. Maybe this subgenre doesn't appeal to me anymore.

[sub]Then there's the issue of always-on DRM. And by "the issue of always-on DRM" I mean fuck always-on DRM. It's ridiculous.[/sub]

I already preordered the Collector's Edition so yes,I'm gonna get it.

At first I was a bit mad about the changes with the real auction house, but the "always online" mode doesn't bother me at all since I play MMO's daily and I have a constant internet connection.

All this ruckus about the auction house really shouldn't really matter.I think hardcore players will still beat the ones that ask their parents for money to buy powerful equipment.

I do wonder how many people will be interested in the PvP arena rather than teaming up with their friends and dungeon crawling together through nightmare mode(for example).

As long as I can play the game on my own without having to deal with other people unless I want to I don't really care about all this other shit that seems to be pissing people off so much.

So you have to have an always on internet connection? How many of the people bitching about this issue have Steam installed and play games on it regularly?

So they're having auction houses where people can buy and sell equipment and Blizzard takes a nominal flat fee from each transaction. Blizzard says they aren't going be directly selling equipment and no one's forcing you to use this feature so why are you bitching again?

I may or may not being picking this up on release day but I'll get it eventually because I've enjoyed the hell out of the other Diablo games. I'll also be getting Torchlight II and Grim Dawn if it ever comes out.

Yes, Blizzard has yet to fail me on a game and I don't think this is going to be an exception.

Plus the people who are refusing to buy the game seem to be the stuck-up snobs that the game will probably be better off without anyway.
People who cant play the game because of poor internet connctions are stuck up snobs?
Sorry but that sounds pretty stupid to me
I think you missed the point here. They aren't saying people who can't play because they have bad connections, they're talking about people who have good connections, but refuse to buy the game for some goofy reason.

OT: I honestly don't have a problem with these developments. They've been working toward full online play for a while (particularly through the ongoing success smash that is World of Warcraft and more recently with how Starcraft II is constantly linked to your battle.net account), and the two different auction houses should be interesting (and, if nothing else, might give poor college students like me a chance to make a little spending money doing something I enjoy).

I have a good connection, but I'm still not going to buy the game unless it has a proper single player that doesn't require internet, since I've been stuck away from home without internet several times.

I don't play the Diablo games, or Borderlands, for its multiplayer. It's nice to play with friends, but my main focus is the singleplayer story, which should not *require* internet. Period.

Where is the "Yes" option?

Honestly, I have never understood the complaint about always on internet requirements, it's more likely than not at this stage, no? sure it sucks that you can't really take it on a business trip or whatever but aren't there better, single player games for that?

About the auction house...well, sure it's not needed, I won't be using it as getting your own loot is more satisfying, but if there are people who care enough to spend real money on it, then i'd rather the money go to Blizzard and the players than people using the suspicious sites for it where they could have details stolen etc as they have done with D2.
Finally someone with the same answer as me xD. Internet high five lol.

But yeah, the auction house thing never bothered me at all for the reason listed above, I would rather farm the gear or the gold to buy said gear off the gold auction house myself, the cash one is just there for people who want to use it, and all in all is an absolute good.

Ynow, aside from all the bile its bringing out of people, but the opinion of people on the interwebz is rarely a good representation of somethings actual value.

As for the internet thing, I don't see myself playing a diablo game alone much anyways, and when I do, there's always private matches, having to have an internet access isn't really a factor since the only time I spend on my computer without internet is spent trying to get the internet back on.

Edit: But yeah just incase it's not implied, I am buying the game on day one, even if my laptop ends up not being able to run the damn thing xD.

Ya I'll buy it when it's $20 or less, dungeon crawlers really aren't my thing anymore but when in the bargain bin it's good for a laugh.

Diablo 2 was alright, i wasnt a huge fan but i enjoyed it, however after the recent news i will not get it at all

but do you know whats a real shame, if this game flops and blizzard lose money, people will get fired, however the people in the senior positions that surgested this will keep their jobs

If we accept this, soon all games will be on cloud and we won't own any games we buy! They already got away with selling us a license instead of the actual product. We need to stop this before it's too late.
You already own very, very, very few games that you buy. As you said you own a license to play it that can be revoked at any time for any reason. This includes retail games.

And don't be naive. Have you seen how much the internet has taken over just in the last few years? Everything will be on "the cloud" within your life time. You sound like an old man raging against the system because 8 track tapes are ridiculous because they make you buy all your music again. There was nothing wrong with record players!
Cloud isn't necessarily a bad thing. But game companies are full of greedy bastards. That's the problem. When those guys take over and force you to play on cloud you will be paying them and you won't own nothing in return. I have absolutely no issues with Valve's Steam because they treat their customers with respect. Others don't. Just look at Activision, EA and Ubisoft. Face it. Gaming used to be so much better in the past. I'm not a nostalgic person, I'm being realistic here. Just look at all the DLC's and exclusive content for some and not others, idiotic DRM, content that is on the disc but it's locked etc. The only reason companies such as EA and Activision are getting away with this is because there is still no law against it. There is still no law against selling a faulty game. If there was, Obsidian would not release a game in a million years. And they shouldn't!

I really feel like you're just being alarmist here. The industry, like almost every other, is going through growing pains trying to figure out how to best deal with the internet's prevalence. Things will iron themselves out, man. Chin up. Just play the games and enjoy yourself.

Let's see now. No tactics or thinking involved. Weak action made worse with a bad control scheme. Strictly lineair plot, having no choice. Tells a lame story about a christian hell, but without any of the other religious context.

All the game has in it's favour is cute graphics, competent music+sound fx and a bugfree experience. That worked great for D2 sales before, but not with me.
I like my games to be more than just a technically proficient basket.

No, because my shit computer probably won't run it. I might get it in 2-3 years, once I get a real job and have money for a real computer...

The whining about these issues is incredible.

The majority of Diablo 2 players played on Battle.net, so there was a default 'always-on' internet requirement for most.
You can play by yourself online if you're desperate to play alone.
Auction Houses will exist, whether they are conveniently controlled by Blizzard or not.
It is not 'pay to win' because it is not a game you 'win' - it is an eternal grindfest.
I'm trying Diablo 2 mods (Median XL Omega, Eastern Sun 3.0), and while interesting, they are unbalanced.
Holy mother of god.... another human being that ACTUALLY GETS IT! I don't believe it! Another member of the minority who is willing to think straight through the controversy and emotions! Props good sir, props. I've said almost the exact same things in every D3 thread, yet everyone is too busy whining to actually GET those points. It's refreshing to see someone with a similar train of thought as myself.

I have problems with the AH and such, but you put it perfectly more or less: people are making a huge deal over this when they probably shouldn't.
Ta. It's difficult to distract people when they're busy being outraged.

This will wear off. The game will be excellent. Most of the people who liked Diablo 2 will buy Diablo 3.

Trying to play 'Eastern Sun 3.0' - seems a touch less stupid than Median XL Omega.

Hope Torchlight 2 is good. It'll still lack that Blizzard 'je ne sais quoi'.

No. I will not support a money printer that takes away player control over the game. Especially since this money printer will find its way to more games if Diablo 3 is successful.

There's a minimum deposit to prevent the AH from being flooded with trash. Your argument is invalid. Plus you can MAKE MONEY FOR PLAYING A VIDEO GAME. This is a dream come true if you decide to take it seriously. It's a stock market, but you get to kill hellspawns between meetings. Seriously, nerd heaven.
Erm, why?
The amount that it is thought to be is only 10-20% so the player still sees the majority return.

But I do agree it is a dream come true. I get to make money by sitting on my fat arse killing things as fast as possible. Thank you Blizz!

I wouldn't go as far to say "I'm boycotting it", but, the little interest I had in the first place has been snuffed due to the various announcements.
